The aim of the experiment was to investigate the effects of cage floor and cage density on stress parameters of laying hens. A total of 162 brown laying hens (Hyline Brown), aged 34 weeks, were used in the experiment. Compact-type battery cages, with three floors, were used. Hens were allocated as one, three or five hens in each of 18 cages to obtain three different cage density groups of 1968, 656 and 393.8 cm2 floor area per hen, respectively. The same number of cages with different cage density were allocated to three different battery floors (first floor=top, second=middle, third=bottom) systematically. Values for body weight, mortality rate, egg weight, egg production, egg quality characteristics, egg yolk cholesterol content, the levels of blood plasma corticosterone, serum glucose, total cholesterol and triglycerides, the ratio of heterophils to lymphocytes (H-L ratio), antibody titers, claw length score, foot health score, plumage score and throat skin injuries were taken as indicators of stress. The values for egg weight (P<0.01) at the first floor were greater than the other floor levels. The group with five hens per cage had significantly lower mean estimates (P<0.01) than other groups with respects to body weight (P<0.001), egg production (P<0.001), egg weight (P<0.001) and plumage score (P<0.01), while significantly higher mean estimates for egg albumen index (P<0.01), Haugh unit (P<0.01), serum glucose (P<0.001), and H-L ratio (P<0.001). Serum cholesterol was higher in cages with one hen than that with five hens, whereas plasma corticosterone was lower. Antibody titers in cages with one hen was similar to that with three or five hens; however, those with three hens had higher titers than those with five hens. Values for egg breaking strength, yolk index, egg cholesterol content, and foot health score were not affected by cage density or floor. The increased microvascular permeability appears mainly in venule during inflammation, shock, and burns. Endothelial cells play an important role in venule permeability enhancement. There are two kinds of pathway for macromolecule extravasation. One is paracellular pathway and another is transcellular pathway, which are related to the formation of endothelial gap or transcellular openings seperately. AIM:To investigate the effect of lansoprazole on gastric ulceration in rats. METHODS:Using the gastric ulcer model induced by hemorrhagic shock, restraint water-immersion stress and pylorus-ligature, the protective effect of lansoprazole (iv) on gastric ulceration was observed. RESULTS:Pretreatment with lansoprazole (7.5-60 mg/kg) significantly inhibited the formation of gastric ulcer in the three models in a dose-dependent manner. The autiulcer efficacy of lansoprazole was similar to that of omeprazole in the equal dose, but stronger than that of omeprazole for ulcer induced by water-immersion stress.CONCLUSION:The intravenously administered lansoprazole inhibited formation of experimental gastric ulcer in rats. 相似文献

Cooling stored epididymal samples for several days allows facilities to transport and process genetic material post‐mortem. Improvements to this practice allow the preservation of sperm from domestic cats, which are the ideal study model for wild felids. However, the modifications in spermatic features and the oxidative profile are not fully understood in cats. This information is necessary for the development of biotechniques, such as new extenders for cryopreservation. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the spermatic and oxidative profile in samples from the epididymal cauda of domestic cats cooled at 5°C for 24, 48 and 72 hr. Spermatozoa were collected from the epididymis cauda. Evaluations consisted of computer‐assisted sperm analysis (CASA), plasma membrane integrity (eosin/nigrosin), acrosome integrity (fast green/rose bengal), sperm morphology, sperm DNA integrity (toluidine blue), mitochondrial activity (3′3 diaminobenzidine), activity of the antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and superoxide dismutase (SOD), measurement of lipid peroxidation (TBARS) and protein oxidation. A decrease in sperm motility parameters was observed after 72 hr of cooling (i.e. total and progressive) with a higher percentage of minor (37.7 ± 6.3%) and total defects (53.4 ± 6.3%). Additionally, a decrease in high mitochondrial activity (Class I: 16.6 ± 2.2%) occurred after 72 hr. The decrease in motility rates after a long cooling time probably was caused by the increase in sperm abnormalities. A long cooling time causes cold shock and mitochondrial exhaustion, but there was no observed change with the oxidative stress condition. Therefore, cat epididymal sperm stored at 5°C appear to maintain a high quality for up to 48 hr of cooling time. 相似文献

AIM To investigate the expression of Wnt1 and LGR5 in gastric mucosa with stress ulcer after traumatic brain injury (TBI) in rats, and to study the relationship between Wnt1/LGR5 expression and stress ulcer after TBI. METHODS Healthy 7-week-old male SD rats (n =30) were randomly divided into 3 groups: sham operation (sham) group, mild TBI (mTBI) group, and severe TBI (sTBI) group. The mTBI and sTBI were induced by electronic cortical contusion impactor. Neurological severity score (NSS) was calculated 24 and 48 h after modeling. Mucosal blood flow in gastric fundus, greater curvature, pylorus and cardia of anesthetized rats 48 h after injury was measured by Doppler flowmeter. All rats were sacrificed, and their gastric tissues were harvested after 48 h and then stained with hematoxylin and eosin. The protein expression of Wnt1 and LGR5 was analyzed by Western blot and immunohistochemistry. RESULTS Compared with sham group, the NSS in mTBI group and sTBI group was significantly increased (P <0.01). Compared with sham group, the gastric mucosal blood flow of the rats after TBI was significantly decreased (P <0.01), and the decrease in sTBI group was more significant than that in mTBI group (P <0.05). The protein expression of Wnt1 and LGR5 in mTBI group was significantly higher than that in sham group (P <0.05), and that in sTBI group was significantly higher than that in mTBI group (P <0.05). Normal glandular gastric tissue was observed, and no abnormal change was found in sham group, while the infiltration of inflammatory cells in gastric lamina propria, mucosa and submucosa was obvious in mTBI group and sTBI group. CONCLUSION Traumatic brain injury activates Wnt1 and LGR5 expression to induce inflammatory changes in gastric mucosa, and then induces stress ulcer. This results provides experimental basis for the pathogenesis and treatment of stress ulcer after trauma. 相似文献
