Abstract: | Spring-born calves were reared in 1956 and 1957 on (a) a multiple-suckling system, (b) bucket-feeding indoors and (c) bucket-feeding at pasture. Milk substitute was offered in similar quantities to (b) and (c); (a) and (b) received hay and concentrates; (c) received no concentrates but hay was offered in 1956. The average daily live-weight gains (lb.) in 1956 were 1·63, 1·30 and 1·45; in 1957 1·70, 1·50 and 1·55, respectively. The importance of grass of good quality, free from parasitic infestation, is discussed. |
