The cement industry has been one of the major sources of air pollution in the past and the Turkish Air Quality Protection Regulation has issued limits also to trace elementemissions to minimise the polluting effects of this industrialsector. In the present study, dust samples were obtained isokinetically from 18 main stacks of 10 cement plants locatedin different geographical areas of Turkey. The samples were analysed for trace elements Hg, Cd, Cr, Pb, Ni, Se, Te, TI, V, Sb, Ba, Zn, Co, Sr, Cu, Bi, Mo, Be, and As. The results are presented both as concentration in the dust samples as well as emissions per unit production, and concentration inthe stack gas. The trace element emissions of the main stacksagree to great extent with the values given in the literature. On the other hand, the trace element emissions of the plants considered are well below the limits set in the Turkish Air Quality Protection Regulation.  相似文献

Parental, F1, F2, BC1, BC2, BC11, BC12, BC21, BC22, BC1 self and BC2 selfed generations of three crosses involving six cultivars of durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) were studied for grains per spike under normal and late sown environments to analyze the nature of gene effects. A 10-parameter model did not fully account for the differences among the generation means. In two cases more complex interactions or linkage were involved in the inheritance of grains per spike in durum. Both digenic and trigenic epistatic interactions had a role in controlling the inheritance of grains per spike, however, trigenic interactions contributed more than digenic interactions. Non-fixable gene effects were many times higher than fixable ones in all three crosses and in both sowing environments indicating a major role of non-additive gene effects in the inheritance of this trait. Duplicate epistasis between sets of three genes under both environments was recorded for the cross Raj 911 × DWL 5002. Epistatic interactions, particularly the trigenic ones, contributed the maximum significant heterosis. Epistatic interactions involving dominance in the F2 generations caused significant inbreeding depression. Selective diallel mating and/or biparental mating could be used for amelioration of grains per spike in durum wheat.  相似文献

Nanocomposite film composed of bacterial cellulose (10-50 wt.%) and poly-urethane (PU) based resin was fabricated and utilized as a substrate for flexible organic light emitting diode (OLED) display. The performance of the nanocomposite satisfied the criteria for the substrate of OLED with an additional feature of flexibility. The visible light transmittance of the nanocomposite film was as high as 80%. Its thermal stability was stable up to 150 °C while its dimensional stability in terms of coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) was less than 20 ppm/K. After OLED was fabricated on the substrate through thermal evaporation technique, the OLED performed highest current efficiency of 0.085 cd/A and power efficiency of 0.021 lm/W at 200 cd/m2 while retained its flexible feature, suggesting that bacterial cellulose nanocomposite is a promising material for the development of substrate for flexible OLED display.  相似文献

The intact yeast phase spores of Ophiostoma ulmi and O. novo‐ulmi isolates were analysed by matrix‐assisted‐laser‐desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight/time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry. The results clearly showed that isolates of O. ulmi and O. novo‐ulmi have different mass peak profiles. The specific mass in m/z may vary slightly. One of the peaks from m/z 7623 to 7630 dominated (in high intensity) mass spectra for all isolates of O. novo‐ulmi tested in this study. This specific peak is believed to be CU (cerato‐ulmi) protein. However, no specific m/z peak can be found to distinguish between the isolates of ssp. novo‐ulmi and ssp. americana. On the contrary, all isolates of O. ulmi tested possessed one of a dominate peak at m/z 7337 to 7342, but none around m/z 7626 as shown in O. novo‐ulmi isolates.  相似文献

This paper describes the chemical and biochemical properties of exopolysaccharides (EPS) produced by Ophiostoma ulmi and O. novo‐ulmi isolates, the Dutch elm disease (DED) fungi. Some of EPS have been considered as pathogenicity factor in the DED complex. The selected isolates grow well and produce EPS in a medium containing various types of carbon and nitrogen sources. EPS obtained from potato dextrose broth (PDB) medium appeared to be opaque, firm and stained purple blue with iodine‐potassium iodide solution, whereas those from yeast extract (YE) medium were less opaque, jelly‐like and remained unchanged in iodine solution. The selected fungal isolates produced much higher molecular weight EPS from the medium containing YE than from PDB. The results of this study suggest that high molecular weight compounds produced by O. ulmi (W9) and O. novo‐ulmi (R136) are not involved in DED pathogenesis. Spectrometric analysis of acid‐digested EPS obtained from PDB and YE revealed the presence of a monomer similar to glucose used as a standard. Thin layer chromatography indicated that glucan‐1,4‐α‐glucosidase (glucoamylase) only hydrolyses EPS from PDB media and releases glucose. The results strongly indicate that isolates of O. ulmi and O. novo‐ulmi produce starch‐like EPS from PDB medium. The EPS obtained from YE medium lacked this characteristic. The biological significance and the potential use of these EPS are discussed.  相似文献

