A comparison was made of the response to storage temperatures (0–17°C) of grapefruit ‘Shamouti’ and ‘Valencia’ oranges, and lemon fruit. There was no chilling injury (CI) and the incidence of rot was relatively low at 12°C or higher for all cultivars. At low storage temperatures, however, pitting and subsequent rot development in grapefruit and in ‘Shamouti’ and ‘Valencia’ oranges were highest at 6°C, while in lemon the incidence of these disorders rose with the decrease in storage temperature, and was highest at 2°C. Grapefruit and ‘Shamouti’ oranges exhibited the highest susceptibility to CI, lemon showed an intermediate susceptibility, and ‘Valencia’ orange a very low one. In grapefruit, severe peel pittings that developed in cold storage were covered by mold rots during cold storage and shelf-life, but in ‘Valencia’ and particularly in ‘Shamouti’ oranges the incidence of decay during cold storage was low. During shelf-life, a pronounced CI-induced increase in the incidence of mold rots was evident. This breakdown during shelf-life may be associated with microscopic peel injuries which are formed during cold storage and covered by mold rots during shelf-life. Increased susceptibility of the cultivar to CI could be correlated with an increase in ethanol content at low temperatures.  相似文献

In drip irrigation experiments where water was applied daily it was found that low water tensions could be maintained in the soil to a range of 10 to 20 centibars and that these conditions had a considerable influence on yield and quality of processing tomatoes, Lycopersicon esculentum cv VF 317. The response of the plant in different growth stages to low soil water tensions was studied. Irrigation during the period of fruit set and fruit development was found to increase yield levels by 53 t ha-1 compared with non-irrigated plants. Irrigation applied only during the period of fruit development had a favourable influence on yield as well as on the efficiency of water utilization. However, irrigation at this stage had an unfavourable influence on fruit quality characteristics, namely, total soluble solids, acidity, viscosity and vitamin C. The effects of irrigation on fruit set and fruit development are discussed.  相似文献

Processing-tomatoes, Lycopersicon esculentum Mill., were cultivated in an area devoid of summer precipitation without irrigation. A method was tested which included soil mulching with transparent polyethylene, augmented phosphorus fertilization, plant population, planting-dates and cultivars which produced 60 tons per hectare. Under dry cultivation, fruit quality was superior, particularly as expressed in parameters of total soluble solids (TSS, 7–8° Brix), high acidity amounting to 0.5% total titrated acid, and high viscosity.Soil mulching and intensified phosphorus fertilization influenced yield of red fruit for canning, and also affected yield of TSS per hectare.  相似文献
