Sheep from local farms with and without previous exposure to pigs were tested for their skin and airway responses to a commercial Ascaris suum antigen. There was an immediate reaction to intradermal injection of the antigen in 90% of 101 sheep. A bronchial provocation test by aerosol of the same antigen was undertaken on 43 of the sheep with a positive skin reaction. About 70% of sheep showed an immediate airway response to the antigen as an aerosol, reflected as a significant increase in airway resistance and/or decrease of dynamic lung compliance. The mean peak airway resistance and mean lowest dynamic lung compliance were 165% above and 61% below their baselines, respectively. No significant changes were recorded when the same animals were given an aerosol of phosphate buffered saline. Similarly, no correlation was found between the degree of skin reaction and the magnitude of bronchoconstriction (p>0.05). The sheep with previous exposure to pigs showed no significant differences in airway responses to antigen challenge, although they showed significantly greater skin reactions than those without exposure to pigs. These results indicate that the majority of Romney sheep in the Manawatu have a natural skin and airway sensitivity to A. suum antigen and may therefore be used as an animal model to study human airway hypersensitivity. Anabolic steroids (ABS) boldenone (BL; 1.1 mg/kg) and stanozolol (ST; 0.55 mg/kg) were administered i.m. to horses and the plasma samples collected up to 64 days. Anabolic steroids and androgenic steroids (ANS) in plasma were quantified using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The limit of detection of all analytes was 25 pg/mL. The median absorption (t1/2 partial differential) and elimination (t1/2e) half-lives for BL were 8.5 h and 123.0 h, respectively, and the area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUCho) was 274.8 ng.h/mL. The median t1/2e for ST was 82.1 h and the was 700.1 ng.h/mL. Peak mean (X+/-SD) plasma concentrations (Cmax) for BL and ST were 1127.8 and 4118.2 pg/mL, respectively. Quantifiable concentrations of ABS and ANS were found in 61.7% of the 988 plasma samples tested from race tracks. In 17.3% of the plasma samples two or more ABS or ANS were quantifiable. Testosterone (TES) concentrations mean (X+/-SE) in racing and nonracing intact males were 241.3+/-61.3 and 490.4+/-35.1 pg/mL, respectively. TES was not quantified in nonracing geldings and female horses, but was in racing females and geldings. Plasma concentrations of endogenous 19-nortestosterone (nandrolone; NA) from racing and nonracing males were 50.2+/-5.5 and 71.8+/-4.6 pg/mL, respectively.  相似文献

Rare earth element (REE) data from two ordinary chondrite chondrules show distinct negative chondrite-normalized concentration anomalies of samarium, europium, and ytterbium. The peculiar patterns may be the result of REE gas/solid fractionation at an oxygen fugacity lower than has been assumed for the canonical solar nebula. We suggest that the two ordinary chondrite chondrules acquired the fractionated REE patterns by incorporation of highly reduced, ultrarefractory condensates in their precursors. This interpretation implies that high-temperature condensation processes occurred in nebular environments with a strong deficit in oxygen, such as regions with an enhanced carbon/oxygen ratio.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Controlled-release fertilizers (CRF) were compared with ammonium nitrate (AN) in a potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) production study at the University of Florida farm in Hastings, FL, in 2002. Treatments were no nitrogen (No-N), AN, and nine CRFs at 146 kg ha?1 N and 225 kg ha?1 N. CRF7 (146 kg ha?1 N) resulted in highest total and marketable yields at 33.7 MT ha?1 and 29.4 MT ha?1, respectively. Tubers from the AN (225 kg ha?1 N) and CRF9 (225 kg ha?1 N) treatments had the highest specific gravity at 1.073. Nitrogen removal efficiency was highest in plants in CRF1 (43.0%) and CRF7 (47.3%) plots. Both were significantly higher than AN-treated plants. At 39 days after planting, NO3-N and NH4-N concentrations in lysimeter water samples were significantly higher in AN treatments. Leaf tissue N concentrations were sufficient throughout the growing season in all treatments except No-N.  相似文献

1. Two growth trials were performed to measure the effects of dietary methionine and cystine (SAA) on growth rate, food conversion efficiency and breast meat deposition in male broilers.

2. In experiment 1, broilers were grown on 6 experimental diets covering a range from 6.9 to 9.6 g SAA/kg. The diets were fed from 15 to 33 d of age. Similarly, in experiment 2, 6 diets containing 6.0 to 8.5 g SAA/kg were fed to finishing broilers 33 to 43 d of age. In each experiment 60 birds per treatment were processed, and carcase yield and breast meat percentage were determined.

3. Significant responses in weight gain, efficiency of food conversion and breast meat percentage were detected, which could be described well by exponential regression curves. Dietary SAA requirements to obtain maximum efficiency of food utilisation and maximum breast meat deposition were estimated to be about 9.0 g/kg from 15 to 33 d of age, and about 8.0 g/kg from 33 to 43 d of age.

4. Economic aspects were considered to calculate optimum SAA specifications from the results. In both trials, the dietary optimum of SAA was found to be higher for birds to be further processed than for birds to be marketed as whole carcases.  相似文献

1. Two experiments were conducted with male broiler chicks from 2 to 5 weeks of age to determine the effect of dietary protein content and amino acid balance on the response to dietary sulphur‐containing amino acids (SAA) in terms of performance and carcase quality.

2. In experiment 1, 5 graded amounts of a DL‐methionine and L‐cysteine (1:1 by weight) mixture were added to basal diets containing 197 or 233 g crude protein/kg. The diets containing 197 g protein/kg were fed with or without the further addition of 36 g crude protein/kg from nonessential amino acids. The amino acid balance of all diets was kept constant for all essential amino acids except the SAA. In experiment 2, 5 graded amounts of SAA from either a crystalline source (DL‐methionine or a mixture of DL‐methionine and L‐cysteine) or from intact proteins were added to a diet containing 208 g protein/kg.

3. At each protein concentration there were significant responses to the SAA addition in weight gain, food conversion efficiency, and carcase quality. Non‐linear exponential regression analyses were used to describe bird responses to SAA concentration. The broiler chick's requirement for SAA increased with increasing dietary protein concentrations ranging from 197 to 259 g protein/kg.

4. The utilisation of SAA differed also with differences in origin (crystalline or peptide‐bound), and methionine:cysteine balances. Compared to DL‐methionine, a 1:1 mixture of DL‐methionine and L‐cysteine was only 81% or 86% as effective in supporting growth or food conversion, respectively. SAA from added protein was even less effectively utilised.

5. The addition of nonessential amino acids tended to decrease food intake without affecting SAA utilisation.

6. Slaughter yield and breast meat yield were clearly increased while fat deposition was clearly decreased, by SAA addition. The response in breast meat yield suggested an important economic benefit for further meat processing. Nitrogen retention was significantly enhanced by SAA supplementation from crystalline sources, and this led to reductions of up to 30% in the amount of nitrogen excreted per kg weight gain.  相似文献
