The molecular profile of 30 Moraxella bovis strains, recovered from outbreaks of infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis in Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay between 1974 and 2001, was determined through randomly applied polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis. Molecular profiles of nine strains recovered after 1990 varied from those recovered before 1990. The profiles of 13 strains (48%) differed from those of three vaccinal strains extensively used since 1984 in Argentina and Uruguay. Eight Argentinean strains, one from Brazil and two from Uruguay had identical RAPD profiles. Strains belonging to different serogroups had identical RAPD profiles, demonstrating that this technique was not able to discriminate among strains with low cross-reactivity indices. RAPD may be helpful in the primary characterization of M. bovis strains, but it does not replace serological characterization.  相似文献

Cross-reactivity indices (CRIs) of 28 isolates of Moraxella bovis recovered from outbreaks of infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis in Argentina (A, 11 isolates), Brazil (B, 7), and Uruguay (U, 10) between 1983 and 2000 were estimated. Hyperimmune sera were produced in rabbits and antibody titres determined with each isolate. Isolates showing CRIs3 70 were placed in the same group. Group I had 13 isolates (A, 1; B, 6; U, 6); group II had 6 isolates (A, 4; U, 2); groups III, IV, and V had 2 isolates each, recovered in Argentina; group VI had 2 isolates, from Uruguay; and group VII had 1 isolate, from Brazil. The CRIs3 70 between vaccine strains and isolates recovered before and after 1990 were 58% and 42%, 50% and 50%, and 33% and 67% with vaccine strains 2419, 2358, and 2439, respectively. Isolate 273, from Uruguay, showed CRIs > 70 with 78% of the isolates and is recommended as the vaccine strain.  相似文献

Several studies have shown the benefit of the use of probiotics in the prevention and treatment of diseases; however, few of them have investigated the effect of probiotics on parasitosis. In this study, the effect of Saccharomyces boulardii on the intensity of infection of mice with toxocariasis was evaluated. The animals were fed with a diet supplemented with S. boulardii for 15 days before inoculation with Toxocara canis eggs and for 2 or 60 days post-inoculation. S. boulardii promoted a reduction of approximately 36% in the average number of recovered T. canis larvae, suggesting that it can be used as an alternative to help control toxocariasis.  相似文献

In the last 15 years gold mining activity has been the main source of the mercury (Hg) emissions into the atmosphere in the Amazon Basin. The first phase of gold production takes place in remote areas. In general the second one happens in the local urban area, where the gold is commercialized and sent to the great economic centers. In the last 3 years, this activity started to decline as a consequence of the high cost of the gold production but in the Municipality of Alta Floresta, the gold trade still plays an important role in the local economy. This paper addresses the assessment of the Hg exposure scenarios and their quantitative risk for inhalation of metallic Hg vapor and for ingestion of total Hg, using indirect exposure measurements, for different age groups of the urban area of Alta Floresta. This work took into account the field study which provided background information, such as characteristics of local and regional environment, Hg concentrations in different environmental media, and the character of the local urban population. The mean levels of Hg in the atmosphere of the urban area ranged from 210 ng/m3 to 880 ng/m3. Alta Floresta has no riverside population and there is a low fish consumption rate of 8 g/d among the general population. However, mercury levels in locally consumed carnivorous fish, ranged from 0.3 to 3.6 mg/kg, depending on the species and on the period of the year. The levels of mercury in soil surrounding the residential areas near the Hg emissions sources, ranged from 0.05 to 4.10 mg/kg. Hg in soil may represent an important source of mercury ingestion for local children up to 4 years of age. The mean Hazard Index estimated for the general adult population was 1.4. For the general population, regarding the number of persons exposed in the urban area, inhalation of metallic Hg vapor is the main route of exposure. The results for water ingestion for all groups are negligible. For families of fishermen the Hazard Index was estimated to be 9.3, with a contribution of 92% from fish ingestion.  相似文献

Enzootic pneumonia (EP), resulting from Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae infection is one of the most prevalent diseases in pigs and is a major cause of economic losses to the swine industry worldwide. EP is often controlled by vaccination with inactivated, adjuvanted whole-cell bacterin. However, these bacterins provide only partial protection and do not prevent M. hyopneumoniae colonization. Attempts to develop vaccines that are more efficient have made use of the recombinant DNA technology. The objective of this study was to assess the potential of recombinant M. hyopneumoniae heat shock protein P42 in vaccine preparations against EP, using piglets housed under field conditions in a M. hyopneumoniae-positive farm. The cellular and humoral immune responses were elicited after a single intramuscular inoculation of rP42 in an oil-based adjuvant, or in conjunction with whole-cell vaccine preparation. The production of INF-γ and IL-10 cytokines was quantified in the supernatant of the cultured mononuclear cells. The rP42 emulsified in oil-based adjuvant was able to trigger a strong humoral immune response. Further, it induced a cellular immune response, accompanied by the production of antibodies that reacted with the native M. hyopneumoniae protein. The rP42 mediated induction of cellular and humoral immune response in the host suggests that rP42 emulsified in an oil-based adjuvant holds promise as an effective recombinant subunit vaccine against EP.  相似文献
