In this study, energy absorption capacity, flexural and dynamic properties of flax fibre reinforced epoxy polymer composite (FFRP) tubes are investigated. The energy absorption capacity of the tubes is investigated under uniaxial compression. Flexural behaviour of the tubes is studied under four-point bending and the dynamic properties (i.e., natural frequency and damping characteristics) are evaluated by impact hammer vibration testing of the tube specimens. The damping characteristics of the tubes are determined by using both a logarithmic decrement curve and the half-peak bandwidth method. The influence of tube laminate thickness and specimen size on the mechanical properties of FFRP tubes is determined. Compressive testing indicates that the FFRP tube provides a specific absorbed energy of 22 J/g, which is close to the conventional metal energy absorption materials, i.e. stainless steel and aluminium tubes. Flexural study shows that the FFRP tube exhibits a brittle failure as similar to that of the FFRP composites in a flat-coupon tension. The load carrying capacity and deflection of the tube increase with an increase in the tube thickness. Impact loading test concludes that an increase in tube thickness leads to a reduction in natural frequency and damping ratio of the tubes. The FFRP tubes have sizedependent dynamic properties, i.e. an increase in tube size increased the natural frequency but reduced the damping ratio of the specimens remarkably. However, all FFRP tubes have high damping ratios, thus reducing the effect of dynamic loading on the structural response. Therefore, this study suggests that FFRP tubes could be used in several structural applications, i.e. in automotive as energy absorbers and in civil infrastructure as poles.  相似文献

Paratuberculosis (pTB) is a chronic granulomatous enteritis caused by Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP) in a wide variety of domestic and wild animals. Control of pTB is difficult due to the lack of sensitive, efficacious and cost-effective diagnostics and marker vaccines. Microscopy, culture, and PCR have been used for the screening of MAP infection in animals for quite a long time. Besides, giving variable sensitivity and specificity, these tests have not been considered ideal for large-scale screening of domestic livestock. Serological tests like ELISA easily detects anti-MAP antibodies. However, it cannot differentiate between the vaccinated and infected animals. Nanotechnology-based diagnostic tests are underway to improve the sensitivity and specificity. Newer generation diagnostic tests based on recombinant MAP secretory proteins would open new paradigm for the differentiation between infected and vaccinated animals and for early detection of the infection. Due to higher seroreactivity of secretory proteins vis-à-vis cellular proteins, the secretory proteins may be used as marker vaccine, which may aid in the control of pTB infection in animals. Secretory proteins can be potentially used to develop future diagnostics, surveillance and monitoring of the disease progression in animals and the marker vaccine for the control and eradication of pTB.  相似文献

Background  

Genome analysis of soybean (Glycine max L.) has been complicated by its paleo-autopolyploid nature and conserved homeologous regions. Landmarks of expressed sequence tags (ESTs) located within a minimum tile path (MTP) of contiguous (contig) bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) clones or radiation hybrid set can identify stress and defense related gene rich regions in the genome. A physical map of about 2,800 contigs and MTPs of 8,064 BAC clones encompass the soybean genome. That genome is being sequenced by whole genome shotgun methods so that reliable estimates of gene family size and gene locations will provide a useful tool for finishing. The aims here were to develop methods to anchor plant defense- and stress-related gene paralogues on the MTP derived from the soybean physical map, to identify gene rich regions and to correlate those with QTL for disease resistance.  相似文献

