A Comparison of Injectable Anesthetic Combinations in Horses   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Six combinations of injectable anesthetic agents were administered to six adult horses in a Latin square design. The drug combinations were xylazine-ketamine, xylazine-butorphanol-ketamine, xylazine-tiletamine-zolazepam, xylazine-butorphanol-tiletamine-zolazepam, detomidine-ketamine, and detomidine-butorphanol-ketamine. Measured variables were heart rate, respiratory rate, systolic blood pressure, arterial pH (pHa), PaCO2, PaO2, recumbency time, and number of attempts necessary to stand. Quality of induction and recovery, muscle relaxation, and response to stimulus were evaluated subjectively. The horses required significantly more attempts to stand after administration of xylazine-tiletamine-zolazepam, xylazine-butorphanol-tiletamine-zolazepam, and detomidine-ketamine than after xylazine-ketamine, xylazine-butorphanol-ketamine, or detomidine-butorphanol-ketamine. Mean recumbency times varied from 23.0 minutes with xylazine-ketamine to 41.3 minutes with xylazine-butorphanol-tiletamine-zolazepam. There were significant differences in mean heart rates at minute 15, mean respiratory rates at minutes 5, 10 and 15, and mean systolic blood pressures at minute 10 of anesthesia. There were no significant differences in pHa, PaCO2 or PaO2.  相似文献

The uptake of 2,4,5-T by spines of gorse (Ulex europaeus L.) was limited and not enhanced when picloram was added to the application solution. Translocation of 2,4,5-T in 6-month-old cuttings after treatment of a single spine or lateral branch was poor. The most significant accumulation of translocated herbicide occurred in stem tissue, with lesser amounts detected in root tissues, root nodules, stem apices and flowers. Untreated lateral branches or spines accumulated minimal amounts of herbicide. The pattern and extent of distribution of 2,4,5-T was not increased by addition of picloram. The lack of efficient control of gorse by 2,4,5-T can largely be attributed to its inadequate uptake and lack of true systemic translocation.  相似文献

Two suture techniques for tracheal anastomosis after large-segment tracheal resection were compared. Eight cartilages were resected from the trachea of each of 12 dogs; anastomoses with 4-0 polydioxanone suture were created using a simple continuous suture technique in six dogs and a simple interrupted suture technique in six dogs. Surgical time was shorter but apposition of tracheal segments at the time of surgery was less precise with the simple continuous suture technique. The dogs were evaluated for 150 days after surgery. Clinical abnormalities after tracheal resection and anastomosis were not observed. Percent dorsoventral luminal stenosis was calculated by measuring the tracheal lumen diameter on lateral cervical radiographs. Percent luminal stenosis was calculated planimetrically using a computerized digitizing tablet. Anastomotic stenosis was mild in all dogs; however, the mean percent luminal stenosis determined planimetrically was significantly greater for dogs that had the simple continuous suture technique. Planimetric measurements of cross-sectional area made before and after formalin fixation were not significantly different. Radiographic determination of percent dorsoventral luminal stenosis was a poor predictor of diminution of cross-sectional area determined planimetrically.  相似文献

