Objectives— To evaluate the clinical outcome of left partial arytenoidectomy by video-assisted laser diode photoablation as a surgical treatment for canine laryngeal paralysis (LP).
Study Design— Case series.
Animals— Dogs with bilateral LP (n=20).
Methods— After endoscopic diagnosis of bilateral LP, left partial arytenoidectomy was performed by photoablation of arytenoid cartilage tissue using a diode laser (600 μm diameter, 15 W power, 980 nm wave length) to increase the width of the rima glottidis. Outcome was evaluated endoscopically (1 and 6 months) and clinically (1, 6, and 12 months).
Results— No substantial complications occurred during photoablation or in the immediate postoperative period. Postoperative width of the rima glottidis ranged from 6 to 10 mm at its widest aspect. At 1 month, respiratory function after walking and short running appeared good. Clinical and endoscopic examination revealed good outcome at 1 and 6 months. At 6 months, there was no evidence of hypertrophic scar, hypertrophic granulation tissue, or stricture of the laryngeal glottis in any dog. Two dogs developed aspiration pneumonia after 12 months.
Conclusions— Partial arytenoidectomy using video-assisted diode laser photoablation appears to be an effective technique for treating LP.
Clinical Relevance— Partial arytenoidectomy by diode laser photoablation should be considered as an alternative technique for treatment of canine LP. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to describe the technique of laparoscopic ultrasonography in six dogs with intra-abdominal disease. Investigation of the abdominal cavity was undertaken initially in each dog by laparoscopy alone. After exploration and visualization of a diseased organ, a 7.5 MHz microconvex ultrasound probe was introduced into the abdomen through a laparoscopic cannula for videoguided ultrasound examination. Laparoscopic ultrasonography allows core biopsy or needle aspiration to be performed by guiding the needle into nonsuperficial lesions, where videoendoscopic guidance alone is not enough. In addition, color Doppler ultrasonography is useful to examine the vascular pattern to minimize or eliminate complications when a biopsy is performed. 相似文献

Thirty dogs with spontaneous tumors were irradiated with proton therapy using a novel spot scanning technique to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the system, and to study the acute and late radiation reactions. Nasal tumors, soft tissue sarcomas, and miscellaneous tumors of the head were treated with a median total dose of 52.5 Gy given in 3.5 Gy fractions. Acute effects, late effects, tumor response, and outcome were analyzed. No unexpected radiation reactions were seen, however two dogs did develop in-field osteosarcoma, and one dog developed in-field bone necrosis. Complete response to therapy was seen in 40% (12/30), partial response in 47% (14/30), and no response in 13% (4/30). Median survival for all dogs was 385 days (range of 14–4583 days). Dogs with nasal cavity tumors had a median survival of 385 days (range of 131–1851 days) and dogs with soft tissue sarcomas had a median survival time of 612 days (range of 65–4588 days). Treatment outcome was similar to historical controls. This new proton spot scanning technique proved to be safe and reliable. 相似文献
