Influence of HVDC System on the Shaft of Hydro-generator Unit

Widely concerns of the influence of the HVDC system on the Three Gorges power station have been shown so far. Based on the understanding of the mechanism of the non-characteristic harmonics introduced by HVDC system, the influence of interharmonics on the shaft of hydro-generator unit is studied. A MATLAB simulation model for the Three Gorges hybrid AC and DC transmission system with considering the effect of generator-unit shaft is established. Through time-domain simulation, the influence of the minor-associated component of interharmonics on the generator-unit shaft is analyzed, which arise from the asynchronous operation of the HVDC system. Also, the complex torque coefficient method in frequency-domain is used to analyze this problem. Same conclusions can be drawn from the results of timedomain and frequency-domain analyses.     

Development of the Cardiac Conducting System in the Chick Embryo

Chick embryos at 3 to 15 days of incubation were examined for the developmet and differentiation of the "four rings" of the heart. It was clarified that nodes and bundles of the impulse conducting system in the adult chicken were derived from these rings. This finding was very important for understanding the cardiac conducting system in birds and mammals.     

原发性胆囊癌的早期诊断及处理原则

目的探讨原发性胆囊癌的早期诊断及处理原则。方法对我院2001年7月至2008年7月年间收治的36例原发性胆囊癌患者的临床资料及手术治疗情况进行回顾性分析。结果胆囊结石与胆囊癌的发病之间有着密切的关系,80.6%（29/36）胆囊癌患者合并有胆囊结石;首发症状以腹痛最为常见,共19例（52.8%）,其次为黄疸14例（38.9%）。B超、CT及MR诊断准确率分别为52.9%、57.1%及52.9%;36例均行手术治疗,术前确诊率仅为58.3%（21/36）。结论原发性胆囊癌早期诊断非常困难,CT诊断准确率较高。提高对原发性胆囊癌发病的认识,加强对高危人群的定期监测随访,联合运用B超和CT检查有助于本病的早期诊断,改善预后。     

Reproductive characteristics in female Swedish moose (Alces alces), with emphasis on puberty,timing of oestrus,and mating

Background

The moose (Alces alces) is an intensively managed keystone species in Fennoscandia. Several aspects of reproduction in moose have not been fully elucidated, including puberty, timing of mating and oestrus, and the length of the oestrus period. These aspects are relevant for an adaptive management of moose with respect to harvest, population size, demography and environmental conditions. Therefore, an investigation of female moose reproduction was conducted during the moose-hunting period in southern Sweden from 2008 to 2011.

Results

A total of 250 reproductive organs and information on carcass weight and age was collected from four different hunting areas (provinces of Öland, Småland, Södermanland, and Västergötland) in southern Sweden. The results showed that puberty in female moose varied with carcass weight, age, and time of season. The period for oestrous/mating lasted from about mid September to the beginning of November.

Conclusions

The oestrus period (predominantly for heifers) is longer than previously reported and was not finished when the hunting period started. Sampling the uterine cervix to detect spermatozoa was a useful method to determine if mating had occurred. To avoid hunting of moose during oestrus, we suggest that the hunting period should be postponed by at least 14 days in southern Sweden.     

黄褐天幕毛虫发生规律及其飞机防治的研究

黄褐天幕毛虫在黑龙江省大兴安岭地区1年发生1代，幼虫在卵内越冬，第2年4月下旬孵化，主要危害栎树、山杨、白桦、黑桦等阔叶树，5月上旬～6月上旬为暴食期。虫口密度与林分组成的关系为栎树纯林和栎树比例在9以上的林分平均虫口在118头／株以上，危害重；而栎树比例在4以下的林分平均虫口在50头／株以上，危害轻。采用飞机超低量喷洒22．5％杀虫优油剂，防治效果为93．61％。98.05％。     

A case of perosomus elumbis in a Holstein calf

Perosomus elumbis is an occasionally found congenital anomaly of unknown etiology and is characterized by partial or complete agenesis of lumbar, sacral and coccygeal vertebrae and ankylosis of the hindlimbs. A 2-day-old female Holstein calf presented nearly normal forelimbs but flexure and ankylosis of the hindlimbs. The vertebrae and pelvic malformations and agenesis were radiographed and then necropsied. Mild ankylosis of the hindlimbs, absence of cauda equina, left scoliosis in state of fusion of T11 and T12 and complete fusion of L4 and L5, narrowed pelvic canal and misshapen ilium were confirmed. However, abnormal development or agenesis was not observed in the urogenital and intestinal system in this calf.

Confidence as a barrier to the use of problem-based learning in veterinary undergraduate students

Problem-based or case-based learning is a popular method of instruction in clinical degrees such as veterinary science, nursing, and medicine. It is difficult, however, for students to adapt to this learning method, and this difficulty has been well described. The present study surveyed first-year undergraduate veterinary students at the University of Nottingham about the challenges they faced upon beginning problem-based learning sessions. A surprisingly large percentage of students (36% of females and 38% of males) reported a lack of confidence in speaking in front of the other students as a concern they experienced during their first term. Conversely, only 10% of the female students (and none of the male students) reported overconfidence as a problem. This is in contrast to the perceptions of the staff members who facilitated the sessions who reported that 14% of the students exhibited underconfidence and 14% exhibited overconfidence. The difference between the female and male students' responses as well as the difference between the perceptions of students and those of facilitators is statistically significant (G-test p<.05).