This work investigates the effects of fibre content and fibre orientation on the damping of flax fibre-reinforced polypropylene composites. Laminates of various fibre contents were manufactured by a vacuum bagging process; their dynamic behaviour were then found from the vibration measurements of beam test specimens using an impulse hammer technique to frequencies of 1 kHz. The frequency response of a sample was measured and the response at resonance was used to estimate the natural frequency and loss factor. The single-degree-of-freedom circle-fit method and the Newton’s divided differences formula were used to estimate the natural frequencies as well as the loss factors. The damping estimates were also investigated using a “carpet” plot. Experiments were subsequently conducted on a range of samples with different fibre volume fractions and orientations. The results show significant variations in natural frequencies and loss factors according to the variations in fibre orientation. Composites containing 45°, 60° and 90° fibre orientation exhibit approximately the same natural frequencies. Composites with differing fibre orientations exhibit different loss factors for the various modes of vibration, and the maximum loss factor is obtained for the case of 45° fibre orientation, with the loss factor generally lying in the range of 2-7 %. It was found that the loss factor increases with increasing frequency and decreases slightly with increasing fibre content. These outcomes indicate that flax fibre-reinforced composite could be a commercially viable material for applications in which noise and vibration are significant issues and where a significant amount of damping is required.  相似文献

Genes encoding an acidic wheat class IV chitinase (383), an acidic wheat β 1,3-glucanase (638) and a rice cationic peroxidase (POC1) were introduced into ‘Nantes Coreless’ carrot (Daucus carota) by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. The genes were introduced singly or in various combinations followed by selection imposed by the herbicide phosphinothricin. Regenerated plantlets were screened for presence and expression of the three transgenes using PCR, Southern and Northern hybridisations. Eighteen transgenic lines expressing a single transgene and 2 lines each co-expressing 638/383 and 383/POC1 were assessed for resistance to the necrotrophic fungal pathogens Botrytis cinerea and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. Percentage leaf area diseased was measured 4 and 7 days after inoculation (dai) and compared to non-transformed control plants. Six lines expressing β-1,3-glucanase 638 alone had no enhanced resistance to B. cinerea at 4 dai and only slight resistance to S. sclerotiorum; there was no effect at 7 dai. Two out of the six lines expressing 383 alone had enhanced tolerance to both pathogens with a 20–50% reduction in disease development at 7 dai. Two lines co-expressing 638/383 had slight reductions in disease by (10–20%) similar to that of the lines expressing chitinase 383 alone. Highest levels of disease resistance were seen in transgenic lines expressing POC1, alone or in combination with chitinase 383. Disease symptoms were slower to develop and symptoms were reduced by up to 90% for B. cinerea and 70% for S. sclerotiorum. The 383/POC1 co-expressing plants developed disease at levels similar to that of POC1 alone. Petioles of plants over-expressing POC1 had higher levels of lignin accumulation constitutively compared to control plants, which was greatly enhanced following inoculation with S. sclerotiorum. These results indicate that peroxidase over-expression can lead to significant disease reduction against necrotrophic pathogens in transgenic carrot plants.  相似文献

A total of 180 mixed‐sex pigs (Duroc × (Yorkshire × Landrace); average initial body weight of 7.36 ± 0.2 kg) weaned at 21 ± 1 days were fed corn‐soybean meal‐wheat‐based diets to determine the optimal standardized ileal digestible (SID) tryptophan to lysine ratio (Trp : Lys) in a 2 × 5 factorial arrangement (two sanitary conditions: clean (CL) and unclean (UCL), and five dietary treatments (SID Trp : Lys (16, 18, 20, 22 and 24%)). In each sanitary condition, blood was collected on days 0 and 14 to determine plasma urea nitrogen and on day 14, ileal tissue (one pig per pen) was collected for the measurement of gut morphology. Pigs kept under UCL conditions had lower growth rate (P < 0.05) than under CL conditions. Under CL conditions, the estimated optimal SID Trp : Lys for average daily gain (ADG) was 19.7% whereas under UCL conditions these values were 20.5% and 19.0% for ADG and gain‐to‐feed ratio, respectively. Under CL conditions, increasing SID Trp : Lys reduced (linear, P = 0.05) plasma urea nitrogen concentration but had no effect (P > 0.10) on villous height (VH), crypt depth ( CD) and VH : CD. In conclusion, an SID Trp : Lys to optimize ADG for pigs raised under UCL conditions was higher (4%) than CL conditions.  相似文献
