Abstract:To explore the reproductive competition between Frankliniella occidentalis and Megaluro-thrips usitatus by mixing different numbers of female and male adults of the two thrips, the changes of their fecundity interfered by each other were studied under both parthenogenesis and bisexual reproduc-tion using leaf disc test. The daily and total fecundity of M. usitatus under parthenogenesis significantly decreased under the interference of one female adult of F. occidentalis from 8.8 eggs and 61.6 eggs to 7.5 eggs and 52.4 eggs, respectively. However, adding one male adult of F. occidentalis had no influ-ence on the fecundity of M. usitatus under parthenogenesis. The daily and total fecundity of M. usitatus under bisexual reproduction significantly decreased under the interference of one female adult of F. occi-dentalis from 6.6 eggs and 46.2 eggs to 5.2 eggs and 36.6 eggs, respectively. The fecundity of M. usita-tus under bisexual reproduction also significantly decreased under the interference of one male adult of F. occidentalis from 6.6 eggs and 46.2 eggs to 5.9 eggs and 41.4 eggs, respectively. The female adults of F. occidentalis had a stronger inhibitive effect on the fecundity of M. usitatus than male adults under the two reproductive modes. The fecundity of F. occidentalis under parthenogenesis significantly decreased under the interference of one female or male adult of M. usitatus. The daily fecundity decreased from 6.8 eggs to 6.1 eggs and 6.1 eggs, respectively. The total fecundity decreased from 47.4 eggs to 43.0 eggs and 42.6 eggs, respectively. The daily and total fecundity of F. occidentalis under bisexual repro-duction also significantly decreased under the interference of one female adult of M. usitatus from 6.1 eggs and 43.0 eggs to 4.3 eggs and 30.0 eggs, respectively. However, the fecundity of F. occidentalis un-der bisexual reproduction was not significantly decreased before two male adults of M. usitatus were added. The female adults of M. usitatus had a stronger inhibitive effect on the fecundity of F. occidenta-lis than male adults under the two reproductive modes. The daily and total fecundity of M. usitatus un-der the two reproductive modes were higher than those of F. occidentalis, no matter whether the interfer-ence existed or not. The results indicated that M. usitatus had a dominant position in the reproductive competition with F. occidentalis due to its higher fecundity.
