We compared arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) and dark septate endophyte (DSE) fungal associations in 2 crops and 31 weeds commonly occurring in pulp and paper mill effluent irrigated and well-water irrigated soils. Soil pH, organic C, N, P and K, were higher in pulp and paper mill effluent irrigated than in well-water irrigated soils. In contrast, the average AM fungal colonization, root length with AM fungal hyphae/hyphal coils, spore numbers and diversity were lower in pulp and paper mill effluent irrigated soils compared to well-water irrigated soils. However, no significant variation was found in DSE fungal colonization nor root length with AM fungal arbuscules/arbusculate coils and vesicles between pulp and paper mill effluent irrigated and well-water irrigated soils. A significant negative correlation existed between AM and DSE fungal colonization in both effluent and well-water irrigated soils. Twelve AM fungal spore morphotypes belonging to Acaulospora, Dentiscutata, Glomus, Racocetra and Scutellospora were isolated from the well-water irrigated soils, whereas spores of six morphotypes were isolated from effluent irrigated soils. AM fungal spore numbers were correlated significantly and positively to AM fungal colonization in effluent and well-water irrigated soils.  相似文献

We conducted a study to find out if arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi (Acaulospora scrobiculata, Scutellospora calospora) and phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB, Paenibacillus polymyxa) inoculation either individually or in combinations can improve Acacia auriculiformis seedling growth, uptake of nutrients and quality in a phosphorus deficient tropical Alfisol. The seedlings were assessed for various growth and nutrient uptake parameters after 60 days of treatment. Inoculation with P. polymyxa stimulated mycorrhizal formation. Seedling height, stem girth, taproot length, number of leaves and leaf area, plant dry matter production, nodulation, and nodular dry weight were significantly higher for seedlings that were either dual inoculated or triple inoculated compared to individual inoculation of AM fungi or PSB, and uninoculated seedlings. Dual and triple application of AM fungi and PSB also significantly improved the nutrient contents of shoots and roots and nutrient uptake efficiencies. The calculated seedling quality indexes of the AM fungi and PSB inoculated seedling were 25–208% higher than uninoculated seedlings. These findings show that A. auriculiformis seedlings when dual inoculated or triple inoculated performed better than seedlings inoculated with the microbes individually and compared with uninoculated control seedlings. We conclude that bioinoculation is important for the production of high-quality A. auriculiformis seedlings in tree nurseries for planting in nutrient deficient soils.  相似文献

The synthesis of two new phthalocyanine precursors 4-(3-(piperidin-1-yl)phenoxy) with mono (2) and trichloro (3) substituents were carried out in this work. Cyclotetramerization of these precursors with zinc acetate gave novel tetrakis-4-(3-(piperidin-1-yl)phenoxy) with tetra (4) and dodecachloro (5) substituted zinc phthalocyanines. The synthesized new compounds were characterized using FT-IR, 1H NMR, electronic absorption spectroscopy, mass spectra and elemental analysis. The aggregation behavior of zinc phthalocyanines 4 and 5 was investigated in different concentrations of dichloromethane (DCM). Zinc phthalocyanines 4 and 5 showed good solubility in different organic solvents such as DCM, CHCl3, THF, benzene and toluene. Further, the aggregation behavior of zinc phthalocyanines 4 and 5 was studied before and after the addition of Triton X100. Further, the fluorescence quantum yields of zinc phthalocyanines 4 and 5 were calculated in the presence and absence of Triton X100.  相似文献

Native virus-plant interactions require more understanding and their study will provide a basis from which to identify potential sources of emerging destructive viruses in crops. A novel tymovirus sequence was detected in Asclepias viridis (green milkweed), a perennial growing in a natural setting in the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve (TGPP) of Oklahoma. It was abundant within and frequent among A. viridis plants and, to varying extents, within other dicotyledonous and one grass (Panicum virgatum) species obtained from the TGPP. Extracts from A. viridis containing the sequence were infectious to a limited number of species. The virus genome was cloned and determined to be closely related to Kennedya yellow mosaic virus. The persistence of the virus within the Oklahoma A. viridis population was monitored for five successive years. Virus was present in a high percentage of plants within representative areas of the TGPP in all years and was spreading to additional plants. Virus was present in regions adjacent to the TGPP but not in plants sampled from central and south-central Oklahoma. Virus was present in the underground caudex of the plant during the winter, suggesting overwintering in this tissue. The RNA sequence encoding the virus coat protein varied considerably between individual plants (≈3%), likely due to drift rather than selection. An infectious clone was constructed and the virus was named Asclepias asymptomatic virus (AsAV) due to the absence of obvious symptoms on A. viridis.  相似文献

