| Abstract: | Abstract. The first outbreak of bacterial kidney disease in farmed salmonids in Scotland was recorded in 1976, The number of individual outbreaks has now risen to at least 37. Disease outbreaks are seasonal, reaching a peak during May. In many cases infection has spread following the movement of juvenile fish. Mortalities are variable; in extreme cases 20% per annum occurs. Both gross signs and mortalities are reduced in fish reared in sea water. |
