In agroforestry systems, the distribution of light transmitted under tree canopies can be a limiting factor for the development of intercrops. The light available for intercrops depends on the quantity of light intercepted by tree canopies and, consequently, on the architecture of the tree species present. The influence of tree architecture on light transmission was analysed using dynamic 3D architectural models. The architectural analysis of Acacia mangium and Tectona grandis was performed in Indonesian agroforestry systems with trees aged from 1 to 3 years. 3D virtual trees were then generated with the AmapSim simulation software and 3D virtual experiments in which tree age, planting density, planting pattern and pruning intensity varied were reconstructed in order to simulate light available for the crop. Canopy closure of trees was more rapid in A. mangium than in T. grandis agroforestry systems; after 3 years the quantity of light available for A. mangium intercrops was three times lower than under T. grandis. Simulations with A. mangium showed that practices such as pruning and widening tree spacing enable to increase the total transmitted light within the stand. On T. grandis, modification of the tree row azimuth resulted in changes in the spatial and seasonal distribution of light available for the intercrops. These results are discussed in terms of agroforestry system management.

Neonicotinoids represent a class of insect-selective ligands of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. Imidacloprid, the first commercially used neonicotinoid insecticide, has been studied on neuronal preparations from many insects to date. Here we report first intrinsic binding data of thiamethoxam, using membranes from Myzus persicae Sulzer and Aphis craccivora Koch. In both aphids, specific binding of [3H]thiamethoxam was sensitive to temperature, while the absolute level of non-specific binding was not affected. In M persicae, binding capacity (Bmax) for [3H]thiamethoxam was ca 450 fmol mg(-1) of protein at 22 degrees C and ca 700 fmol mg(-1) of protein at 2 degrees C. The negative effect of increased temperature was reversible and hence not due to some destructive process. The affinity for [3H]thiamethoxam was less affected by temperature: Kd was ca 11 nM at 2 degrees C and ca 15 nM at 22 degrees C. The membranes also lost binding sites for [3H]thiamethoxam during prolonged storage at room temperature, and upon freezing and thawing. In A craccivora, [3H]thiamethoxam was bound with a capacity of ca 1000 fmol mg(-1) protein and an affinity of ca 90 nM, as measured at 2 degrees C. Overall, the in vitro temperature sensitivity of [3H]thiamethoxam binding was in obvious contrast to the behaviour of [3H]imidacloprid studied in parallel. Moreover, the binding of [3H]thiamethoxam was inhibited by imidacloprid in a non-competitive mode, as shown with M persicae. In our view, these differences demonstrate that thiamethoxam and imidacloprid, which represent different structural sub-classes of neonicotinoids, do not share the same binding site or mode. An 8‐year‐old Labrador Retriever was presented for inspiratory efforts with stertor. A rhinoscopy and a magnetic resonance imaging scan were performed and revealed a naso‐pharyngeal mass. The mass was identified in the nasopharynx without meningeal extension. This mass was both T1‐ and T2‐hyperintense, compared to normal brain parenchyma without significant postcontrast enhancement. The mass was surgically removed and the histologic diagnosis was a mesenchymal tumor. Immunohistochemistry with antibodies was conducted and consistent with an extracranial meningioma. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first case report documenting a primary extracranial nasopharyngeal meningioma in a dog.  相似文献

Purpose

Technosol management is one of the greatest challenges for the future, more specifically as regards supporting and/or restoring ecosystems. The understanding of natural soil organic matter (SOM) dynamic from Technosol may give important information about soil functioning and Technosol evolution.

Materials and methods

According to this, SOM from three French old mine Technosols, (an old tin mine, a lead and zinc, and a gold one which is arsenic-rich), were studied and characterized using thermochemolysis coupled with gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC-MS) with tetramethyl ammonium hydroxide (TMAH) as reagent and FTIR. The characterization and quantification of some specific biomacromolecules, used as biomarkers, indicate the specific level of incorporation relative to various subgroups. Global parameters of soils (pH, total organic matter, cation exchange capacity…) were also evaluated.

Results and discussion

Results on bulk samples show that lipids are the most reactive group and therefore play the most important role in young soil pedogenesis. All of the results show that the behavior of SOM of the Technosol is similar to homolog non-anthropized soil and depends on vegetation type.

Conclusions

A slight inhibition of bacterial activity is observed which underlines a protective effect of Technosols on SOM degradation due to the low pH, the high clay content, and the presence of Al3+ and metal(loid)s. In fine, lipid fraction of SOM may act as a well-done fingerprint of pedogenesis processes in Technosols.

Nowadays, biofouling is responsible for enormous economic losses in the maritime sector, and its treatment with conventional antifouling paints is causing significant problems to the environment. Biomimetism and green chemistry approaches are very promising research strategies for the discovery of new antifouling compounds. This study focused on the red alga Sphaerococcus coronopifolius, which is known as a producer of bioactive secondary metabolites. Fifteen compounds, including bromosphaerol (1), were tested against key marine biofoulers (five marine bacteria and three microalgae) and two enzymes associated with the adhesion process in macroalgae and invertebrates. Each metabolite presented antifouling activity against at least one organism/enzyme. This investigation also revealed that two compounds, sphaerococcinol A (4) and 14R-hydroxy-13,14-dihydro-sphaerococcinol A (5), were the most potent compounds without toxicity towards oyster larvae used as non-target organisms. These compounds are of high potential as they are active towards key biofoulers and could be produced by a cultivable alga, a fact that is important from the green chemistry point of view.  相似文献

Purpose

Soil provides important ecosystemic services, in particular through its biodiversity, which plays a major role for humans. It is therefore essential to detect and, above all, quantify soil DNA in order to better understand and conserve this biodiversity. However, the techniques commonly used are not specific and do not always allow an easy and reliable detection in complex matrices rich in organic matter. The aim of this article is to develop an effective method to quantify DNA whatever the type of soil matrix.

Materials and methods

Two reference clays (kaolinite and montmorillonite which are ubiquitous in soils but present very different physicochemical properties) and two soils (Cambisols and Andosols with different mineralogy, organic matter content, and properties) were used for this purpose. The developed method, based on the use of diphenylamine with colorimetric detection at 600 nm, was compared to the traditional method (absorption at 260 nm).

Results and discussion

The results highlight the independence of the method in terms of organic matter content or soil type, as well as its simplicity and low cost. It opens up important possibilities of application, such as a better understanding of the interactions between DNA and mineral supports, as well as the effects of mineral species. As an illustration, the method was applied to study the sorption of calf thymus DNA on various substrates with or without humic acid for a specific concentration. DNA sorption has been successfully adjusted by the Langmuir model.

Conclusions

The method is specific and can be easily used in complex matrices commonly found in soils, regardless of the different properties in terms of mineralogical content, presence of organic matter, or physicochemical properties.
