This study was conducted with Aloe barbadensis in order to investigate the efficacy of four phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB), Pseudomonas synxantha 10223, Burkholderia gladioli 10242, Enterobacter hormaechei 10240 and Serratia marcescens 10241 to solubilize Mussorie rock phosphate (MRP) and to evaluate its effects on growth, soluble P content and P uptake compared with control, i.e. uninoculated plants. Pot experiments were conducted in a greenhouse, in soil supplemented with MRP. Each PSB treatment showed different effects on different plant growth parameters. The maximum increase in leaf length (23.7%), total number of leaves (33.33%) and dry rind weight (69.10%) was observed in plants treated with P. synxantha 10223 compared with control. Whereas, maximum increase in root length (23.43%), fresh leaves weight (79.03%), dry gel weight (113.08%) and total gel volume (112.10%), was observed in plants treated with S. marcescens 10241 compared with uninoculated plants. Maximum increase in aloin-A content [114.92% (per g dry gel weight) and 322.32% (per plant dry gel weight)] was observed in plants treated with P. synxantha 10223 compared with control plants. Root colonization by inoculated PSB as estimated by RAPD technique showed that all PSB were able to survive in the rhizosphere of Aloe plants.  相似文献

Sodium-rich frog muscles are found to extrude sodium and reaccumulate potassium at 0 degrees C. The uptake of potassium by these muscles is studied at three different temperatures as a function of external potassium concentration, K(ex). The steady-state potassium content of the tissue is related to K(ex). by a sigmoidal cooperative curve at all temperatures. These results are compared with findings on a mammalian smooth muscle.  相似文献

The steady-state levels of potassium and sodium of taenia coli of guinea are critically affected by varying temperature in the narrow range 12 degrees to degrees C. For the accumulation of both cations the critical temperature, T(c), is 13.8 degrees C the presence of millimolar external potassium. The value of T(c), decreases 10.0 degrees C when the external potassium is raised to 10 millimolar. Since, at a fixed Temperature, the potassium accumulation follows a cooperative mechanism, the results are compared with the quantitative predictions of this approach. The itical thermal transition behavior can be described in terms of the cooperative cumulation process.  相似文献

Phenotypic and genetic polymorphism was studied amongst four Theileria annulata isolates collected from three different parts of India. Amongst various markers studied for the comparison of growth characteristics of schizont cell lines established from these isolates, viability, non-viability counts and nitric oxide (NO) production showed significant variation. A negative correlation was observed between NO production and mRNA expression for TNF-alpha, a potent proinflammatory cytokine related to the pathogenesis of the disease. Phenotypic polymorphism was also revealed by T. annulata schizont-specific monoclonal antibodies (Mabs), viz. 1C7, 1E11, 2G2 and EU-106, which recognized variable number of cells in indirect fluorescent antibody and indirect immunoperoxidase tests, when tested against the four T. annulata isolates collected from India. Genetic polymorphism was recognized amongst the four isolates by restriction digestion analysis of Tams-1 gene PCR products. These observations revealed that the four isolates of T. annulata are different from each other and might be expressing different antigenic determinants on their cell surface.  相似文献

Four Holstein steers (212 kg) with cannulas in the rumen and proximal duodenum were used in a 4 x 4 Latin square experiment to study the influence of degree of ruminal biohydrogenation (BH) on the feeding value of supplemental fat. Treatments consisted of an 88% concentrate finishing diet supplemented with 1) 2% yellow grease (control); 2) 4% formaldehyde-protected fat (Rumentek), 2% yellow grease (LBH); 3) 2% Rumentek, 4% yellow grease (MBH); or 4) 6% yellow grease (HBH). Ruminal BH of HBH, MBH, and LBH diets was 74, 68, and 54%, respectively. High-fat supplementation decreased (7%, P < .05) intestinal digestibility of 18:0 but increased intestinal digestibility of 18:1 (3%, P < .10), 18:2 (14%, P < .01), and 18:3 (23%, P < .05). Increases in intestinal digestibility of 18:0 (quadratic effect, P < .05), 18:1 (linear effect, P < .01), 18:2 (linear effect, P < .01), 18:3 (linear effect, P < .05), and total fatty acids (linear effect, P < .05) were inversely related to BH. For every 1% increase in the proportion of 18:1 fat entering the small intestine, the digestibility of 18:0 increased 1%. High-fat supplementation depressed ruminal digestion of OM (11%, P < .05), NDF (16%, P < .05), starch (6%, P < .05), and feed N (12%, P < .01). Formaldehyde-protein protection of fat diminished its depressing effects on ruminal digestion of NDF (quadratic effect, P < .10) and enhanced ruminal escape of feed N (linear effect, P < .10). Postruminal digestion of OM was greater (4.6%, P < .10) for high-fat diets. High-fat diets decreased (P < .05) total tract digestion of OM (1.9%), NDF (7.4%), and starch (.5%). Postruminal and total tract digestibility of OM, NDF, N, and starch was not affected (P > .10) by BH. In a 125-d finishing trial, 100 yearling steers (362 kg) were used to evaluate treatment effects on growth performance. High-fat diets did not affect (P > .10) ADG but increased (P < .10) feed efficiency (9%, P < .10), dietary NEm (7.6%, P < .05), and dressing percentage (9%, P < .05). The magnitude of the increase in dressing percentage was inversely related (linear effect, P < .10) to BH. We conclude that decreasing ruminal BH will increase postruminal digestibility of fat, and hence the NE value of dietary fat. The synergistic effect of increasing the proportion of 18:1 on intestinal digestion of fat enables higher levels of fat supplementation. Protecting fat from BH minimizes the detrimental effects of supplemental fat on fiber digestion.  相似文献

The equitable distribution of canal water is imperative to ensure social justice as well as crop productivity. In north-west India and Pakistan, water from the tertiary canal (watercourse) is distributed to the farmers through a rotational system of irrigation. In this system the duration of supply to each farmer is in proportion to his holding in the outlet (watercourse) command, without considering the seepage loss. The rate of seepage loss increases with increase in length of watercourse from head to tail. Thus, the farmers in the lower reaches get much less water per unit area than the farmers in the upper reaches. The farmers must be compensated for the seepage loss. Therefore, a model was developed to ensure equitable distribution of water to the farmers located on a watercourse in proportion to their land holdings giving due compensation for the seepage loss. The model is based on the assumption that soil throughout the length of flow is homogeneous and loss through evaporation is negligible. The model developed ensures an equitable distribution of water to the farmers according to their land holdings. A comparison of existing and revised time allocation reveals that the farmers located in the upper reaches were getting more time (up to 12.2 min per unit area), while the farmers located in the lower reaches have been getting less time (up to 28.1 min per unit area). The existing allocation of time of 0.75 h per unit area to all the farmers according to the old rules was revised to 0.546–1.219 h per unit area from head to tail. The conclusions drawn suggest that the strategy developed here should be adopted elsewhere in the existing system of irrigation for equitable distribution of canal water. The effects of ouabain on potassium accumulation were studied in the dog carotid artery. It was confirmed that vascular smooth muscle lost potassium in the presence of ouabain greater than 10(-9) molar. This effect could be reversed by systematically increasing potassium in the external medium. The action of ouabain on ion accumulation was represented quantitatively with the application of a recent biophysical approach.  相似文献
