Pharmacotoxicological aspects of nitrate and nitrite in domestic fowls   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
1. The effects of nitrates and nitrites on growth, erythrocytic count, liver and kidney functions, humoral and cell mediated immune responses in cockerels were investigated. 2. Sodium nitrate (4.2 g/kg diet) and sodium nitrite (1.7 g/kg) retarded growth, caused methaemoglobinaemia and changes in erythrocytic count, serum concentrations of glutamic-pyruvic transaminase, creatinine and urea. 3. Cockerels given nitrate or nitrite in the food had reduced haemagglutination responses after injection of sheep erythrocytes and a reduced delayed hypersensitivity reaction to purified protein derivative tuberculin following sensitisation to Bacille Calmette Guerin. 4. Nitrates and nitrites are environmental pollutants present in food and water and they may contribute to the aetiology of liver and kidney diseases and problems related to failure of immunity in domestic fowls.  相似文献

Gentamicin treatment caused an elevation in serum urea and creatinine concentrations and ALT activity, associated with pathological changes in the liver and kidney. The pathological and blood chemistry changes were more severe in diabetic gentamicin-treated than in non-diabetic gentamicin-treated rats. Alloxan-diabetic rats had lowered blood glutathione concentrations which may have been responsible for the enhancement of gentamicin toxicity in these rats.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A 24-week feeding trial was conducted in concrete tanks with Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.) with an average initial weight and length of 50.87 ± 6.03 g and 14.4 ± 0.45 cm, respectively, to examine the effect of two protein sources and two feeding frequencies on growth performance, production traits, and body composition. Twelve 4 m3 concrete tanks (2 × 2 × 1.25 m, long, width, and height) were each stocked with 100 fish and fed diets containing either fish meal protein or soybean meal protein at two feeding frequency of two times daily or four times daily (2 × 2 × 3 factorial experiment). The results revealed that there was no significant effect of dietary protein sources on growth rate, whereas there was a significant increase in growth rate with increasing feeding frequency (P < 0.05). The same trend was also observed for mean body weight (g), production rate (kg/m3), specific growth rate (SGR % day?1). The best final mean body weight (g), specific growth rate (SGR % day?1), and production rate (kg/m3) were recorded in groups of fish fed with feeding frequency four times daily. Whole fish moisture, protein, fat, and ash contents were significantly influenced (P ≤ 0.05) by protein sources and feeding frequency, except protein not influenced with feeding frequency. Energy was significantly (P < 0.05) influenced by feeding frequency, but not by dietary protein sources. Economic evaluation indicated that soybean meal (Diet B) at four times feeding daily was the most cost-effective and affordable feed strategy for farmers. We conclude that a soybean diet fed four times daily is recommended for adult Nile tilapia reared in concrete tanks.  相似文献

Sulphadimidine was administered to chickens via the intracrop route to determine plasma concentrations of the unchanged sulphonamide and its acetylated derivatives, kinetic disposition, tissue residues and acetylation. The sulphadimidine was given alone (group 1) at a dose of 200 mg kg-1 bodyweight. Pantothenic acid was given via the intracrop route at a dose of 100 mg kg-1 bodyweight one hour before (group 2) and six hours after (group 3) sulphadimidine administration (200 mg kg-1 bodyweight intracrop). The highest plasma concentrations of sulphadimidine in groups 1, 2 and 3 were reached in 1.73, 1.62 and 1.71 hours, respectively, following intracrop administration. In birds of groups 1, 2 and 3 no sulphadimidine was detected at 72, 24 and 48 hours, respectively, following its administration. Estimation of sulphadimidine in most of the body tissues revealed that all tissues examined had lower concentrations than plasma. In chickens given pantothenic acid (groups 2 and 3) before and after sulphadimidine administration, an increase in the concentration of N4 acetylated derivatives of sulphadimidine was observed compared with birds given sulphadimidine alone (group 1).  相似文献

Chicory (Cichorium spp.) is a valuable vegetable crop worldwide for its edible leaves and for the production of coffee substitutes from roots. Agrobacterium rhizogenes-mediated genetic transformation of two species of chicory (C. intybus and C. endivia) was investigated using Agrobacterium strain K599 harbouring p35SGFPGUS+ plasmid and two types of explants: leave and leaf stalks. This Agrobacterium strain proved to be competent in the transformation with transformation rate about (23.1%) in leaf explants of C. intybus. However, the transformation rate with C. endivia was much lower (3.6%). Moreover, the hairy roots appeared from different infection sites of the leaf explants. Several hairy roots of the two species were acquired, out of them 11 clones (C. intybus) and two clones (C. endivia) were selected due to their fast-growing character. Growth of hairy roots was determined on the basis of total root biomass accumulation. It was found that the liquid MS-basal medium seems to be the most suitable for biomass production. PCR analysis revealed foreign DNA integration in the selected transgenic hairy root clones. Notable, the transgenic hairy roots exhibited substantially higher growth rates and accumulated higher amount of inulin than non transgenic roots (WT). In view of the disadvantages of human and equine rabies immunoglobulin still there is urgent needs for safe and cost-control anti-rabies immunoglobulins especially for person who have been severely exposed (categories III) to the virus. Our attempt to produce a less immunogenic and cheaper anti-rabies immunoglobulin affordable for those people living in developing countries, has been harnessed the ovine as a bioreactor instead the horse. The animals have been intramuscular immunized, and the plasma processed with 5% caprylic acid to yield IgG with purity of 95%. Moreover, antibody apparently indicated that the titer and neutralizing indexes were harmonized, especially at higher antibody dilution. The results showed that three immunized sheep were produced about 7000 IU of purified anti-rabies antibody. Sheep's IgG has low immunogenic effect than human and horse antibodies when injected into the mouse. Pure concentrated ovine antibody may serve as a possible alternative to currently available anti-rabies human or equine immunoglobulin.  相似文献

