Triple-phase bone scintigraphy was used to evaluate tissue viability in the forelimb of a dog after gunshot injury. This technique was reliable, noninvasive, and easily performed. It was used to complement radiography by providing functional, rather than structural, assessment of tissues on the basis of regional vascular patterns. In this dog, vascular impairment caused by trauma appeared as photopenic or "cold" spots during immediate (vascular), soft tissue and bone phases of the scintigraphic study. On the basis of gross morphologic and scintigraphic findings, forelimb amputation was performed.  相似文献

Enolpyruvylshikimate phosphate (EPSP) synthase activity has been measured in different organs of 1–14-day-old wheat seedlings growing in culture chambers. Enzyme activity was first detected after two days, and reached its maximum value at day 4. It remained almost unchanged for 14 days thereafter. During germination, one of the most important sources of enzyme was the seed scutellum. Later, the developed leaves contained 43% of the whole stock of enzyme. Although the enzyme distribution was not identical under light or in the dark, there was no evident light induction of EPSP synthase. High enzyme activity was found in the coleoptile, continuing for the whole life-time of this organ, and which might be associated with its lignification. Five to 40% of the total enzyme was found in the roots, reaching a maximum at 14 days. At this stage, glyphosate applied to the first grown leaf was phloem-transported to the sink organs, with no clear relationship being shown between EPSP synthase activity and herbicide quantity in each organ. At day 4, glyphosate treatment, by soaking the seedlings in the herbicide solution, was followed by an active phloem transport from the scutellum to the growing parts. The average internal concentration of radiolabelled compounds (glyphosate plus its possible derivatives) which induced wheat seedling growth decrease, was shown to reach 50 to 100 μM under our conditions.  相似文献

A comparative study of five populations of fishes: Siganus rivulatus (Forskal) and Siganus luridus (Ruppell) from both the Red Sea and Mediterranean Sea and Siganus argenteus (Quoy and Gaimard) from the Red Sea was carried out during 1972. The study included ecological and behavioural aspects that may have significance in determination of suitability of the species for aquaculture. Emphasis has been put on the behaviour, reproduction, availability of fry and resistance to changes in salinity levels.  相似文献

A stolbur‐type phytoplasma is the putative pathogen of grapevine yellows disease that causes economic damage to vineyards in most growing areas around the world. The pathogen is known to be transmitted to vines by two planthoppers, Hyalesthes obsoletus and Reptalus panzer; the latter is found in Europe but has not yet been observed in Israel. The establishment of a vector–pathogen–plant relationship requires that the pathogen and the vector meet on a shared host plant. This does not happen in the ecosystem examined here, where two different principal host plants for the obligate pathogen and its vector exist: the pathogen is established on vines, while its vector, H. obsoletus, develops on Vitex agnus‐castus. The present study verified that: (i) the vector cannot complete its life cycle on vines; (ii) V. agnus‐castus does not grow in the immediate vicinity of vines, and does not harbour the pathogen; and (iii) the pathogen is not vertically transmitted from mother to offspring. Moreover, in a thorough search of plants in vine growing areas, no other plants were found that host both the vector and the pathogen. However, it was found that the planthopper can acquire the phytoplasma from infected vines. Nonetheless, this does not prove the ability of the planthopper to further transmit the pathogen to vines and does not explain the presence of the vector on the non‐preferred vines. Thus, the enigma of the pathogen–vector–host triangle in this system remains unresolved.  相似文献

Toxic products extracted by methanol from intact mycelia ofVerticillium lecanii were tested for their toxicity to eggs, larvae, pupae and adults ofBemisia tabaci and additional insects. All stages ofB. tabaci were sensitive to the toxin, with larvae showing the highest, and adults the lowest, sensitivity. Using a 0.5% crude toxin preparation, the mortality rate ofB. tabaci was 88%, 53.5%, 53.2% and 37% for larvae, eggs, pupae and adults, respectively. High sensitivity of adults, which was characterized by rapid paralysis followed by death, was observed inB. tabaci, Myzus persicae, Aphis gossypii, Acyrthosiphon pisum andFrankliniella occidentalis. Other insects,viz., Heliothis peltigera, Maladera matrida, Carpophilus hemipterus andCeratitis capitata, exhibited significantly lower sensitivity. The toxin was partially purified by differential extraction with organic solvents and on silica gel H and Sephadex LH 20 columns. Based on the toxin inactivation by saponification and its mobility in a polar solvent on thin layer chromatography, it is suggested that the toxic products might be phospholipids.  相似文献

The present work concerns atrazine absorption and metabolism by corn (Zea mays.) seedlings immersed in an aqueous medium in comparison with Acer pseudoplatanus cell cultures. At the point of equilibrium, the apparent concentration inside the A. pseudoplatanus cells (with a moderate lipid content: 0·17% of dry weight) was about twice that of the medium. This equilibrium was probably due to a simple partition process; part of the atrazine was dissolved in the cell water and reached the same concentration as in the external medium while the rest was concentrated inside the cellular lipids. The theoretical calculation of the lipid/water partition, taking into account the value of log P measured not with the lipids but with octanol (log P=2·5), gave a value of 1·5 for concentration inside the plant material. Such an equilibrium, resulting from a partition process between water and lipids, was also obtained in non-living corn seedlings. In living seedlings, an over-concentration of radioactivity due to [14C]atrazine derivatives was rapidly obtained inside roots and shoots giving concentrations respectively 7- and 12-fold higher than that of atrazine in the external medium. This was due to very rapid chemical transformation of atrazine into its hydroxy derivatives, especially hydroxyatrazine. This hydrolysis of atrazine in corn was due to the presence of high levels of benzoxazinone derivatives in corn seedling cells. The hydroxylated metabolites were able to concentrate in the cells very rapidly and were unable to diffuse freely into the external medium. As a consequence, this process facilitated the penetration of large quantities of atrazine which became rapidly hydroxylated, allowing therefore the passive penetration of atrazine to be further improved, since the concentration C1 in the receiver compartment was always close to zero.