We assessed soil N and C dynamics in a decomposition experiment at microcosm scale with leaf litter of evergreen shrubs and perennial grasses of the Patagonian Monte. We hypothesised that eventual changes in leaf-litter quality in arid Patagonian ecosystems disturbed by grazing would lead to changes in C and N dynamics in decaying leaf litter and the associated soil. We constructed microcosms with local soil and litterbags containing leaf litter of three perennial grass and three evergreen shrub species. Microcosms were incubated at field capacity during 12, 42 and 84 days. We assessed N, C, phenolics and lignin concentrations in leaf litter before incubation, and N and C concentrations after incubation. We estimated inorganic and total N and organic C in soil before and after incubation. We calculated C and N budgets and the associated rates of C and N losses from leaf litter, microbial respiration, N immobilisation in litter and soil, and N mineralisation at microcosms of each species by inverse modelling techniques. Initial leaf-litter N concentration was significantly higher and C:N ratio lower in evergreen shrubs than in perennial grasses. Leaf litter of perennial grasses was very similar in initial chemical composition among species. In contrast, evergreen shrubs displayed a large variability in the concentration of secondary compounds among species. Accordingly, microcosms of perennial grasses showed similar rates of C and N processes while those of evergreen shrubs showed diverse patterns and rates of processes among them. Process rates in microcosms of one of the evergreen shrub species were closely related to those of perennial grasses. In contrast, process rates in microcosms of the two other evergreen shrub species were quite different between them and from those of perennial grasses. We conclude that (i) the replacement of perennial grasses by evergreen shrubs or the shifting of species within evergreen shrubs in ecosystems disturbed by grazing could have different effects on ecosystem processes depending on the species involved, and (ii) species rather than life forms should be used to predict leaf-litter decomposability and associated soil C and N dynamics particularly in evergreen shrubs.  相似文献

Investigations on interspecific crossability in two species of the genus Citrullus were studied based on their morphology, chromosome pairing and pollen fertility in their hybrids resulting from 12 combinations(including reciprocals). These have been utilized for tracing the phylogenetic relationship between the taxa and factors responsible for their differentiation. A collective evaluation of data on cross compatibility,morphology, chromosome association and pollen fertility indicated a close phylogenetic relationship between the species C. colocynthis (wild2n = 22) and C. vulgaris (cultivated 2n = 22). Significant differences for crossability and pollen fertility were observed between hybrids of C. colocynthis × C. vulgaris and reciprocals. Meiotic analysis of F1 hybrids revealed that these two species are freely crossable and provide normal chromosome association, involving an average of 9 to maximum 11 pairs of chromosomes. This indicated the possibility of high recombination and thereby genetic introgression of desirable traits. As both the species are of economic significance, breeding strategies can be developed for the genetic improvement of these species. Gene effects were analyzed using mean spike length of 12 populations, viz., both parents, F1, F2, first back cross generation, BC1 and BC2, second backcross generations, BC11,BC12, BC21 and BC22 along with BC1 self and BC2 self derived by selfing BC1 and BC2populations of three crosses involving six diverse cultivars of Triticum durumto determine the nature of gene actions governing spike length through generation mean analysis under normal and late sown environments. The six-parameter model was adequate in most of the cases to explain genetic variation among the generation means under both the sowing environments. Additive (d) gene effect was significant in all the cases, whereas dominance (h) gene effect was not so frequently observed significant. Epistatic effects, particularly digenic types were predominant over additive and dominance effects in most of the cases under both normal and late sown environments except in the cross Cocorit 71 × A-9-30-1 (normal sown).Additive × dominance × dominance (y), trigenic interaction played significant role in controlling the inheritance of this trait in the cross HI 8062 × JNK-4W-128under late sown condition. Duplicate epistasis was observed in the cross HI 8062× JNK-4W-128 (normal sown). Non-fixable gene effects were of higher magnitude than fixable gene effects in almost all cases, confirmed the major role of non-additive gene effects to control the inheritance of spike length in durum wheat. Significant heterosis over better parent was not observed. Similarly, inbreeding depression was not commonly observed. Favourable and suitable environment must be considered before finalizing breeding programme for its simple inheritance to get desirable improvement for high grain yield. Hybridization systems, such as biparental mating and / or diallel selective mating, which exploit both additive and non-additive gene effects, simultaneously, could be useful in the improvement of spike length in durum wheat. Sesamia inferens (Walker) causes 25.7–78.9% losses in maize production in South and South‐East Asia. The genetic basis of host plant resistance is the prerequisite for resistance breeding. Twenty‐four populations derived from S. inferens resistant × susceptible inbreds were used to study the genetic regulation of resistance to S. inferens in maize, to determine the importance of genetic effects through generation mean analysis (GMA) and to understand correlation between resistance and yield. Resistant and susceptible inbreds differed significantly in leaf and stem injury ratings (LSIR), a measure of host plant resistance. Mean LSIR range among resistant and susceptible parents was 2.15–2.55 and 7.83–8.22, respectively. The broad‐sense heritability ranged from 0.40 to 0.71, and the mean number of effective factors ranged from 1.9 to 2.6. The resistance against S. inferens was largely governed by additive × additive (i), followed by dominance (d) and additive (a) gene effects. Significant negative correlation (?0.27 to ?0.96) was observed between LSIR and yield. The findings suggest reciprocal recurrent selection for development of new inbreds with resistance followed by their involvement in hybrid development to exploit additive and non‐additive gene effects/variance.  相似文献
