Abstract:Flakes from masson pine and slivers, granular particles from broad-leaved trees were aggregated and combined with cement to form test boards. The ratios of cement to wood varied from 3.0 to 1.5 at 0.5 decrement on a dry weight basis. In addition, two types of cement, strength of 425 and 525, were employed to assess if a difference in properties between them. Results indicated that the bending strength increased with raise the ratio of cement to wood. A cement/wood ratio of 2.5 was of optimum bending strength and modulus of elasticity for cement bonded with flake board. Wood-cement panels made from flake, sliver and particle exhibited high dimensional stability when soaked it in water 24 hours. The influence of cement type on board mechanical property was significant while on dimensional stability significance was not quite clear. Flakes appeared to have some advantages over wood slivers and particles.