Objective—To determine the safety and efficacy of propofol, after detomidine-butorphanol premedication, for induction and anesthetic maintenance for carotid artery translocation and castration or ovariectomy in goats. Study Design—Case series. Animals—Nine 4-month-old Spanish goats (17.1 ± 2.6 kg) were used to evaluate propofol anesthesia for carotid artery translocation and castration or ovariectomy. Methods—Goats were premedicated with detomidine (10 μg/kg intramuscularly [IM]) and butorphanol (0.1 mg/kg IM) and induced with an initial bolus of propofol (3 to 4 mg/kg intravenously [IV]). If necessary for intubation, additional propofol was given in 5-mg (IV) increments. Propofol infusion (0.3 mg/kg/min IV) was used to maintain anesthesia, and oxygen was insufflated (5 L/min). The infusion rate was adjusted to maintain an acceptable anesthetic plane as determined by movement, muscle relaxation, ocular signs, response to surgery, and cardiopulmonary responses. Systolic (SAP), mean (MAP) and diastolic (DAP) arterial pressures, heart rate (HR), ECG, respiratory rate (RR), Spo2, and rectal temperature (T) were recorded every 5 minutes postinduction; arterial blood gas samples were collected every 15 minutes. Normally distributed data are represented as mean ± SD; other data are medians (range). Results—Propofol (4.3 ± 0.9 mg/kg IV) produced smooth, rapid (15.2 ± 6 sec) sternal recumbency. Propofol infusion (0.52 ± 0.11 mg/kg/min IV) maintained anesthesia. Mean anesthesia time was 83 ± 15 minutes. Muscle relaxation was good; eye signs indicated surgical anesthesia; two goats moved before surgery began; one goat moved twice during laparotomy. Means are reported over the course of the data collection period. Means during the anesthesia for pHa (arterial PH), Paco2, Pao2, HCO3, and BE (base excess) ranged from 7.233 ± 0.067 to 7.319 ± 0.026, 54.1 ± 4.6 to 65.3 ± 12.0 mm Hg, 133.1 ± 45.4 to 183.8 ± 75.1 mm Hg, 26.9 ± 2.6 to 28.2 ± 2.1 mEq/L, and -0.8 ± 2.9 to 1.4 ± 2.2 mEq/L. Means over time for MAP were 53 ± 12 to 85 ± 21 mm Hg. Mean HR varied over time from 81 ± 6 to 91 ± 11 beats/minute; mean RR, from 9 ± 8 to 15 ± 5 breaths/minute; Spo2, from 97 ± 3% to 98 ± 3%; mean T, from 36.0 ± 0.6±C to 39.1 ± 0.7±C. Over time, Spo2 and Sao2 did not change significantly; HR, RR, T, and Paco2 decreased significantly; SAP, DAP, MAP, pHa, Pao2, and BE increased significantly. HCO3 concentrations increased significantly, peaking at 45 minutes. Recoveries were smooth and rapid; the time from the end of propofol infusion to extubation was 7.3 ± 3 minutes, to sternal was 9.2 ± 5 minutes, and to standing was 17.7 ± 4 minutes. Median number of attempts to stand was two (range of one to four). Postoperative pain was mild to moderate. Conclusions—Detomidine-butorphanol-propofol provided good anesthesia for carotid artery translocation and neutering in goats. Clinical Relevance—Detomidine-butorphanol-propofol anesthesia with oxygen insufflation may be safely used for surgical intervention in healthy goats.  相似文献

Previous studies have indicated that detoxification of their hosts' phytoalexins is a tolerance mechanism for some true fungi, but not the fungus-like Oomycota, and may be involved in determining the virulence of a pathogen. In the present study, the associations between demethylation of the pea phytoalexin pisatin, tolerance to pisatin, and virulence on pea were examined for 50 fungal isolates which represent 17 species of pathogens and nonpathogens of pea. All isolates ofPythium coloratum and P. irregulare failed to metabolize and were sensitive to pisatin, consistent with previous observations that members of the Oomycota generally lack the ability to metabolize and are sensitive to their hosts' phytoalexins. Among true fungi tested, the ability to demethylate pisatin was common, regardless of whether the particular isolate was pathogenic on pea or not. However, when the rate of pisatin demethylation was compared to virulence, all but one of the moderate to highly virulent isolates rapidly demethylated pisatin. In addition, the more rapidly demethylating isolates were generally more tolerant of pisatin. These results suggest that a specialized enzyme system for quickly detoxifying pisatin might be present in most pea pathogens. In previous studies a specific cytochrome P450 enzyme for demethylating pisatin was identified in the pea pathogen Nectria haematococca mating population VI, and genes (PDA genes) encoding that enzyme have been cloned from this fungus. When DNA specific for these genes was used to probe genomic DNA from other fungi that demethylate pisatin, significant hybridization was detected with only one fungus, the pea pathogen Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. pisi. If the other pea pathogens possess a specific cytochrome P450 system for detoxification of pisatin, the genes encoding these enzymes apparently share limited nucleotide similarity with N. haematococca PDA genes.  相似文献

