Abstract: | In attempts to develop more rapid tests for phytotoxicity before the appearance of visual symptoms, the levels of pyruvic and a-oxo-glutaric acids were determined in leaves of dwarf bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) before and after treatment with a toxicant (lime sulphur). Efforts were also directed towards demonstrating the recovery of the initial photosynthetic processes by exposing plants to radio-active labelled carbon dioxide at various intervals after treatment and then measuring the quantities of radioactivity incorporated into the two acids. |
