We reported the involvement of oxidative stress and prostaglandins including thromboxane and prostacyclin in pre-cardiac edema (early edema) caused by 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD). While the involvement of oxidative stress in TCDD-induced toxicity has been frequently reported, the mechanism of its action is still unclear. In the present study, oxidative stress inducers including paraquat, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and rotenone augmented early edema (edema) induced by a low concentration of TCDD (0.1 ppb) at 55 hr post fertilization (hpf), while each of them alone did not cause edema. Edema caused by TCDD plus oxidative stress inducers was almost abolished by antioxidants, an antagonist for thromboxane receptor (ICI-192,605) and an agonist for prostacyclin receptor (beraprost), suggesting that the site of action of these inducers was in the regular signaling pathway after activation of aryl hydrocarbon receptor type 2 (AHR2) by TCDD. Oxidative stress inducers also enhanced edema caused by an agonist for the thromboxane receptor (U46619), and the enhancement was also inhibited by antioxidants. Sulforaphane and auranofin, activators of Nrf2 that is a master regulator of anti-oxidative response, did not affect U46619-evoked edema but almost abolished TCDD-induced edema and potentiation by paraquat in both TCDD- and U46619-induced edema. Taken together, the results suggest that oxidative stress augments pre-cardiac edema caused by TCDD via activation of thromboxane receptor-mediated signaling in developing zebrafish. As paraquat and other oxidative stress inducers used also are environmental pollutants, interaction between dioxin-like compounds and exogenous source of oxidative stress should also be considered. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: To evaluate the stocking effectiveness of the kuruma prawn Penaeus japonicus , a two-stage sampling survey of Gensiki bottom-drift-netters was carried out in Ariake Sound, Saga Prefecture, Japan. A total of 471 000 hatchery-produced juveniles, marked by cutting off the right uropods, was released. Thirty-three fishing days were randomly drawn from four boats, which were selected from the 80 boats operating in the fishery. All prawns caught on the selected days were examined, and the hatchery-produced individuals were identified by their regenerated uropods. A telephone survey of all boats was also conducted, to determine the number of fishing days. A total of 286 marked prawns were caught on the survey days for the Saga area in Ariake Sound, from the last half of July to the first half of September 2002. The recapture rate and standard error were estimated at 0.76 ± 0.52%. Economic efficiency was estimated at 0.28 ± 0.02. Strategies for sampling schemes and stock recovery are also discussed. 相似文献

Tetraethylammonium chloride, which is believed to decrease potassium conductance, and tetrodotoxin, which apparently decreases sodium conductance in nerve fibers, were introduced iontophoretically into the organ of Corti or the scala media of guinea pig cochlea. The former depressed the direct-current endocochlear potential and also the alternating-current cochlear microphonics (the receptor potential of the ear), but tetrodotoxin was ineffective except on the nerve impulses. 相似文献

A review of seed production and stock enhancement for commercially important portunid crabs in Japan

We reviewed the present status of seed production for stock enhancement and evaluated the impact of stocking on commercial
catches in Japan, of portunid crabs particularly Portunus trituberculatus and Scylla paramamosain. The mean survival rate from hatching to first-stage crabs was around 10%, and 20–30% of the larval culture trials conducted
in recent years could not harvest juveniles during seed production. To achieve reliable mass seed production technologies,
measures for controlling disease and the nutritional condition of larvae in seed production tanks are required to be developed.
The main spawning season extends from April/May to July. Reflecting their life cycle characteristics such as high growth rates,
crabs recruit to the fishery after September and largely contribute to the commercial landings until December in the hatching
year. The main release season of juveniles is from June to July. Consequently, released juveniles are expected to contribute
to commercial landings in the release year. Analyses of catch and release statistics in two small bays estimated the yield
from released individuals (YPR, yield per release) at 2.4 g for P. trituberculatus and 3.3–7.7 g for S. paramamosain, which were similar to values reported from tagging surveys. On a major regional basis, catch and release histories of P. trituberculatus highlighted the impact of hatchery releases on commercial landings as 33.6 g YPR in the Seto Inland Sea, where catches and
releases have been greatest. Although the YPR estimates were different between small bays and major regional seas, Japanese
stock enhancement programmes should have had an impact on portunid crab production, dependent on the magnitude of the releases. 相似文献

