Freezing significantly influences the amount and chemical form of extractable soil phosphorus and, therefore, has important consequences regarding plant nutrient availability. Much of the current evidence relies on field-based observations and tends to be rather contradictory. The present work reports the specific effects various freezing episodes have on phosphorus availability. Experimental treatments included the freezing rate and the time soil remained frozen together with the number of freeze/thaw cycles. These laboratory incubations used two soils, an iron humus podzol and a peaty podzol, sub-samples of which were equilibrated at three different soil-moisture contents. Concentrations of phosphorus in soil solutions and acetic acid extracts (Ac-P) were measured. Freezing had the greatest effect on the organic (Op) horizon of the peaty podzol, where the amounts of total dissolved phosphorus (TDP) and Ac-P increased from 0.58 to 3.21 and from 11.8 to 19.3 mg P kg?1, respectively. TDP in soil solution was subdivided into three broad categories, dissolved (molybdate) reactive (MRP), organic (DOP) and condensed (DCP). The rather variable effect that freeze/thaw episodes had on these fractions highlighted the problems associated with attributing the ‘freezing effect’ to any single process.  相似文献

The extent and pattern of genetic differentiation between Phelipanche ramosa populations colonising tobacco in different European regions were investigated by amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) analysis, in order to determine levels of variation for tobacco resistance breeding and management programmes. Four different AFLP primer pairs amplified a total of 1050 clear and reproducible bands, of which 962 (91.62%) were polymorphic among the 35 individuals taken from four P. ramosa populations collected in Spain, Italy, Bulgaria and Germany. Cluster analysis based on the AFLP data categorised the plants into distinct groups, in line with their geographical origin, denoting clear genetic differentiation among the four populations. This differentiation was supported by both high bootstrap values and significant results of the analysis of molecular variance. The most divergent population was the one from Bulgaria. The majority of the genetic diversity was attributable to differences among populations (77.80%), as expected from the predominant autogamous behaviour of this species. Populations differed significantly in within-population diversity, as measured by Shannon's information index. The German population presented the lowest genetic diversity and the Italian population harboured the highest level of within-population genetic diversity. There are significant differences in genetic diversity level among the studied P. ramosa populations and clear population-specific genetic diversity structures. These need to be taken into account, together with the potential differences in parasite aggressiveness, when planning breeding and management strategies for P. ramosa control in tobacco cultivation.  相似文献

Three once-daily oral doses of 0.2 mg/kg [14C]dirlotapide were administered to beagle dogs to study the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of dirlotapide. Mean 14C recovered at 2.5 and 4.5 h after the last dose was 90%. Mean 14C in urine, bile, and feces was <1%, 1.7%, and 56% of the dose, respectively. In tissues, 26% of the 14C dose was present in the gastrointestinal tract, 6.0% in liver, and <1% each in kidney, gall bladder, heart, and brain. To further characterize drug disposition, a single 2.5-mg/kg oral dose of [14C]dirlotapide was administered to beagle dogs. More than 84% of the dose had been eliminated by 72 h in feces, with 21% of the dose present in feces as parent dirlotapide. Less than 1% of the dose was excreted in urine. In bile collected during the first 24-h postdose from three dogs, 32% and 11% of the 14C dose was present in samples from male and female dogs, respectively. Based upon metabolite profiling of plasma, excreta, and bile samples, dirlotapide was extensively metabolized to more than 20 metabolites. Biliary/fecal excretion and the potential for enterohepatic recycling of metabolites are suggested.  相似文献

Color and taste are permanent features of amala, a traditional thick paste obtained from yam chips flour. To assess these attributes, 23 yam chips presenting various quality attributes were processed. The sensory attributes of their derived amala were determined and some biochemical characteristics of yam flours measured. A panel defined five main taste attributes for amala: sweetness, bitterness, acidity, fermented, and roasted tastes. Amala color was measured instrumentally and sensory scores were highly correlated with flour biochemical analyses; amala sweetness was positively correlated with glucose and fructose content of the flour, whereas amala acidity and fermented taste were linked to organic acids and lactic acid contents of flour, respectively. In addition, darkness, bitterness, and roasted tastes of amala could be tightly predicted by multiple regression analysis from phenolic compound and glucose–fructose contents. Phenolic content of yam flour plays thus a key role on sensorial quality of amala. However, polyphenol oxidase and peroxidase activities were almost null in yam flours and their specific role on yam flour phenolic content needs to be clarified.  相似文献

Orobanche foetida is widely distributed in western Mediterranean countries infecting wild legumes. Recently it has been reported in Morocco infecting common vetch, presenting a further constraint for legume production in this area. Comparative studies between Orobanche populations attacking wild species and Orobanche populations growing on crops from the same region may help to clarify whether a host specialisation process occurred. In the present study, the genetic variability of five O. foetida populations, four infecting wild plants and one infecting cultivated vetch in Morocco was characterised using amplified fragment‐length polymorphism (AFLP) markers to elucidate the existing genetic relationship between populations and to suggest a potential origin for the recently detected vetch‐infecting population. Analysis of molecular variance suggested the existence of genotypic differentiation among populations. The most genetic divergent population by cluster analysis was the population collected on Ornithopus sativus. The vetch‐infecting O. foetida population was closer to the three populations infecting Scorpiurus muricatus. The possibility of the presence of a reservoir of diversity is balanced against direct genetic adaptation and completely new introduction. The potential for this Orobanche species to shift host and become a threat to agriculture exists and has to be taken into account for future legume breeding for these areas.  相似文献

The processes that control the spatial distribution of North Sea whiting (Merlangius merlangus) spawning adults are investigated using a statistical multi‐model approach. Models of external and internal controls on the population, such as environmental conditions, spatial constraints, present or past spatial distribution, and demographic state of the population, are evaluated, compared and ranked to select those that are the best able to predict the observed distribution of spawning adults. Model selection is greatly influenced by the selection method, either based on data fitting or prediction, as well as by the threshold value used to stop the selection. Model selection based on prediction tends to select simpler models than selection based on data fitting. The hypotheses underlying the selected models are inferred to play a significant role in controlling North Sea whiting spatial distribution. The multi‐model inference approach developed in this study enables comparison of several theoretical concepts and hypotheses and the results provide important clues on the processes involved in the control of the spatial distribution of whiting. We conclude that whiting has a high spatial fidelity to spawning site which can be linked to either geographical attachment or year‐to‐year persistence of the spatial distribution of the population. Environmental factors – temperature and salinity – appear to influence the geographical extent of spawning whiting distribution, whereas local abundance levels are primarily controlled by internal factors, i.e., population size and spatial segregation between ages.  相似文献
