Two cases of fatal cryptococcosis are described, one of Cryptococcus neoformans infection in a Gilbert's potoroo (Potorous gilbertii) and one of Cryptococcus gattii infection in a long-nosed potoroo (Potorous tridactylus). The diagnoses were confirmed by culture and specific immunohistochemistry, respectively. The long-nosed potoroo tested positive using the latex cryptococcal antigen test (LCAT), whereas the Gilbert's potoroo had a negative LCAT result despite having advanced disease of some duration. In both cases, the clinical presentation was a progressive neurologic disease associated with a central nervous system infection. Pulmonary infection was also observed in the long-nosed potoroo. Specific treatment with antifungal agents was unsuccessful in the long-nosed potoroo. 相似文献

Mineral properties in Earth's lower mantle are affected by iron electronic states, but representative pressures and temperatures have not yet been probed. Spin states of iron in lower-mantle ferropericlase have been measured up to 95 gigapascals and 2000 kelvin with x-ray emission in a laser-heated diamond cell. A gradual spin transition of iron occurs over a pressure-temperature range extending from about 1000 kilometers in depth and 1900 kelvin to 2200 kilometers and 2300 kelvin in the lower mantle. Because low-spin ferropericlase exhibits higher density and faster sound velocities relative to the high-spin ferropericlase, the observed increase in low-spin (Mg,Fe)O at mid-lower mantle conditions would manifest seismically as a lower-mantle spin transition zone characterized by a steeper-than-normal density gradient. 相似文献

The boundary layer between the crystalline silicate lower mantle and the liquid iron core contains regions with ultralow seismic velocities. Such low compressional and shear wave velocities and high Poisson's ratio are also observed experimentally in post-perovskite silicate phase containing up to 40 mol% FeSiO3 endmember. The iron-rich post-perovskite silicate is stable at the pressure-temperature and chemical environment of the core-mantle boundary and can be formed by core-mantle reaction. Mantle dynamics may lead to further accumulation of this material into the ultralow-velocity patches that are observable by seismology. 相似文献

A standardized extract of red orange juice (ROE) was shown to inhibit proliferation of fibroblast and epithelial prostate cells. A splendid tree frog (Pelodryas splendida) presented with subcutaneous edema extending along its dorsum from head to vent, which resolved with improvement of ambient temperature and humidity conditions in its enclosure. Four months later, this same frog presented in a moribund state with intracoelomic fluid accumulation. An intestinal adenocarcinoma, a rarely reported neoplasm in amphibians, was diagnosed post mortem. Neoplasia is one of a number of causes of edema syndrome, which is a nonspecific response to disease and debility in anurans. 相似文献

We studied the influence of silica and glass fibers on the properties of polyester non-woven padding, fixing interesting changes in thermoinsulation, thickness and stiffness of obtained composites. It was found that the combination of inorganic and polyester fibers allowed for obtaining improved thermoinsulating property, compared to non-woven materials based on individual fibers. The improvement is attributed to the enhanced reflectance and the decreased air permeability, which can reduce the heat lost through radiation and convection. The application of inorganic fibers also made the development of non-woven materials with small thickness, keeping thermoinsulating property similar or better, compared to the commonly used polyester non-woven padding. Furthermore, the designed non-woven composites in real models of winter jackets were evaluated in a climate chamber at -10 °C by infrared thermal camera. The results showed that the addition of inorganic fibers allowed the surface temperature of winter jackets more than 5 °C lower than that of winter jacket with pure polyester padding. They significantly enhanced the protection from cold and reduced heat loss from the human body. 相似文献

The present study aimed to develop a methodology using capillary electrophoresis for the determination of sinapaldehyde, syringaldehyde, coniferaldehyde, and vanillin in whiskey samples. The main objective was to obtain a screening method to differentiate authentic samples from seized samples suspected of being false using the phenolic aldehydes as chemical markers. The optimized background electrolyte was composed of 20 mmol L(-1) sodium tetraborate with 10% MeOH at pH 9.3. The study examined two kinds of sample stacking, using a long-end injection mode: normal sample stacking (NSM) and sample stacking with matrix removal (SWMR). In SWMR, the optimized injection time of the samples was 42 s (SWMR42); at this time, no matrix effects were observed. Values of r were >0.99 for the both methods. The LOD and LOQ were better than 100 and 330 mg mL(-1) for NSM and better than 22 and 73 mg L(-1) for SWMR. The CE-UV reliability in the aldehyde analysis in the real sample was compared statistically with LC-MS/MS methodology, and no significant differences were found, with a 95% confidence interval between the methodologies. 相似文献
