Balance trials were conducted with African catfish Clarias gariepinus to assess the effect of phytase treatment of soybean meal-based diets on growth, feed utilization and nutrient budgets. Isocaloric (20–22 kJ g−1) and isonitrogenous (47–50% protein) diets were tested. In a first experiment the control diet (58% fish meal and 18% soybean meal) was compared with two diets containing 6% fish meal and 69% soybean meal, and two diets containing 29% fish meal and 41% soybean meal. One of each of these two diets had been pretreated with phytase (1000 units per kg dry diet). In the second experiment, the control diet (6% fish meal and 69% soybean meal, pretreated with 1000 units phytase kg−1 dry diet) was compared with four diets that were similar in composition but supplemented with increasing amounts of phytase (15, 380, 750, 1000 units kg−1 dry diet). Replacement of fish meal by soybean meal in the first experiment led to a depression in growth rate and feed utilization parameters. Results of both experiments clearly indicated a positive effect of phytase treatment, particularly on phosphorus digestibility and retention, and consequently the phosphorus conversion efficiency and the phosphorus budget. No differences in these parameters were found between addition of equal amounts of phytase by pretreatment or supplementation.  相似文献

Twenty ten-week-old newly weaned male Batinah goats were randomly assigned to a control (n = 10) and a treated (n = 10) group and were fed a diet containing 0.1 mg/kg DM cobalt (Co). Goats in the treated group received bi-monthly subcutaneous injections of 2000 μg of hydroxycobalamin. The phagocytic function of the polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) were tested using a luminol-dependent chemiluminescence assay with opsonized zymosan as the phagocytic target. One month after the onset of the experiment PMN from the control group exhibited a significantly (p < 0.05) lower CL response, which continued for the second month. The results of the present study demonstrated that low levels of dietary cobalt leads to an early impairment of phagocytic function. This may at least in part, be an explanation as to why at the field level in Oman young goats fed diets containing low levels of Co appear to be more susceptible to infections.  相似文献

Lysimetric experiments were conducted to determine the contribution made by groundwater to the overall water requirements of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.). The plants were grown in 24 columns, each having a diameter of 0.40 m and packed with silty clay soil. The four replicate randomized complete block factorial experiments were carried out using different treatment combinations. Six treatments were applied during each experiment by maintaining groundwater, with an EC of 1 dS m?1, at three different water table levels (0.6, 0.8 and 1.10 m) with and without supplementary irrigation. The uptake of groundwater as a part of crop evapotranspiration was measured by taking daily readings of the water levels found in Mariotte tubes. The supplementary irrigation requirement for each treatment was applied by adding water (EC of 1 dS m?1). The average percentage contribution from groundwater for the treatments (with and without supplementary irrigation under water table levels of 0.6, 0.8 and 1.10 m) were found to be 65, 59, 38% and 72, 70, 47% of the average annual safflower water requirement (6,466 m3 ha?1). The increase in groundwater depths under supplementary irrigation treatments from 0.6 to 0.80 and 1.10 m caused seed and oil yield reductions of (7, 23.10%) and (48.23, 65.40%), respectively.  相似文献

The effects of transportation and electrical stimulation (90 V) on physiological, histochemical and meat quality characteristics of two breeds of Omani goats were assessed. Twenty 1‐year‐old male goats from each breed (Batina and Dhofari) were divided into two groups: 3 h transported during the hot season (42°C day time temperature) and non‐transported. Animals were blood‐sampled before loading and prior to slaughter. Electrical stimulation was applied 20 min postmortem to 50% randomly selected carcasses of both breeds. Temperature and pH decline of the Longissimus was monitored. Ultimate pH, shear force, sarcomere length, myofibrillar fragmentation index, expressed juice, cooking loss and colour were measured from samples of Longissimus dorsi muscles. Electrical stimulation and transportation had a significant effect on most biochemical and meat quality characteristics of Longissimus dorsi. The transported goats had higher plasma cortisol (P < 0.01), adrenaline, nor‐adrenaline and dopamine concentrations (P < 0.05) than non‐transported goats. Electrical stimulation resulted in a significantly (P < 0.05) more rapid muscle pH fall during the first 12 h after slaughter. Muscles from electrically‐stimulated carcasses had significantly (P < 0.05) longer sarcomeres, lower shear force value, a lighter colour (higher L* value), higher expressed juice and myofibrillar fragmentation index than those from non‐stimulated ones. Meat from transported goats had significantly higher pH, expressed juice and shear force, but contained significantly lower sarcomere length and L* values than non‐transported goats. The proportion of the myosin ATPase staining did not change as a function of stimulation, transportation or breed. These results indicated that subjecting goats to transportation for 3 h under high ambient temperatures can generate major physiological and muscle metabolism responses. Electrical stimulation improved quality characteristics of meat from both groups. This indicates that electrical stimulation may reduce detrimental effects of transportation on meat quality of Omani goats.  相似文献
