Abstract: | Three experiments designed to test the effect of height of cutting of lucerne on subsequent yield are described and the results discussed. Extremely low cutting, at ground level, can cause the death of individual lucerne plants, but if such extreme cutting is avoided there is no evidence to show any advantage in leaving a long stubble. In fact, in a sward, the lower the cutting the greater is the yield to be expected. |
