An effective subunit vaccine against feline leukemia virus infection and related diseases has been developed. The source of the vaccine immunogen is feline retrovirus persistently infected cells that continuously synthesize and shed virus polypeptides. Western blot analysis identifies FeLV-gp70, p27, p15, p12, and p10 in the subunit vaccine preparation. Cats immunized with the vaccine developed antibodies to a 70,000 MW protein of the vaccine that seems to be distinct from, but related to the FeLV-gp70 polypeptide. 相似文献

The association between high malting quality and pre-harvest sprouting (PHS) susceptibility is a key challenge when developing new malting barley varieties. A new malting barley variety Baudin has successfully combined high malting quality and PHS tolerance. A doubled haploid population was developed for mapping PHS tolerance and seed dormancy from a cross of Baudin?×?AC Metcalfe using 233 molecular markers. Three QTLs were mapped for seed dormancy based on the standard germination test at 24, 48 and 72?h. One major QTL was mapped to the long arm of chromosome 5H controlling seed dormancy and PHS tolerance from Baudin. Two other minor QTLs were identified from Baudin on chromosomes 3 and 7H. QTL/QTL interaction was detected for seed dormancy between chromosomes 3 and 5H. The PHS tolerance allele of the 5H QTL from Baudin contributes to higher malt yield without significant impact on diastatic power, beta-glucan content and wort viscosity. A dog with oliguric acute renal failure presumed to have been caused by ethylene glycol ingestion was treated by hemodialysis for 1 month. Hemodialysis was effective in controlling azotemia, hyperphosphatemia, and hyperkalemia when performed on a daily or alternate-day basis. The major complications during treatment were infection and severe weight loss. Serial renal biopsies disclosed a progression from initial acute tubular necrosis to severe diffuse interstitial fibrosis and mononuclear cell inflammation. Infection, cachexia, development of end-stage renal lesions, and terminal hyperkalemia contributed to the eventual death of the dog. 相似文献

REASONS FOR PERFORMING STUDY: Horses vaccinated against common agents of infectious upper respiratory disease (IURD) may not have detectable serum antibody and may not be protected from clinical disease. OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to 1) investigate the serological response of horses to vaccination against influenza virus (H3N8 and H7N7) and equine herpesviruses (EHV) in a field setting and 2) evaluate associations among vaccination status, serum antibody concentrations, and occurrences of IURD in monitored horses. METHODS: In this study, horses on 6 Colorado premises were vaccinated parenterally against influenza virus and EHV, and serological response evaluated. Horses were monitored, and biological samples collected from individuals with clinical IURD and control horses. RESULTS: Of 173 horses, 61 (35.3%), 21 (12.1%) and 4 (2.3%) seroconverted in response to vaccination against EHV, influenza virus H7N7 and influenza virus H3N8, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Outbreaks of IURD in study horses were associated with influenza virus H3N8 and Streptococcus equi infection, and serological response to vaccination with conventional products was poor. POTENTIAL RELEVANCE: These results confirm that horses may not respond with detectable serological responses to conventional vaccination against common respiratory viruses and, therefore, suggest that alternate methods of protecting horses against common respiratory viruses should be sought. 相似文献

The Alberes population is a native bovine breed of Catalonia with an unclear origin, which historically some authors have assumed as being composed of two different colour varieties (black and fawn). Sixteen microsatellite loci were analysed, all of them included in the AIRE2066 European Concerted Action list. Overall expected and observed heterozygosities reached values of 0.649 and 0.662, respectively. Genetic differences among black and fawn varieties were not significant (FST = 0.007), and therefore the population is a single variety with a great colour gradation. On the contrary, we detected significant genetic differences among herds (FST = 0.026; p < 0.001), showing a genetic heterogeneity over short geographical distances. The number of migrants per generation among pairs of herds oscillates between 1.46 (Roig and Freixe herds) and 5.62 (Castanyers and Roig herds). Moreover, inbreeding and bottleneck situations can be rejected. The Alberes breed has been grouped within the Cantabrian trunk, closely related to the Asturiana de la Montaña and Alistana breeds, although some other breeds may also have influenced the population along its history. 相似文献
