The influence of rootstock lateral buds on bench-chip-budded ‘Mirandy’ field roses

A positive correlation existed between the development of shoot and root systems of ‘Mirandy’ roses. Scions bench-chip-budded below rootstock lateral shoots were inhibited by apical dominance. Inhibition of scion apices was overcome by pruning the top of each rootstock above the graft. Rootstock axillary buds were necessary for adequate initial root-system establishment, but should be eliminated early in the growth cycle to maximize scion development of rose bushes and reduce field production time.     

Comparison of internal bond strength and compression shear strength of wood-based materials

The purpose of this study was to design a compression shear device for easy and fast measurement of the bonded shear strength of wood-based materials to replace the conventional method used to evaluate internal bond strength (IB). To assess the performance of this device, five differently sized specimens, included group I (dimension 5 × 1 cm), group II (5 × 2 cm), group III (5 × 3 cm), group IV (5 × 4 cm), and group V (5 × 5 cm) cut from commercial particleboard and medium-density fiberboard (MDF) (1.8 cm thick) were tested in compression shear. Only group V (5 × 5 cm) was prepared for the IB test. Results indicated that the compression shear strengths (CS) of particleboard and MDF, loaded in the horizontal or the diagonal direction, were greater than the IB, although a significant correlation existed between the two. This finding suggests that the IB of particleboard and MDF could be accurately estimated from the data collected by the CS test.Part of this report was presented at the Third Pacific Rim Bio-based Composites Symposium, Kyoto, December 2–5, 1996     

The cholinergic neuronal differentiation factor from heart cells is identical to leukemia inhibitory factor

A protein secreted by cultured rat heart cells can direct the choice of neurotransmitter phenotype made by cultured rat sympathetic neurons. Structural analysis and biological assays demonstrated that this protein is identical to a protein that regulates the growth and differentiation of embryonic stem cells and myeloid cells, and that stimulates bone remodeling and acute-phase protein synthesis in hepatocytes. This protein has been termed D factor, DIA, DIF, DRF, HSFIII, and LIF. Thus, this cytokine, like IL-6 and TGF beta, regulates growth and differentiation in the embryo and in the adult in many tissues, now including the nervous system.     

鲁梅克斯K-1杂交酸模替代大豆后对生长育肥猪的饲喂效果试验

选用平均体重25kg左右的生长育肥猪(长白×杜洛克×互助猪)30头,按性别搭配随机分为对照组和试验组,对照组只喂基础日粮,试验组喂以用19％鲁梅克斯K-1杂交酸模干品完全替代19％大豆后配以其它组分不变的对照组日粮,通过饲喂试验,结果表明,试验组日增重比对照组降低1.79％,个体增重差异不显著(P>0.05),试验组比对照组每kg增重饲料成本降低26.35％,每kg增重饲料成本差异显著(P<0.05)。