 The interaction of plant nutrients, root-soluble carbohydrate availability and arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi was examined in field grown cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.]. Plant nutrients were altered through application of farmyard (cow dung, sheep manure) and green (sunnhemp, pongamia) manures. Organic amendments increased plant growth, AM fungal colonization, soluble carbohydrate concentration in roots, and spore numbers. Percent total colonization, root length with vesicles and spore numbers in soil were negatively correlated with the concentration of soluble carbohydrates within roots, which in turn were related to tissue nutrient levels. However, a positive correlation existed between soluble carbohydrate concentrations within root and root length with arbuscules. But the mycorrhizal parameters were related more to plant nutrient level and their ratios, indicating that tissue nutrients have another level of control in addition to their effect on soluble carbohydrate concentration in roots. Increased AM colonization due to organic amendment significantly reduced nutrient imbalances. The strong relationship between colonization and root-soluble carbohydrate concentration levels validates the basic assumption that mycorrhizal fungi act as a 'strong sink' for photosynthates. This study indicates that the host influences AM colonization by regulating the formation of AM fungal structures and spore formation via availability of root carbohydrates. A survey on the endorhizal status of 39 fruit crops of 25 families, indicated that 22 fruit crops had arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM)–, four had dark septate endophyte (DSE)–fungal association, and 13 had dual colonization of AM and DSE fungi. Fruit crops were capable of forming Arum‐, Paris‐, or intermediate‐types of AM morphologies of which intermediate‐type was common. To our knowledge, we report for the first time AM in 10 fruit crops and DSE‐fungal association in 17 fruit crops. The extent of AM‐ and DSE‐fungal colonization ranged from 41% to 98% and < 1% to 89.9%, respectively, in different fruit crops. Arbuscular mycorrhizal–fungal spore numbers in the rhizosphere ranged from 6 to 61 spores per 25 g of soil. Arbuscular mycorrhizal–fungal spores belonging to Acaulospora, Glomus, and Scutellospora were isolated from the rhizosphere soil.  相似文献

Vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizae in tropical sedges of southern India   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6  
Twenty-four species of sedges (representing six genera) from different vegetation types in Western Ghats, South India, were examined for vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) associations. All the sedges had VAM fungal infections with hyphae and vesicles, but arbuscules were observed only in 42% of the total species. The VAM fungal colonization varied considerably between species, ranging from 9 to 62%. Root colonization was positively and negatively correlated with root diameter and root hair length, respectively. The number of VAM fungal spores in the rhizosphere varied from 5 to 86 g-1 soil. No significant relationship was found between spore numbers or root colonization and either soil pH or moisture. Four Glomus spp., one Acaulospora sp., one Sclerocystis spp., and one Gigaspora sp. were identified among the VAM fungal spores. The results reflect a high incidence of VAM in sedges occurring in Western Ghats and emphasize the need to assess the VAM status of plant species from different ecosystems to understand their mycorrhizal status.  相似文献

We studied spore populations of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi, mycorrhiza formation, and the growth and yield of cowpea [ Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp] grown in soils amended with sunnhemp ( Crotalaria juncea L.), pongamia [ Pongamia pinnata (L.) Pierre], cow dung and sheep manure. Spore populations and colonization of cowpea roots by AM fungi were higher in soils amended with organic manure than in non-amended soils. The effects of organic amendment on cowpea growth, nutrient uptake and yield varied with the type of organic amendment. These responses to organic amendment were strongly related to changes in AM colonization levels and spore populations. Cowpea growth and yield were positively related to spore populations of Glomus aggregatum , G. geosporum and Scutellospora calospora , but were negatively correlated to spore populations of Acaulospora scrobiculata and G. sinuosum . We suggest that changes in the growth and yield of cowpea in response to organic amendment are a result of the differential effects of the types of amendment on the proliferation of different AM fungi within the community.  相似文献

Silent oestrus is an unsurmountable problem in the management of buffalo reproduction. In addressing this issue, we have earlier reported variation in the levels of urinary luteinizing hormone (LH) through the different phases of oestrous cycle with an extended window during the mid-oestrous phase. Based on this report, the present study is designed to assess the salivary LH levels in buffalo during the different phases of oestrous cycle. Bovine LH ELISA kit was used to determine the level of salivary LH. We observed a notable variation in salivary LH levels during the different phases of oestrous cycle. The maximum LH level, 39.07 mIU/ml, observed during oestrus, which was significantly (p < .05) higher than other consecutive phases. Altogether, the results showed a significant (p < .05) fold variation during oestrus compared with other phases. Therefore, the study convincingly shows that salivary LH has the potential of application in development of a modality for non-invasive oestrous detection in buffalo.  相似文献
