1. Ileal endogenous amino acid losses were determined in broiler chickens and in cannulated cross‐bred layer strain cockerels using either a nitrogen‐free diet, regression analysis or a 48 h fast.

2. Endogenous amino acid flows to the ileum in fasted cockerels were significantly lower than those obtained both by feeding the nitrogen‐free diet, and from regression analysis in either broilers or cockerels. Regression analysis gave the highest flows.

3. The apparent digestibility coefficients of amino acids in a diet containing 200 g/kg crude protein were lower in broilers (0.84) than in cockerels (0.88). When corrected, by regression analysis, for the contribution of endogenous amino acids, the true digestibility coefficients became 0.90 and 0.92 respectively.  相似文献

Veterinary Research Communications, 21(3), 161-167A technique, based on the homoarginine present in guanidinated proteins, has been used to distinguish between endogenous secretions and exogenous dietary amino acids in the ileal digesta of monogastric animals. This technique assumes that the ingested homoarginine is not recycled into the small intestine after absorption, but this assumption is yet to be experimentally validated in chickens. The secretion of homoarginine into the gut of broilers that were intravenously infused with 20 and 40 mmol/L homoarginine solutions was assessed. The plasma concentrations of homoarginine increased with increasing concentrations of homoarginine infused. However, only negligible levels of homoarginine (7.0 to 45.2 µg/g dry matter) were found in the digesta. Less than 0.01% of the intravenously infused homoarginine was recovered in the intestinal digesta, indicating that the secretion of homoarginine into the gut of chickens was insignificant.  相似文献

The genetic architecture of organ weights is not well understood. In this study, we fine‐mapped quantitative trait loci (QTLs) affecting organ weights by characterizing six intersubspecific subcongenic mouse strains with overlapping and non‐overlapping genomic regions on chromosome 2 derived from wild Mus musculus castaneus. QTLs for heart, lung, spleen and kidney weights were revealed on a 6.38‐Mb genomic region between two microsatellite markers, D2Mit323 and D2Mit472. Effects of the castaneus alleles at the organ weight QTLs were all opposite in direction to a body weight QTL previously mapped to the same genomic region. In addition, new QTLs for lung and kidney weights were revealed on a different 3.57‐Mb region between D2Mit205 and D2Mit182. Their effects were dependent on that of another body weight QTL previously mapped to that genomic region. The organ weight QTLs revealed were all duplicated in independent analyses with F2 intercross populations between subcongenic strains carrying these QTLs and their background strain. The findings suggested that organ weights are not exclusively regulated by genetic loci that commonly influence overall body weight and rather that there are loci contributing to the growth of specific organs only.  相似文献

Small, varying improvements in apparent ileal amino acid digestibilities were obtained when wheat was combined with certain other cereals in broiler diets. Synergistic interactions, sometimes resulting in large improvements in the apparent metabolisable energy (AME) contents of the diets, were also observed with certain cereal combinations. Combining wheat with maize or oats enhanced the utilisation of dietary energy and amino acids.  相似文献

1. A significant proportion of wheat cultivars grown in New South Wales had low apparent metabolisable energy (AME) values (< 13.0 MJ/kg dry matter) for growing broilers when determined by the conventional total collection technique.

2. The low AME was due to a reduced starch digestibility and was not improved by grinding the wheat finely or by steam pelleting the diet.

3. Higher AME values were obtained when determinations were made with adult cockerels than with growing broilers when the conventional technique was used.

4. AME values determined using a rapid bioassay technique (Farrell, 1978) with growing broilers or adult cockerels were considerably higher than values determined using the conventional procedure with growing broilers.

5. Inter‐laboratory studies showed that the true metabolisable energy (TME) assay gave reproducible values for individual and blended wheat samples, but that these values were higher than AME values determined by the conventional procedure. Digital image analysis to estimate the live weight of broiler   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Computer assisted digital image analysis was performed to investigate the possibility of estimating body weight of live broiler. To achieve the stated objective, 100 Arbor acres broiler chicks were reared under standard rearing condition and 1200 digital images were captured from 20 randomly selected broilers during the 7-42 days growing period. The captured images were analyzed by raster image analysis software (IDRISI 32) to determine the broiler body surface area and developed a linear equation to estimate weights of the broiler from its body surface-area pixels. The developed weight predicted equation based on surface-area pixels was log W = 1.060406(log P) + 0.173756(log A) − 2.029268 (W = estimated body weight, P = surface-area pixels and A = age at weighing) and the degree of goodness of fit of this equation was 0.999. The relative error in weight estimation of broiler chicken by image analysis, expressed in terms of percent error of the residuals from surface-area pixels was in between 0.04 and 16.47. On the other hand, the estimated body weights were not significantly (p > 0.05) difference from manually measured body weights up to 35 days of age. Thus, the development of a practical imaging system for weighing live broiler is feasible.  相似文献

Abstract

Corky root rot is a ubiquitous soil-borne disease of tomato caused by the pathogen Pyrenochaeta lycopersici. This filamentous fungus is found on the roots of many crops and can persist in the soil up to 15 years as microsclerotia. High prevalence of corky root rot can be partly explained by the endurance and the broad host range of P. lycopersici, but how this fungus can gain access to host roots is still poorly understood, as its competitive saprophytic ability is very low. We have combined microscopy and reporter gene techniques to investigate the tomato–P. lycopersici interaction in vitro, and discovered the pathogen secretes molecules that change the direction of root growth and induce cell necrosis specifically in the apical part of the root of tomato (apex, elongation zone and beginning of the root hair zone). Moreover, we found that the fungus preferentially infects immature root cells that are sensitive to these secreted fungal molecules, whereas infection is blocked in mature and insensitive parts of the root. Our study sheds light on novel and important features of the biology of this pathogen, which could contribute to its fitness in the rhizosphere.  相似文献

Copper fungicide residues in Australian vineyard soils   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Copper (Cu) concentrations were measured in Australian vineyard soils to assess the extent and magnitude of Cu accumulation resulting from the use of Cu-based fungicides and to indicate the likely risks to long-term soil fertility. Soil samples were collected from 98 vineyards across 10 grape-growing regions of Australia and analyzed for total Cu concentrations. Ninety-six percent of vineyards surveyed had elevated Cu concentrations in soil compared to the background Cu concentrations in nearby soil in its native state. Concentrations of total B, Co, Cr, Pb, and Zn were similar to background concentrations and below reported toxicity guideline values. Cu concentrations in Australian vineyard soils were generally much lower (6-150 mg kg (-1)) than those reported in the soils of vineyards in parts of Europe (i.e., 130-1280 mg kg (-1)). Concentrations of total Cu were generally below those concentrations reported to cause lethal effects to soil invertebrates; however, Cu exceeded concentrations known to cause sublethal effects (i.e., inhibit growth, affect reproduction, induce avoidance behavior) to those (or related) invertebrates.  相似文献
