Acanthocephalan and spargana parasites were identified within a body wall mass during exploratory surgery in a wild green tree snake. Acanthocephalan parasites have not previously been reported in this species. Surgical excision, the treatment of choice, could not be achieved because of the extensive infiltration of the coelomic cavity.  相似文献

Objective To study the efficacy of multiple striate keratotomy for the treatment of persistent corneal erosions suspected to be caused by primary corneal epithelial basement membrane disease.
Design A retrospective study.
Animals 16 dogs, three cats and one Australian dingo.
Procedure A technique called multiple striate keratotomy was used to treat twenty animals suffering from persistent corneal erosions.
Results All persistent corneal erosions healed with only one treatment. Most cases healed within 2 weeks. One case developed a second erosion in the same eye but in a different position to the original erosion.
Conclusions Multiple striate keratotomy is a safe, effective and well tolerated technique for the treatment of persistent corneal erosions thought to be caused by corneal epithelial basement membrane disease.  相似文献

Femtosecond laser pulses and coherent two-phonon Raman scattering were used to excite KTaO3 into a squeezed state, nearly periodic in time, in which the variance of the atomic displacements dips below the standard quantum limit for half of a cycle. This nonclassical state involves a continuum of transverse acoustic modes that leads to oscillations in the refractive index associated with the frequency of a van Hove singularity in the phonon density of states.  相似文献

Angle-resolved photoemission experiments reveal evidence of an energy gap in the normal state excitation spectrum of the cuprate superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+delta. This gap exists only in underdoped samples and closes around the doping level at which the superconducting transition temperature Tc is a maximum. The momentum dependence and magnitude of the gap closely resemble those of the dx2-y2 gap observed in the superconducting state. This observation is consistent with results from several other experimental techniques, which also indicate the presence of a gap in the normal state. Some possible theoretical explanations for this effect are reviewed.  相似文献

In many studies on soil pollution, authors conclude that there is no downward migration of metal elements if no evidence for enrichment can be inferred from profiles of total metal contents. We assessed possible transfer of mobile and less mobile metal pollutants to depth in subsurface horizons of a heavy metal contaminated soil, by a study of specific pedofeatures in thin sections by optical microscopy, and their corresponding Zn and Pb distribution patterns by synchrotron‐based X‐ray microfluorescence. In the B horizon (70 cm depth), Zn accumulation was predominantly associated with clay–iron coatings. Strong correlation was found between Zn and Fe (r = 0.94), Zn and Mn (r = 0.75), Zn and Ti (r = 0.84), and Zn and K (r = 0.88), but significant correlation was absent between Zn and Pb. In the C horizon (100 cm depth), clear Pb accumulation was observed in distinct iron coatings, with large correlation coefficients found between Pb and Fe (r = 0.94–0.75), whereas correlation between Zn and Fe was absent. Detected Zn concentrations were small and attributed to the local natural geochemical background. These results were then compared with data of the composition of gravitational soil water collected in other soils from the same study area. Thus, Zn accumulation in the B horizon was ascribed to interception of dissolved Zn2+ by negatively charged constituents of clay–iron coatings. In contrast, Pb accumulation in C horizons was related to precipitation of Pb‐bearing iron colloids leading to neoformed, optically pure iron oxyhydroxide crystals and coatings. We demonstrate very localized accumulation of almost immobile Pb which occurs at greater depth than the more mobile Zn. The common, but strongly localized, occurrence of Pb‐bearing iron coatings in the soil groundmass explained the absence of changes in the total Pb concentrations of the C horizon compared with the concentrations in the B horizon.  相似文献

Soil faunal bioturbation (‘bioturbation’) is often cited as a major process influencing the vertical distribution of soil organic matter (SOM). The influence of bioturbation on vertical SOM transport is complex because it is the result of interaction between different groups of soil faunal species that redistribute SOM through the soil profile in distinct ways. We performed a semi‐quantitative micromorphological analysis of soil faunal pedofeatures and related their occurrence to the vertical distribution of SOM and high‐resolution radiocarbon dating in volcanic ash soils under montane forest and grassland (páramo) vegetation in the northern Ecuadorian Andes. The páramo soil data suggest that bioturbation was largely responsible for the vertical distribution of SOM, while illuviation and root input were of minor importance. Bioturbation was caused by endogeic species, which typically mix the soil only over short vertical distances. Short vertical distance mixing was apparently enhanced by the upward shifting of bioturbation as a result of soil thickening due to SOM accumulation. A change from páramo to forest vegetation was accompanied by a change from endogeic to epigeic species. As these latter species do not redistribute material vertically, this eventually resulted in the formation of thick ectorganic horizons in the forest.  相似文献