Strips of smooth muscle from the pulmonary vein, pulmonary artery, trachea and bronchus of calves were incubated in an organ bath with 3-methylindole (3MI) and 3-methyloxindole (3MOI). 3MI and 3MOI (5-640 micrograms/ml) did not cause contraction of any of the isolated smooth muscle preparations. No evidence for the release of mediators of anaphylaxis was obtained when chopped bovine lung preparations were incubated with 3MI (20 micrograms/ml) and 3MOI (25 micrograms/ml). Results of the present work diminish the possibility that the pneumotoxic effect of 3MI is due to a primary hydrodynamic imbalance across the alveolocapillary membrane resulting in excess filtration over reabsorption.  相似文献

The pharmacokinetics of cefuroxime sodium, 20 and 40 mg kg(-1), were studied after i.v. and intramuscular injections in goats. Following single i.v. injections the serum concentration time curves of cefuroxime sodium were best fitted to a two-compartment open model. The drug was rapidly distributed with half-lives of distribution (t(1/2 alpha)) of 0.250 hours and 0.266 hours, and rapidly eliminated with half-lives of elimination (t(1/2 beta)) of 1.482 hours and 1.416 hours, respectively, following single i.v. injections of 20 and 40 mg kg(-1)body weight. After single intramuscular injections of cefuroxime sodium at the same doses, the mean absorption time (MAT) values were 1.379 and 1.716 hours and the peak serum concentration, C(max), was 12.965 and 38.50 microg ml(-1), attained after 0.515 and 0.608 hours (t(max)), respectively. The elimination half-lives (t(1/2el)) were 2.088 and 2.114 hours and the mean residence times (MRT) were 3.198 and 3.237 hours for 20 and 40 mg kg(-1)body weight, respectively. After both i.v. and intramuscular injections of cefuroxime sodium, the concentrations of cefuroxime in urine were much higher than that in serum. Urinary drug concentrations decreased gradually to reach their lowest levels at 24 and 48 hours post-injection, respectively. The systemic bioavailability of cefuroxime sodium in goats after intramuscular injections of 20 and 40 mg kg(-1)body weight was 88.4 per cent and 103.5 per cent, respectively. In vitro protein binding of cefuroxime sodium in goat's serum was low, ranging from 13.3 per cent to 21.6 per cent with an average of 17.0 per cent.  相似文献

The current study used topographic anatomy, distribution of arteries and nerves, sectional anatomy of the pelvis, computed tomography (CT) and ultrasonography examination to describe the canine pelvis and its organs. This study was conducted on twenty male and female baladi dogs, weighing 30–35 kg and aged between 1.5 and 2 years. The pelvis dorsal boundary appeared long and reached to the level of the third caudal vertebra. The vesicogenital pouch in the female extended further caudally than the rectogenital pouch while in the male the two pouches were at the same level and extended to the level of the first sacral vertebra. The plexus lumbosacralis formed from the ventral branches of the last three lumbar nerves and the first three sacral nerves. The obturator nerve arose from the ventral branches of the fifth and sixth lumbar nerves. We developed an anatomical atlas of the pelvis of both sexes of the dog using CT scans compared to anatomical sections. Our study is the first research on the pelvis in both sexes of the dog to compare sagittal CT scan data to sagittal anatomical sections. In the CT slices, the prostate appeared homogenous, relatively hypodense presenting with a soft tissue density. It appeared oval in the longitudinal sections and elliptical to round at the cross sections. It was situated on the floor of the pelvic cavity or the pelvic brim depending on its size. The present study is also the first to describe the fascia diaphragmatic pelvis.  相似文献

Arsenic is a non-essential and toxic heavy metal, which can cause physiological disorder in plants. The present study was undertaken to examine the possible roles of sodium nitroprusside (SNP, a donor of NO) in protection against oxidative damage due to arsenic (As) toxicity in faba bean (Vicia faba L.) plants. In this study, we measured physiochemical parameters (photosynthetic pigments, lipid peroxidation, endogenous hormones, minerals and phenolic contents) in faba bean plants exposed to AS (100, 200 and 400 µM) alone or combined with NO (100 µM). The results showed that application of all concentrations of arsenic (100, 200 and 400 µM) induced decrease on growth parameters, seed yield, photosynthetic pigments, phytohormones, minerals contents (N3?, P3?, K+, Ca2+?and Mg2+) as compared to control plants but increased lipid peroxidation, Na?+ and total phenolic compounds fraction. Foliar application of 100 µM NO reversed the inhibition induced by As treatment. In addition, arsenic was undetected in harvested seeds at all applied concentrations of arsenic. Therefore, it could be concluded that NO might account for the alleviating effect of As stress on Vicia faba plants.  相似文献
