Abstract:Forty accessions of 33 kindred species of common wheat(Triticum aestivum L.)were inoculated with composite cultures AR,411,BM,and 121 of Erysiphe graminis f.sp.tritici, mixed races of Puccinia striformis and P.recondita f.sp.tritici.Of the accessions studied 27.5%,92.5% and 90% were identified as immune or highly resistant to powdery mildew (E.graminis f.sp.tritici),yellow rust(Puccinia striiformis)and leaf rust(P.recondita f.sp. tritici),respectively.Seven accessions of six species(Agropyron pectinatum,Elymus tangutorum,Elytrigia repens subsp.elongti formis,Eremopyrum triticeum,Roegneria kamoji and Secale cereale(weed type))proved to be highly resistant to all the three diseases.It is assumed that plant germplasms with broader spectrum of disease resistance may be screened by the adoption of strains or races carrying more virulence genes for identifying powdery mildew resistance.
