The heparin antagonist protamine inhibits bone resorption. In the present study protamine was given i.v. at a dose of 10 mg/kg to goats and sheep in various stages of pregnancy and lactation. It is known that bone resorption increases as pregnancy progresses. In sheep maximum in bone resportion is reached at early lactation. The hypocalcemic response to protamine followed a similar course. The slightest decrease in serum calcium was obtained during early pregnancy and the greatest during late pregnancy and early lactation. Protamine increased serum inorganic phosphorus. The increase was most pronounced during early pregnancy. Protamine did not significantly change serum magnesium.Five lactating ewes were given 25000 i.u./kg of vitamin D3. Serum calcium increased and the hypocalcemic response to protamine was greater after vitamin D3 administration than before.The results showed that the hypocalcemic response to protamine can be used as an indicator of the role of bone resorption in calcium homeostasis in various physiological situations. 相似文献

The association between blood calcium levels and electrocardiographic variables was
compared in 137 normal parturient and 36 peripartum recumbent Holstein cows to determine
whether hypocalcemia in peripartum dairy cows can be rapidly diagnosed using
electrocardiograph. Inverse of STc (ST peak interval/SS interval0.5) and blood
ionized calcium or serum calcium concentrations were strongly correlated, and both
correlation coefficients were 0.81 (P<0.001). The 95% prediction
interval indicated that cows with STc >0.385 ± 0.001 sec are very likely to be
hypocalcemic (blood ionized or serum calcium concentrations of <0.9
mmol/l or <7.5 mg/dl, respectively). These findings
indicate that hypocalcemia in parturient cows can be non-invasively estimated using the

Objective – To determine the incidence rate and prognostic significance of ionized hypocalcemia (iHCa) among septic dogs. Design – Retrospective study Setting – Veterinary teaching hospital Animals – Fifty‐eight septic dogs that were presented to Cornell University Hospital for Animals between January 2006 and December 2007. Procedure – Cases were diagnosed with sepsis if they exhibited 2 or more criteria of the systemic inflammatory response syndrome with a concurrent documented infectious focus. Cases were excluded if diagnosed with a concurrent illness reportedly associated with calcium derangements. Lowest, mean, and highest blood ionized calcium concentrations were recorded and statistically analyzed for an association with morbidity, as measured by duration of hospitalization and number of blood product transfusions, and outcome. In addition, the incidence rate of iHCa was recorded. Results – Of the 58 cases included in this study, iHCa was documented in 4 of 6 (67%) patients that died, 5 of 19 (26%) euthanized patients and 5 of 33 (15%) patients that survived to discharge, with an overall incidence of 24%. Dogs that died during hospitalization had more severe iHCa than patients that were discharged or euthanized as well as significantly lower mean ionized calcium concentrations than patients who were discharged. Severity of iHCa was also associated with a longer duration of hospitalization. The highest ionized calcium concentration was not associated with outcome. Conclusion and Clinical Relevance – This study is the first to document the incidence of iHCa among septic dogs. Because both low mean ionized calcium and the lowest documented ionized calcium concentration are associated with poor outcome, it is likely that both the severity and duration of hypocalcemia are important in these patients. Further prospective studies investigating the prognostic significance, etiology and treatment of iHCa among septic veterinary patients are needed to better understand its role in sepsis. 相似文献

为了比较产后一段时期内酮病奶牛与健康奶牛血液生化指标的差异,为奶牛酮病的防控及兽医临床诊治提供理论依据。本研究选取吴忠市某集约化奶牛场待产奶牛共30头进行为期3周的血液生化指标监测,根据β-羟丁酸(BHBA)的浓度将奶牛分为酮病组和对照组并进行比较研究。结果显示,酮病组与对照组在生产当天(0 d)各项检测指标未出现显著性差异;酮病组奶牛β-羟丁酸浓度在产后7 d时较对照组极显著升高(P<0.01);天门冬氨酸氨基转移酶(AST)和总胆红素(T-bil)浓度在产后7 d和14 d时显著升高(P<0.05);血糖(Glu)浓度在产后7 d时显著降低(P<0.05),产后14 d时极显著降低(P<0.01);钙(Ca)、磷(P)浓度无显著性差异,但均低于正常参考值范围,出现低血钙、低血磷症。经分析发现,本场奶牛所患酮病为Ⅱ型酮病,酮病牛高发胎次为3~6胎,产后低血钙、低血磷、低血糖现象严重,同时奶牛酮病引发了机体肝脏功能损伤,影响母牛生产性能。 相似文献
