Photographic subtraction was made of 38 canine portal venograms to remove the images of the overlying abdominal structures and enhance the radiographic contrast of portal veins. The improved visual quality of the subtracted portogram aided in the detection of portosystemic shunts and intrahepatic portal veins. The subtraction studies revealed portosystemic shunts not detected on the initial portal venogram. 相似文献

SUMMARY Ventricular septal defects were diagnosed in 3 familially-related Saanen goats, a 4-year-old doe and 2 female kids aged 18 weeks, by clinical examination, electrocardiography, phonocardiography and thoracic radiography. Findings were contrasted with those from 3 clinically normal goats. Cardiac catheterisation was attempted on the 2 affected kids before euthanasia. Blood pressure tracings and selective contrast cardioangiography successfully demonstrated the defect in one case, but the other died shortly after anaesthetic induction. The adult goat, suspected paternal grand-dam of the affected twins, died without premonitory signs at 4.5 years of age. Necropsy confirmed the diagnosis in all 3 cases. 相似文献

Ante mortem diagnosis of portal vein thrombosis was determined ultrasonographically in four dogs. In each dog the thrombus was visible in two-dimensional, grey-scale images of the portal vein obtained through a right intercostal window. Duplex-Doppler measurements and color-Doppler images provided information about the effects of thrombosis on portal blood flow. Reduced portal blood flow compatible with portal hypertension was detected in three dogs. A hypercoagulable state was probably involved in the pathogenesis of portal vein thrombosis in two dogs, one with pancreatitis and gastrointestinal blood loss and another with protein-losing nephropathy and probable immune-mediated anemia. The third dog had chronic ehrlichiosis; thrombosis was probably secondary to vasculitis. The remaining dog had thrombosis secondary to invasion of the portal vein by a recurrent duodenal neoplasm. This dog was euthanized because the tumor was considered inoperable. The dog with pancreatitis developed acute portal hypertension due to obstruction of the portal vein by the thrombus and was euthanized. The dogs with protein-losing nephropathy and ehrlichiosis were treated medically and recovered. Although portal vein thrombosis is uncommon, this complication should be considered in dogs with a variety of abdominal or systemic disorders. Ultrasonography is a practical method for diagnosis of portal vein thrombosis and detection of the underlying cause. 相似文献

Osteochondrosis is a failure of the normal process of endochondral ossification. In the elbow joint there are three manifestations of osteochondrosis, namely osteochondritis dissecans of the medial condyle of the humerus, ununited coronoid process and ununited anconeal process. This paper describes a series of sixty-eight cases diagnosed at a referral centre over a 10-year period. Ununited coronoid process and OCD of the medial condyle are not readily diagnosed because the lesions are difficult to demonstrate radiographically, but signs of degenerative joint disease of the elbow in young dogs of the medium to large breeds is strongly suggestive. Surgical treatment is indicated and the surgical approach to the medial aspect of the joint is described. 相似文献

An electrophoretic method is described for distinguishing between fish fillets according to their protein composition. Thaw fluid (4 microL) was applied to one of 14 sample positions of a precast gel, containing a gradient of polyacrylamide of either 2.5 to 27% or 3 to 40%. All reagents and gels are commercially available in ready-to-use form. Either gel provided a distinction between any of the 42 fish types, but the 3 to 40% gel gave better identification because of its superior molecular-sieving properties. Reproducible electrophoretic patterns were obtained for different samples of the same fish type, but small differences were shown for fish of widely different origin, for example Australian and New Zealand ling. 相似文献

The sonographic appearance of intraabdominal abscess, excluding prostatic abscess, is presented. The most common sonographic pattern identified for intraabdominal abscess is an irregularly defined, hypoechoic mass with minimal to no through transmission. Definitive diagnosis of intraabdominal abscess using only sonography is not possible, as variations of this common sonographic pattern are imaged. Sonography is best utilized to scan an animal when there is a high suspicion of intraabdominal abscess with no overt physical or radiographic evidence, and to better characterize intraabdominal masses. Sonography can be used to assist in percutaneous aspiration, catheterization, and intraoperative localization of abscessation. 相似文献