Eight synthetic casting materials were evaluated with respect to tensile and fatigue strengths, exothermicity (evolution of heat during polymerization), permeability (porosity), radiolucency, and cost. Strength determination for a five-layer sample included measurement of the ultimate load at which a material failed, the ability to absorb energy, and the stiffness a material possessed after application of a cyclic stress. Results indicated that Vet Cast was superior with respect to tensile and fatigue strengths. The exothermic reaction associated with the "curing" or polymerization process was evaluated and not considered excessive although Ultra Cast attained a temperature of 48.0°C and was uncomfortable to handle during application. Permeability was determined. Delta Lite and Hexcelite NS were the most permeable materials and dried more rapidly and thoroughly after immersion than the other casting materials. Hexcelite NS was considered the least radiolucent material and was the most expensive material studied. Each of the synthetic casting materials demonstrated superiority in one or more of the categories tested. No one product demonstrated consistent superiority in criteria appropriate for clinical application.  相似文献

Abstract. Juvenile carp, Cyprinus carpio L., were immunized against Ichthyophthirius multifiliis following controlled exposure to the infective theront stage. On challenge, with a potentially lethal dose of theronts, all immunized fish survived, in contrast to 100% mortality in non-immunized fish. Fourteen days following exposure to the challenge infection, immune and non-immune fish were injected intraperitoneally with either triamcinolone acetonide or hydrocortisone 21-hemisuccinate (cortisol) at doses of 100 μg or 10 μg/g body weight. Controls, including immunized and non-immunized fish, were injected with saline or left untreated. Six days following corticosteroid administration, fish were exposed to challenge infections of I multifiliis. All fish treated with corticosteroid developed heavy infections with up to 100% mortality. Repeat experiments gave comparable results. Serum antibody levels recorded in similarly treated fish at intervals of 12 h and/or 1 week following corticosteroid administration were found to be relatively unaffected. Minimally displaced, spiral, radial fractures were diagnosed in three adult horses. Two horses had open fractures and in one horse the fracture was closed. A diagnosis was made on radiographs taken 24 h, 5, and 9 days after the fracture. There was minimal displacement of the fracture fragments despite the considerable time which had elapsed between fracture and diagnosis and an unfavourable prognosis with internal fixation, so conservative therapy was the preferred method of treatment. One horse developed a sequestrum and draining sinus, which was treated surgically under general anaesthesia 3 months after diagnosis of the fracture. Other complications were minimal and transient. Two horses were being used for pleasure riding 12 months after fracture and one horse was pasture sound at 8 months.  相似文献

Plant protection products often need to be applied to small areas, inaccessible to vehicular equipment, hence the need for manually carried equipment. While there are lever-operated knapsack and compression sprayers using conventional hydraulic nozzles, reduced-volume applications have been developed in combination with the use of rotary atomizers to provide a narrow droplet spectrum. Most of the initial development of these hand-carried battery-operated spinning disc sprayers was for their use in the semi-arid tropics to apply insecticides to cotton in the absence of plentiful water supplies. This continues to be the main market for these sprayers, although the trend recently has been away from oil-based ultra-low volume formulations to very-low volume spraying (typically 5-1 5 litre ha1) of water-based formulations to reduce costs and allow greater flexibility in choice of insecticide in integrated pest management programmes. Changes in equipment design have been made to suit this change in spray volume and formulation. Air-assisted sprayers have also been used in glasshouses. Subsequent development of rotary atomizers operated at slower speeds has led to the equipment being used for herbicide application. especially in forestry and urban situations where low weight of equipment and drift reduction have been important considerations. Formulations prepacked in containers to connect directly to the sprayers have been used to reduce operator contamination.  相似文献
