The influences of pelleting and beta-glucanase supplementation on the digestibility of dietary components in a barley-based diet were investigated in pigs fitted with cannulas in the terminal ileum. The diet contained 49.0% starch, 18.9% crude protein and 14.8% dietary fiber, with arabinoxylans (4.9%), mixed-linked beta-glucans (3.4%) and cellulose (3.3%) as the main fiber components. Pelleting increased mixed-linked beta-glucan solubility from 45 to 62%. Neither treatment influenced the ileal or fecal apparent digestibilities of dry matter (64 and 80%, respectively), energy (62 and 79%), crude protein (53 and 75%), crude fat (26 and 27%) or dietary fiber (58 and 72%). However, pelleting increased (P less than .01) the pre-ileal apparent digestibility of starch from 91.5 to 95.3% and decreased (P less than .03) that of ash from -10 to -23%, while increasing (P less than .005) the fecal apparent digestibility of starch from 98.6 to 99.7%. The solubility of mixed-linked beta-glucans in ileal digesta was lower (P less than .001) in pelleted (26%) than in unpelleted (58%) diets. beta-glucanase supplementation also increased (P less than .05) the ileal apparent digestibility of starch, from 92.6 to 94.3%, and of mixed-linked beta-glucans, from 95.7 to 97.1%. Significant between-pig differences in the apparent digestibility of dietary components were observed. In conclusion, treatments that disrupt the endosperm cell walls in barley can increase the proportion of the diet digested prior to the large intestine.  相似文献

Two colonies of the carmine spider mite,Tetranychus cinnabarinus (Boisd.), were raised on beans in the laboratory. One originated from roses in a greenhouse which had received acaricidal treatments, and the other fromViola odorata L. in a garden where no pesticides had been used. Laboratory evaluation indicated that the greenhouse strain was highly resistant to dicofol (Kelthane) and bromopro-pylate (Neoron), moderately resistant to propargite (Omite), and slightly resistant to cyhexatin (Plictran); in the garden strain, there was no resistance to any of these acaricides. On a strain of carmine spider mites which was identified and defined as resistant, several acaricides were evaluated in the laboratory for their contact toxicity to the mite by the slide dip method, and for their contact plus stomach toxicity by exposing the mites to sprayed leaves. Some of these acaricides were later tested in the field on two undetermined populations. Cyhexatin, triazophos (Hostathion), fentrifanil (PP-199) and R-28627 killed more than 90% of the mites by both methods and were effective in the field. NC-13292 was an ovicide only. Proclonol (R-8284) had a good effect in the slide dip method but was not so effective in the leaf exposure test. The compounds tested were phytotoxic to rose foliage only, but triazophos burned all the crops tested.  相似文献

Microspore populations of eight Fhybrids of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) whose parents had different levels of resistance to Fusarium were screened in vitro, using phytotoxins of Fusarium as biochemical probe. Two selection methods were compared for the in vitro selection: either embryoids and calli were first initiated from anthers in toxin-free medium and then grown on medium with 0.3—0.9 %Fusarium toxin; or anthers were immediately cultured in modified liquid potato-2 medium in the presence of 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5ml Fusarium toxin per liter culture medium, a concentration which reduced the number of calli and embryoids to about 10 % compared to the toxin-free controls. Microspores from donor hybrids which were produced from very susceptible cultivars were killed by lower toxin concentrations than micro-spores from hybrids of less susceptible parents. From surviving calli and embryoids, originally initiated from 242,000 anthers in both procedures a total of 375 green lines could be regenerated. The results indicate that it is possible to enrich the fraction of regenerating microspores by those which contain the gene complex responsible for reduced susceptibility to Fusarium by the use of a pathotoxin.  相似文献