The fishery biology of mud crabs Scylla spp. was examined using baited traps and gill nets from September 2001 to August 2005 at Iriomote Island, Japan. To elucidate
the growth of the crabs, artificially produced S. serrata juveniles were released and recaptured at the study site. The sizes at which 50% of females and males of S. serrata reached sexual maturity (SM50) were estimated as an external carapace width (ECW) based on the morphology of the abdomen and the chela respectively. Two
species, S. serrata and S. olivacea, were identified in the area with S. serrata being the dominant species (>95% of the catch). Changes in the mean ECW and the results of the release and recapture experiments
suggested that the recruitment of young crabs to the fishery occurred from December/January to April/May. The SM50 of females and males occurred at 132.4 and 150.7 mm ECW respectively. The body size composition of S. serrata revealed that immature crabs comprised approximately 40 and 65% of the catch for females and males respectively. To maintain
a sustainable fishery for S. serrata, a minimum landing size based on the SM50 estimates should be implemented as a fishing regulation. 相似文献

Various invertebrates inhabiting hydrothermal vents harbor thiotrophic endosymbionts that provide the host with nutrients
and are possibly involved in the detoxification of harmful sulfides. In this study, we first determined the partial 16S rRNA
gene sequence of the thiotrophic symbiont of the deep-sea mussel Bathymodiolus septemdierum, a dominant species at hydrothermal vents in the Izu–Ogasawara (Bonin) area. We then designed a new probe, Bsob692, for fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) using regions completely conserved among thiotrophic symbionts of all
bathymodiolin mussels and established the protocol for FISH to compare the distribution and amount of the symbiont using an
image analysis program that is commercially available. We compared fluorescent intensity in the gill of the mussels collected
at different sites and found a higher intensity in specimens collected from a site with higher sulfide concentration. We also
compared mussels reared in the presence and absence of sulfide and found that the former had a higher fluorescent intensity. 相似文献

A nitrogen balance study was carried out by setting up a test paddy in order to estimate the nitrogen pollution load potential
(NPLP) from farmland in the Tedori River Alluvial Fan Areas and the load from the entire area under consideration was estimated
using the cropping record and fertilizer application rate (FAR). The total NPLP was estimated to be 261 tons/year and the
load from the paddy 79 tons/year for 5,704 ha, which would translate to an intensity of 14 kg/ha, while the load from the
vegetable field was estimated to be 118 tons/year for 215 ha, which would equate to an intensity of 549 kg/ha. The pollution
loads for the vegetables were significantly greater than those for the rice. The load for the barley was 57 tons/year for
261 ha (216 kg/ha) and that for the orchards was 23 tons/year for 64 ha (359 kg/ha). The estimation of soybean load was a
negative 15 tons/year for 717 ha (−21 kg/ha), which meant that the nitrogen in the yield was greater than the FAR. The results
also confirmed the yield absorption ratio in relation to the FAR. The load from the paddy for the entire area was also estimated
using the percolation rate and the water quality load underneath the farmland was estimated to be 89 tons/year. 相似文献

Methane-oxidizing bacteria (MOB, methanotrophs) limit the flux of methane to the atmosphere from sediments and soils, and consume atmospheric methane (King 1992; Oremland and Culbertson 1992). IPCC (1995) reported that an aerobic soil is equivalent to a sink of 10–20% of methane emissions. Hence MOB play an important role in regulating the atmospheric methane content (Mancinelli 1995). Over the last 20y, although a large amount of information has been supplied on the biochemistry of MOB, few ecological investigations have been devoted to them so far (Holzapfel-Pschorn et al. 1985; Oremland and Culbertson 1992). 相似文献

Abstract Quantitative characterization of crusts is necessary to evaluate the crusting susceptibility of soils, to reveal the soil properties affecting soil crust development and, thus, to predict the occurrence of crusting. Sporotrichosis is a mycosis caused by Sporothrix schenckii. The most affected animal is the cat; it has played an important role in the zoonotic transmission of this disease, especially in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, since 1998. In order to evaluate the treatment of feline sporotrichosis with potassium iodide, an observational cohort was conducted in 48 cats with sporotrichosis at Instituto de Pesquisa Clínica Evandro Chagas, Fiocruz. All cats received potassium iodide capsules, 2.5 mg/kg to 20 mg/kg q24h. The cure rate was 47.9%, treatment failure was 37.5%, treatment abandonment was 10.4% and death was 4.2%. Clinical adverse effects were observed in 52.1% of the cases. Thirteen cats had a mild increase in hepatic transaminase levels during the treatment, six of them presented clinical signs suggestive of hepatotoxicity. Compared to previous studies with itraconazole and iodide in saturated solution, potassium iodide capsules are an alternative for feline sporotrichosis treatment. 相似文献
