To clarify the pathogenicity of Japanese type 1 porcine reproductive and respiratory
syndrome virus (PRRSV) isolate in experimentally infected pigs, we evaluated clinical
signs and monitored viremia for 21 days post-inoculation (dpi). Lungs were mottled, tanned
and reddish in appearance; had lesions predominantly in the cranial, middle and accessory
lobes; and failed to collapse at 10 dpi. Although microscopic lesions of lungs were
reproduced using the Japanese emerging type 1 PRRSV isolate under experimental conditions,
no significant differences were noted between the challenge and control groups regarding
mean rectal temperature and daily weight gain. These results provide useful insights into
the limited pathogenicity of single infection with the Japanese type 1 PRRSV isolate in
piglets, which differ from findings in reported field cases. 相似文献

Effects of various drugs including pesticides on the growth and respiration of cultured cells were evaluated comparatively using cell lines derived from mosquito ovary and subcutaneous mouse tissues. The concentration producing 50% inhibition of cell growth, I50 (M), was determined for each of 42 drugs. Inhibitors of respiration and nucleic acid and protein biosyntheses such as rotenone, piericidin A1, actinomycin D, and puromycin had very high pI50 values of approximately 8. Except for the compounds known to be uncouplers of oxidative phosphorylation, the drugs suppressed the respiration rate of the cultured cells to various degrees. The pI50 value (and the pEC150, 150% enhancement of the control, value for uncouplers) was determined for each compound. By examining the relation of pI50 (and pEC150) values between cell growth and respiration, the compounds could be classified into two groups according to their modes of inhibitory action against the cultured cells. One mode relates to the inhibition of energy synthesis and the other, perhaps, to interference with the biosynthesis of biomacromolecules. 相似文献

In a previous study, endophytic Streptomyces sp. R-5 isolated from a field-grown rhododendron was able to confer disease resistance on tissue-cultured seedlings of rhododendron when applied to medium surfaces in flasks. Here, the isolate was identified as Streptomyces galbus Frommer based on various physiological characteristics and analysis of the 16S rDNA sequence. Its major antimicro-bial metabolites were identified as actinomycin X2 and fungichromin by analyses using liquid chromatography/mass spectometry and nuclear magnetic resonance. 相似文献

To clarify the functional properties of potato pulp (PP), a waste product resulting from extraction of starch from potatoes,
we examined the effects of PP on cholesterol metabolism and cecal conditions in rats. Plasma total cholesterol (T-Chol) levels
were lower in rats fed a PP-supplemented diet for four weeks than in those fed a control diet. Cecal pH was lowered due to
an increase in the levels of cecal total short-chain fatty acids, especially butyrate, in the PP group compared to the control
group. Furthermore, animals fed with the PP-supplemented diet showed increased cecal ratios of Lactobacillus and Clostridia and decreased cecal ratios of Bacteroides and Gammaproteobacteria with slightly negative and positive correlations with plasma T-Chol levels, respectively. In conclusion,
ingestion of PP for four weeks is likely to improve both cecal conditions and cholesterol metabolism, suggesting that PP has
prebiotic effects. 相似文献

The meq gene was thought to be only detected in Marek's disease virus serotype 1 (MDV 1) including a very virulent strain, Md5, while L-meq, in which a 180-bp sequence is inserted into the meq open reading frame, is found in other strains of MDV 1, such as CVI 988/R6. However, both meq and L-meq were previously detected by PCR in chickens infected with MDV 1, suggesting that MDV 1 may consists of at least two subpopulations, one with meq, the other with L-meq. To further analyze these subpopulations, we analyzed the time course changes in distribution of these subpopulations among T cell subsets from chickens infected with MDV 1. Both meq and L-meq were detected in CD4+ and CD8+ T cells infected with strain Md5 or CVI 988/R6. The shift in MDV subpopulations from one displaying meq to the other displaying L-meq and/or the conversion from meq to L-meq occurred mainly in the CD8+ T cell subset from Md5-infected chickens. PCR products corresponding to L-meq rather than meq were frequently amplified from the CD8+ T cell subset from CVI 988/R 6 -infected chickens. These results suggest that a dominant subpopulation of MDV 1 changes depending on the T cell subsets, and that L-meq is dominantly present in the CD8+ T cells which play a role in the clearance of pathogenic agents. 相似文献

The present work describes myxozoans found in Cyphocharax nagelli (Characiformes: Curimatinae) commonly called "sagüiru" collected from Rio do Peixe Reservoir, S?o José do Rio Pardo, S?o Paulo, Brazil. From a total of 38 examined fish, 24 were infected with Henneguya garavelli n. sp. (63% prevalence) and two with Myxobolus peculiaris n. sp. (5% prevalence) in the gills. Spores were studied by staining and fresh spores were observed by differential interference contrast optics. Henneguya garavelli n. sp. differs from Henneguya iheringi, Henneguya occulta, Henneguya cesarpintoi, Henneguya santae, Henneguya pisciforme, Henneguya amazonica, Henneguya striolata, Henneguya leporinicola and Henneguya chydadea in spore length and from Henneguya travassosi, Henneguya adherens, Henneguya malabarica, Henneguya piaractus and also Henneguya chydadea in polar capsule length and tail length. Myxobolus peculiaris n. sp. was very different when compared to other species of Myxobolus in its morphology and the biggest size of spore body. The authors present tables with comparative measurements of Brazilian myxozoan parasites. 相似文献
