Abstract: | Depressions that are subjected to overmoistening in the spring and to heavy rains in the summer are widespread on the Russian Plain, including arable lands. Excessive moistening results in the development of gley features throughout the soil profile. These soils differ from the adjacent slightly gleyed soils by their lower thickness of the humus horizon and the eluvial layer, their lower contents of humus and adsorbed bases, and their higher contents of clay and sesquioxides in the deeper soil layers. |
