Microalgae are well known for their biotechnological potential, namely with regard to bioactive lipidic components—especially carotenoids and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), well-known for therapeutic applications based on their antioxidant capacity. The aim of this work was to evaluate the influence of four distinct food-grade solvents upon extractability of specific lipidic components, and on the antioxidant capacity exhibited against both synthetic (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2′-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS+•)) and biological reactive species (O2 and NO). A eukaryotic microalga (Scenedesmus obliquus (M2-1)) and a prokaryotic one (Gloeothece sp.) were used as case studies. Concerning total antioxidant capacity, the hexane:isopropanol (3:2) and acetone extracts of Sc. obliquus (M2-1) were the most effective against DPPH and ABTS+•, respectively. Gloeothece sp. ethanol extracts were the most interesting scavengers of O2, probably due the high content of linolenic acid. On the other hand, acetone and hexane:isopropanol (3:2) extracts were the most interesting ones in NO assay. Acetone extract exhibited the best results for the ABTS assay, likely associated to its content of carotenoids, in both microalgae. Otherwise, ethanol stood out in PUFA extraction. Therefore, profiles of lipidic components extracted are critical for evaluating the antioxidant performance—which appears to hinge, in particular, on the balance between carotenoids and PUFAs.  相似文献

Vibrio vulnificus biotype 2 is subdivided into two main serovars, serovar E, able to infect fish and humans, and serovar A, only virulent for fish. Serovar E emerged in 1976 as the causative agent of a haemorrhagic septicaemia (warm‐water vibriosis) affecting eels cultured in brackish water. Serovar A emerged in 2000 in freshwater‐cultured eels vaccinated against serovar E, causing warm‐water vibriosis with fish showing a haemorrhagic intestine as the main differential sign. The aim of the present work was to compare the disease caused by both serovars in terms of transmission routes, portals of entry and host range. Results of bath, patch‐contact and oral‐anal challenges demonstrated that both serovars spread through water and infect healthy eels, serovar A entering mainly by the anus and serovar E by the gills. The course of the disease under laboratory conditions was similar for both serovars in terms of transmission and dependence of degree of virulence on water parameters (temperature and salinity). However, the decrease in degree of virulence in fresh water was significantly greater in serovar E than in serovar A. Finally, both serovars proved pathogenic for tilapia, sea bass and rainbow trout, but not for sea bream, with significant differences in degree of virulence only in rainbow trout. In conclusion, serovar A seems to represent a new antigenic form of V. vulnificus biotype 2 with an unusual portal of entry and is better adapted to fresh water than serovar E.  相似文献

The essential elements: calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na) potassium (K) and phosphorus (P) were analyzed in fresh asparagus to determine the effect of the ripening of the asparagus on the mineral content. Asparagus samples were classified in two groups by diameter (<11 mm and >14 mm). Asparagus from a sample group with the same diameter were divided into two portions (apical and basal) according to distance from the tip. The concentrations of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus increased with the ripening process of the asparagus while the content of sodium decreased when the white asparagus turned into a green ripening state. No significant differences were established for potassium. The green ripening state was the group with the greater concentration of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. Statistically significant differences (p<0.001) were observed between portions of asparagus (tip and rest of stem) in the contents of the five mineral elements analyzed. The levels of mineral elements investigated increased notably in the tip of the asparagus with the exception of sodium and potassium of which the levels in the apical portion decreased or hardly modified. The variance analyses determined statistically significant differences (p<0.001) in the concentration of magnesium, sodium and phosphorus between asparagus diameters (<11 and >14 mm) and no significant differences (p>0.05) were found for calcium and potassium. The mean element levels were (mg/kg dry weight): Ca=3240±1186; Mg=1818±490; Na=368±86; K=37297±4167 and P=6809±2491.  相似文献
