Performance Evaluation of the ADS 1000 Ventilator Using a Lung Model

A laboratory evaluation was performed to evaluate the performance characteristics of a new veterinary ventilator. The ventilator studied was configured according to manufacturer's directions and attached to a test lung via a pneumotachograph and differential pressure transducer interfaced to a pulmonary mechanics analyzer system. Constant resistance (R=10 cm H₂O/L/sec) and compliance (C=3 ml/cm H₂O) factors were maintained for all trials. The ventilator operated at the manufacturer's preprogrammed parameters. In the first trial, body weight was the only variable. In the second trial, an endotracheal tube was placed in series between the ventilator's breathing circuit and the pneumotachograph. Body weights from 1–20 kgs were evaluated. Mean values for respiratory rate (RR), minute ventilation (VE), inspiratory time (Ti), peak inspiratory pressure (PIP), and peak inspiratory flow (Fpki) displayed on the ventilator control panel; tidal volume (VT), calculated from the displayed minute volume, and identical parameters measured by the pulmonary mechanics system at each body weight, were compared using a two factor analysis of variance. Significant differences (P< 0.05) were found between mean displayed and measured values for RR, PIP, and Fpki.

The immune response to anesthesia: Part 1

ObjectiveTo review the immune response to anesthesia including mechanical ventilation, inhaled anesthetic gases, and injectable anesthetics and sedatives.Study designReview.Methods and databasesMultiple literature searches were performed using PubMed and Google Scholar from spring 2012 through fall 2013. Relevant anesthetic and immune terms were used to search databases without year published or species constraints. The online database for Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia and the Journal of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care were searched by issue starting in 2000 for relevant articles.ConclusionRecent research data indicate that commonly used volatile anesthetic agents, such as isoflurane and sevoflurane, may have a protective effect on vital organs. With the lung as the target organ, protection using an appropriate anesthetic protocol may be possible during direct pulmonary insults, including mechanical ventilation, and during systemic disease processes, such as endotoxemia, generalized sepsis, and ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Cavern type airflow control technology of mine

Taking a coconut shell powder activated carbon (PAC) as the carrier and butyl acetate titanate with ethanol as raw materials, TiO2/AC(activated carbon) photocatalyst was prepared through sol-gel and impregnation method, and batch experiments were carried out to investigate its performances of removing Carbamazepine from artificial water. The results indicate that TiO2/AC has a better removal of carbamazepine than powder TiO2 and PAC. In the same condition, the removal of carbamazepine in TiO2/AC system is 1.7 times than that in TiO2. When the initial concentration of Carbamazepine is 10 mg/L, and the dosage of TiO2/AC is 500 mg/L, in which the load capacity of TiO2 is 11.2%, the removal rate reaches at 91.5% while the PH is 1.0. The reaction of photocatalytic degradation process can be accorded with two-step dynamics kinetics with different concentrations. The constant of secondary reaction is inversely proportional to concentration. Using Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) model, it concludes that the apparent adsorption equilibrium constant Ka is 9.215×10 3 L/mol, and the surface reaction rate constant Kr is 3.678×10 -6 mol/(L·min). Thus, microwave irradiation is the best way for catalyst regeneration.     

温室周围气流运动的有限元法模拟分析

以有限元法分析流体力学问题为基础,运用ANSYS 9．0软件模拟了温室周围空气流的运动情况, 并分析了利用风压进行通风换气时比较实用的开窗方式。模拟结果显示:采用天窗与侧窗组合通风的效果优于仅利用侧窗通风。最后将二维模拟温室周围气流运动的方法进一步推广到三维模拟中,模拟了温室周围气流的运动情况。结果表明,下风向风速在距离温室0-3 m处为3．260 4-2．905 5 m／s,在3-12 m处为2．888 8-2．845 7 m／s;上风向风速在距离温室0-4．2 m处为3．120 5-2．698 9 m／s,在4．2-12 m处为2．698 9-2．946 m／s。
