STUDIES ON THE IN VITRO METHOD OF ESTIMATING THE METABOLIC ENERGY VALUES OF CHICKEN FEEDSTUFFS

20 diets of different energy levels but with similar P/E ratios were prepared according to the concept of "ideal protein" . Regression equations for estimating the ME values were established based on these diets. Additional 18 broiler diets of completely different compositions were used for testing the validity of these equations. Furthermore, 35 different broiler diets commonly used in Guangtong Province were also used for the in vitro tests in Guangzhou city. Strong correlations existed between the in vitro DE/DM digestibility and the in vivo AME, the correlation coefficients being 0.990 and 0.938, respectively, both with a residual standard deviation of 0.05 Meal/kg.These results showed that the in vitro method using pepsin-porcine small intestinal fluid for estimating chicken mixed feeds was quite reliable. But, as yet, no satisfactory result has been obtained with single ingredient, except wheat bran, wheat and rice.
