| Abstract: | A simple and effective procedure for estimating soil phospholipids is described. The method uses Soxhlet extraction with (i) ethanol plus benzene (1:4 by volume) followed by (ii) methanol plus chloroform (1:1 by volume). The method compared favourably with the standard procedure of Hance and Anderson (1963) with the advantage that no acid pre-treatment of the soil was required. |