The Davis growth model (DGM) simulates growth and body composition of beef cattle and predicts development of 4 fat depots. Model development and evaluation require quantitative data on fat weights, but sometimes it is necessary to use carcass data that are more commonly reported. Regression equations were developed based on published data to interconvert between carcass characteristics and kilograms of fat in various depots and to predict the initial conditions for the DGM. Equations include those evaluating the relationship between the following: subcutaneous fat (SUB, kg) and 12th-rib fat thickness (mm); visceral fat (VIS, kg) and KPH (kg); DNA (g) in intermuscular, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and visceral fat depots and empty body weight; and contributions of fat (kg) in intramuscular (INTRA), SUB, and VIS fat depots and total body fat (kg). The intermuscular fat (INTER, kg) contribution was found by difference. The linear regression equations were as follows: SUB vs. 12th-rib fat thickness (n = 75; P < 0.01) with R(2) = 0.88 and SE = 10.00; VIS vs. KPH (kg; n = 78; P < 0.01) with R(2) = 0.95 and SE = 2.82; the DNA (g) equations for INTER, INTRA, SUB, and VIS fat depots vs. empty body weight (n = 6, 5, 6, and 6; P = 0.08, P < 0.01, P < 0.01, and P = 0.05) with R(2) = 0.57, 0.93, 0.93, and 0.66, and SE = 0.03, 0.003, 0.02, and 0.03, respectively; and initial contribution of INTRA, SUB, and VIS fat depots vs. total body fat (n = 23; P < 0.01) for each depot, with R(2) = 0.97, 0.99, and 0.97, and SE = 0.61, 0.93, and 1.41, respectively. All empirical equations except for DNA were challenged with independent data sets (n = 12 and 10 for SUB and VIS equations and n = 9 for the initial INTER, INTRA, SUB, and VIS fat depots). The mean biases were -2.21 (P = 0.12) and 2.11 (P < 0.01) kg for the SUB and VIS equations, respectively, and 0.05 (P = 0.97), -0.37 (P = 0.27), 1.82 (P = 0.08), and -1.50 (P = 0.06) kg for the initial contributions of INTER, INTRA, SUB, and VIS fat depots, respectively. The random components of the mean square error of prediction were 73 and 26% for the SUB and VIS equations, respectively, and similarly were 99, 85, 62, and 61% for the initial contributions of INTER, INTRA, SUB, and VIS fat depots, respectively. Both the SUB and VIS equations predicted accurately within the bounds of experimental error. The equations to predict initial fat contribution (kg) were considered adequate for initializing the fat depot differential equations for the DGM and other beef cattle simulation models.  相似文献

The current study aimed to investigate the circadian rhythm of blood metabolic parameters associated with summer heat stress (HS) in dairy cows. Ten healthy lactating Holstein Friesian cows were followed during HS for three successive days at six different time points. Blood was sampled from each cow starting from 07:00 am; at 4-h intervals. Ambient air temperature and relative humidity were recorded, and temperature-humidity index (THI) was calculated as well. Respiration rate (RR) and rectal temperature (RT) were recorded for each cow at the time of blood sampling. Concentrations of glucose, non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA), total cholesterol (TC) and urea were measured in each blood sample. The THI values were >68 at all times of the day, and the highest values were recorded at 11:00 am, 03:00 pm and 07:00 pm (80.9, 83.7, and 80.8, respectively). All the cows showed a significantly higher RR and RT coinciding with higher THI values (93 ± 4 and 39.6 ± 0.1; 90.2 ± 3.4, and 40.1 ± 0.1; 87.6 ± 4.1, and 39.8 ± 0.1, respectively, P < 0.05). The concentrations of glucose were the lowest at 11:00 am and 03:00 pm (3.75 ± 0.1 and 3.44 ± 0.1 mmol/L, respectively, P < 0.05). Decreased glucose concentrations coincided with increased NEFA concentrations, (0.43 ± 0.01 and 0.56 ± 0.02 mmol/L, respectively, P < 0.05), and were highly negatively correlated (r = −0.50, P < 0.001). The highest urea and TC concentrations were registered at 11:00 am (6.11 ± 0.15 mmol/L and 109.9 ± 2.2 mg/dl, respectively) whereas the lowest urea and TC values were recorded at 03:00 am (4.97 ± 0.18 mmol/L and 99.5 ± 1.7 mg/dl, respectively, P < 0.05). The results of the present study indicate that there was a circadian variation in glucose, NEFA, urea, and TC resulting in the most unfavorable metabolic condition during the hottest moment of the day in dairy cattle. Earlier work revealed that HS-metabolic changes are reflected in the follicular fluid. The circadian changes observed in the present study associated with HS may imply that also the microenvironment of the oocyte is affected.  相似文献

