Twenty-nine pruritic, atopic dogs were entered into a double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study to evaluate the efficacy of an investigational antiallergenic compound, AHR-13268. Fourteen dogs were evaluated by a veterinary dermatologist (at intervals) and the owner (daily). Fifteen dogs were evaluated only by the owner. The mean (+/- SE) owner scores for pruritus, erythema, and lesions with placebo treatment (higher score = worse signs) were 3.24 (+/- 0.12), 2.73 (+/- 0.12), and 2.61 (+/- 0.09), respectively. With drug treatment, the corresponding scores were 2.89 (+/- 0.12), 2.50 (+/- 0.12), and 2.25 (+/- 0.09). Scores for pruritus and lesions (but not erythema) were significantly better with drug treatment than with placebo treatment. Investigator scores showed similar trends, but the differences were not great enough to be statistically significant. Overall, 11/29 (38%) owners reported their dogs had moderate or better improvement from drug capsules, and 4/29 dogs (14%) improved on placebo capsules. A variety of adverse effects were reported following both drug (9/29 dogs) and placebo (8/29 dogs) capsule administration, but were mild and well tolerated. Results of this study indicate that AHR-13268 has potential for empiric treatment of allergic inhalant dermatitis in some dogs. 相似文献

The short-term influence of adequate and high nitrogen fertilization on poplar lignification was investigated. The high nitrogen supply decreased lignin staining in the newly formed secondary xylem, indicating that lignin deposition was affected. Acetyl bromide determinations gave a 9-10% decrease in lignin content; however, Klason lignin content was unchanged. Thioacidolysis showed that elevated N supply affected lignin structure such that there was a reduced frequency of lignin units involved in beta-O-4 bonds, a reduced syringyl/guaiacyl ratio, an increased frequency of p-hydroxyphenyl lignin units, more guaiacyl units with free phenolic groups, and more p-hydroxybenzoic acid ester-linked to poplar lignins. These features suggest that lignins from poplars grown under high N bear structural similarities to lignins formed during early stages of wood development. The findings also indicate that a gravitational stimulus inducing the formation of tension wood and high N availability lead to similar and additive effects on lignin content and structure. 相似文献

Grass cell wall degradability is conventionally related to the lignin content and to the ferulic-mediated cross-linking of lignins to polysaccharides. To better understand the variations in degradability, 22 maize inbred lines were subjected to image analyses of Fasga- and M?ule-stained stem sections and to chemical analyses of lignins and p-hydroxycinnamic acids. For the first time, the nearness of biochemical and histological estimates of lignin levels was established. Combination of histological and biochemical traits could explain 89% of the variations for cell wall degradability and define a maize ideotype for cell wall degradability. In addition to a reduced lignin level, such an ideotype would contain lignins richer in syringyl than in guaiacyl units and preferentially localized in the cortical region rather than in the pith. Such enrichment in syringyl units would favor wall degradability in grasses, contrary to dicots, and could be related to the fact that grass syringyl units are noticeably p-coumaroylated. This might affect the interaction capabilities of lignins and polysaccharides. 相似文献

Quantum phases of matter are characterized by the underlying correlations of the many-body system. Although this is typically captured by a local order parameter, it has been shown that a broad class of many-body systems possesses a hidden nonlocal order. In the case of bosonic Mott insulators, the ground state properties are governed by quantum fluctuations in the form of correlated particle-hole pairs that lead to the emergence of a nonlocal string order in one dimension. By using high-resolution imaging of low-dimensional quantum gases in an optical lattice, we directly detect these pairs with single-site and single-particle sensitivity and observe string order in the one-dimensional case. 相似文献

This study reports on the destructuration of Wheat straw and Spruce wood cell walls after maceration in potassium carbonate or sodium hydroxide at pH = 10 in the presence of copper acetate. The alkaline treatments had a predominant impact on the wheat straw cell wall components over copper acetate. Either K-carbonate or Na-hydroxide extracted from wheat straw a particular lignin fraction rich in condensed C-C linkages, leading to the unmasking of new ether-linked sub-structures in the cell wall. This unmasking was increased in the presence of copper salt but only in the nonextracted Wheat straw sample incubated in carbonate and not in the corresponding extractive-free sample. This difference was related to the leaching of compounds from the nonextracted cell wall, which could sustain oxidative activity of copper by hindering its precipitation into inactive hydroxide and/or carbonate species. In Spruce wood samples, copper salt was the principal factor impacting on the lignin structure over alkali alone. Its effect was, however, only detected at the level of C-C linked dimers. These results confirmed that unmasking of lignin sub-structures also occurred in Spruce wood, but probably through mechanisms different from that evidenced in Wheat straw. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: The present study compared entomopathogenic nematode delivery at the base of savoy cabbage and cauliflower, at the lower side of savoy cabbage and cauliflower leaves and in leek stems and the ground deposition using a five‐nozzle spray boom equipped with an ISO 08 flat fan, an air induction flat fan and Twinjet spray nozzles. Additionally, an air support system and a row application system were evaluated. RESULTS: Approximately 40% of the applied nematodes did not reach the foot of the cabbage plants. The use of an air support system or a row application system improved nematode deposition at the savoy cabbage base. Relative nematode deposition on the lower side of savoy cabbage leaves was 27.20%, while only 2.64% of the applied nematodes reached the lower side of cauliflower leaves. After spraying leek with a standard boom, a low relative nematode deposition (26.64%) was measured in the leek stem. Nozzle type affected the distribution of nematodes in droplet spots. CONCLUSION: Nozzle type has a minor effect on the number of entomopathogenic nematodes delivered on difficult‐to‐reach targets. The use of modified spray application techniques directing the spray to the target site are necessary to increase the chances of contact of entomopathogenic nematodes with their target. Cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase (CAD) activity is deficient in loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) harboring a mutated allele of the cad gene (cad-n1). We compared lignin structure of CAD-deficient and wild-type pines, both types segregating within full-sib families obtained by controlled crosses. The type and frequency of lignin building units and distribution of interunit bonds were determined from the GC-MS analysis of thioacidolysis monomers and dimers. While the lignin content was only slightly reduced, the lignin structure was dramatically modified by the mutation in both mature and juvenile trees. Lignins from CAD-deficient pine displayed unusually high levels of coniferaldehyde and dihydroconiferyl alcohol. In addition, biphenyl and biphenyl ether bonds were in large excess in these abnormal lignins. These results suggest that the CAD-deficient pines efficiently compensate for the shortage in normal lignin precursors by utilizing nontraditional wall phenolics to construct unusual lignins particularly enriched in resistant interunit bonds. 相似文献
