Background, Aim and Scope

Most of the cathment areas supplying water and mineral matter to the Adriatic bays with healing mud/peloids are affected by various degrees of human impact, i.e. activity that is introducing various types of contaminants to environment. The bays represent shallow marine depositional environments where organic-rich sediments accumulate. Investigations for balneological characterization of several localities along the Croatian coast have shown that these organic-rich sediments may be classified as healing mud, i.e. peloids. Healing mud due to its balneologic features is in treatment of various diseases and in improvement of the overall health conditions and general well-being. Various components of mud, particularly trace elements, could be absorbed through dermal contact. Therefore, the study of the abundance of such potentially toxic elements as As, Pb, Hg, Cd, Se, Sb, Cu, Zn in marine sediments used as healing mud is necessary in order to know their mobility and to avoid possible intoxications.  相似文献

The role of vegetation in preventing shallow soil mass movement is now fairly well understood, particularly at the individual plant level. However, how soil is reinforced on a larger scale and the influence of changes in vegetation over time has rarely been investigated. Therefore we carried out a study on the temporal and spatial changes within stands of Cryptomeria japonica D. Don, growing in the Sichuan province of China, an area where shallow landslides are frequent.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to develop diallel population hybrids by crossing selected germplasm and to determine the gene effects and genetic control of yield and yield components using diallel analysis. A complete diallel including reciprocals was made during 2003 and 2004 between five alfalfa cultivars of different geographic origin. For each pairwise cross, five plants were chosen at random from each of the two cultivars (~100 florets per plant) to obtain the F1 generation. A spaced plant field was established in 2006 which included the five alfalfa cultivars (parents) and their 20 diallel hybrids (F1). The results of the diallel analysis suggest that the genetic control of major agronomic traits is determined by both additive gene action (accumulation of frequency of desirable alleles represented by significant GCA effects) and nonadditive gene action (complementary gene interactions represented by significant SCA effects). This type of gene action expression in alfalfa also determines the way in which breeding is carried out and brings about changes in the methods used and has given rise to the idea of the semi-hybrid breeding of this crop. The concept involves: breeding alfalfas within the population, identification of heterotic germplasm, and the production of seed of the population hybrid (PH).  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To measure the angles between the patellar ligament and the tibial plateau and between the patellar ligament and the common tangent at the tibiofemoral contact point (TFCP) in stifle joints of dogs with partial rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament (CrCL) for comparison with data obtained for stifle joints in dogs with intact CrCLs. SAMPLE POPULATION: 60 stifle joints of 54 dogs with surgically confirmed partial CrCL rupture. PROCEDURES: Mediolateral radiographic views of the stifle joints were obtained, and the angles between the patellar ligament and the conventionally defined tibial plateau (angle gamma) and between the patellar ligament and the common tangent to the TFCP (angle alpha) were measured at incidental stifle joint flexion (angle beta) by 2 independent observers. Data underwent linear regression analysis and were compared with findings in joints of dogs without degenerative joint disease. RESULTS: In stifle joints of dogs with a partial rupture of the CrCL, angles gamma and alpha were 5 degrees and 2 degrees larger than each corresponding angle in healthy canine joints. At 100 degrees of flexion, the patellar ligament was perpendicular to the conventionally defined tibial plateau. At 110 degrees of flexion, the patellar ligament was perpendicular to the common tangent at the TFCP. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: In dogs, stifle joints with partially ruptured CrCLs have marginally larger angles between the patellar ligament and the tibial plateau, compared with joints with intact CrCLs; at equivalent angles of flexion, comparatively greater shear force affects the CrCLs in stifle joints with partial CrCL ruptures.  相似文献

Tying knots and linking microscopic loops of polymers, macromolecules, or defect lines in complex materials is a challenging task for material scientists. We demonstrate the knotting of microscopic topological defect lines in chiral nematic liquid-crystal colloids into knots and links of arbitrary complexity by using laser tweezers as a micromanipulation tool. All knots and links with up to six crossings, including the Hopf link, the Star of David, and the Borromean rings, are demonstrated, stabilizing colloidal particles into an unusual soft matter. The knots in chiral nematic colloids are classified by the quantized self-linking number, a direct measure of the geometric, or Berry's, phase. Forming arbitrary microscopic knots and links in chiral nematic colloids is a demonstration of how relevant the topology can be for the material engineering of soft matter.  相似文献

On the territory of Serbia, the Cornelian cherry (Cornus mas L.) populations grow at different locations and on a variety of geological substrates and they represent a large and important genetic potential for use in breeding programs of this fruit species. Collection and study of Cornelian cherry genotypes, introduction of best selections in commercial production, and preservation of genetic variability are activities that could improve the existing fruit gene pool. In the Vojvodina Province, over 200 Cornelian cherry genotypes have been monitored at all stages of growth and development. Large variability has been observed in all morphological and chemical characteristics under study. This paper deals with 10 Cornelian cherry genotypes, which showed best morphological characteristics in a three-year study (2007–2009), which will be used for the development of standard Cornelian cherry varieties in Serbia.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To measure the angles between the patellar ligament and the tibial plateau and between the patellar ligament and the common tangent at the tibiofemoral contact point (TFCP) throughout the full range of motion of the stifle joint in dogs and determine the flexion angles at which the patellar ligament is perpendicular to the tibial plateau or to the common tangent. SAMPLE POPULATION: 16 hind limbs from cadavers of 9 adult dogs without radiographically detectable degenerative joint disease. PROCEDURES: Mediolateral radiographic views of the stifle joints from full extension through full flexion were obtained (10 degrees increments). Angles between the tibial and femoral long axes (beta), between the patellar ligament and the tibial plateau gamma), and between the patellar ligament and the common tangent at TFCP (alpha) were measured. Data were analyzed via simple linear regression. RESULTS: In canine stifle joints, angles gamma and alpha decreased linearly with increasing flexion (angle beta). The patellar ligament was perpendicular to the tibial plateau and perpendicular to the common tangent at the TFCP at 90 degrees and 110 degrees of flexion, respectively. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: By use of the conventionally defined tibial plateau, data suggest that at approximately 90 degrees of flexion in stifle joints of dogs, shear force in the sagittal plane exerted on the proximal portion of the tibia shifts the loading from the cranial to the caudal cruciate ligament. Analyses involving the common tangent at the TFCP (a more anatomically representative reference point) identified this crossover point at approximately 110 degrees of joint flexion.  相似文献