A 10‐week growth trial was performed to evaluate the effects of feeding rate on growth performance, nutrient partitioning, and to determine the optimum feeding rate for young‐of‐the‐year white sturgeon. Three tanks with 30 fish per tank each were assigned to five feeding rates, 0.4–2.0% body weight per day (BW day?1). Weight gain significantly (< 0.05) increased with increasing feeding rate up to 1.2% BW day?1. Feed efficiency exhibited an inverse relationship to weight gain. Hepatosomatic and gonadal‐fat‐body (GFB)‐somatic indices were significantly affected by feeding rate, and the lowest values were observed at 0.4% BW day?1. The increased feeding rate significantly affected whole‐body and carcass lipid and moisture contents. Protein gain in the carcass, but not in the GFB, was significantly influenced by feeding rate. Lipid gain in the carcass and GFB was also significantly affected by feeding rate. Four regression models were tested for the estimation of optimum feeding rate, including one‐slope straight broken‐line, two‐slope straight broken‐line, quadratic broken‐line and quadratic models. Adjusted coefficient of correlation and corrected Akaike information criterion were used to compare model performance. The quadratic broken‐line model was chosen as the best based on the criteria. The estimated optimum feeding rate for young‐of‐the‐year white sturgeon (360 g) is 1.5% BW day?1.  相似文献

A survey for viruses was carried out in 2003 in the main olive-growing areas of Lebanon (South Lebanon, North Lebanon, Mount Lebanon and Bekaa). A total of 300 samples was collected in 31 different locations in 76 different commercial orchards and checked by RT-PCR for the presence of Arabis mosaic virus (ArMV), Cherry leaf roll virus (CLRV), Strawberry latent ringspot virus (SLRV), Olive latent virus 1 (OLV-1) and Olive leaf yellowing-associated virus (OLYaV), using virus-specific primers reported in the literature. About one third (31%) of the trees were infected. In particular, the closterovirus OLYaV was the most widespread, as it was detected in 23.7% of the samples, followed by the necrovirus OLV-1 (8.3%), the two nepoviruses CLRV (2%) and ArMV (0.3%), and the sadwavirus SLRV (0.3%). A high variability was detected in the HSP70 gene of Lebanese and Italian OLYaV isolates, for at least nine different patterns were obtained when this genomic region was subjected to single-strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP) analysis.  相似文献

Development of axonal tracts requires interactions between growth cones and the environment. Tracts such as the anterior commissure and internal capsule are defective in mice with null mutation of Celsr3. We generated a conditional Celsr3 allele, allowing regional inactivation. Inactivation in telencephalon, ventral forebrain, or cortex demonstrated essential roles for Celsr3 in neurons that project axons to the anterior commissure and subcerebral targets, as well as in cells that guide axons through the internal capsule. When Celsr3 was inactivated in cortex, subcerebral projections failed to grow, yet corticothalamic axons developed normally, indicating that besides guidepost cells, additional Celsr3-independent cues can assist their progression. These observations provide in vivo evidence that Celsr3-mediated interactions between axons and guidepost cells govern axonal tract formation in mammals.  相似文献

Recent studies have extended the rapidly developing retroviral restriction factor field to cells of carnivore species. Carnivoran genomes, and the domestic cat genome in particular, are revealing intriguing properties vis-à-vis the primate and feline lentiviruses, not only with respect to their repertoires of virus-blocking restriction factors but also replication-enabling dependency factors. Therapeutic application of restriction factors is envisioned for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) disease and the feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) model has promise for testing important hypotheses at the basic and translational level. Feline cell-tropic HIV-1 clones have also been generated by a strategy of restriction factor evasion. We review progress in this area in the context of what is known about retroviral restriction factors such as TRIM5α, TRIMCyp, APOBEC3 proteins and BST-2/Tetherin.  相似文献
