Virus Infection and Cell Apoptosis

Cell Apoptosis is an important process in the development, homeostasis and pathology of organisms. It is a cell suicidal process coded by gene to ablate effete, damaged and needless cells. Apoptosis can be used as an effective defense mechanism against harmful agents by the host cells. Virus-induced cells apoptosis is an important and complex aspect for virus infection. Knowledge of these viral mechanisms provoked not only means to develop new antiviral agents but also window on critical molecular events in cells. In addition, there is a growing awareness that virus and viral products may be of therapeutic benefit in treatment of human disease.
