A comparative study was conducted to evaluate four previously reported methods that proved to have a recovery greater than 80% for the determination of different levels of ochratoxin A (OTA) in green and roasted coffee beans and to select an accurate, sensitive, and less-expensive technique between the existing methods. The results indicated that the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC) official method for the extraction of OTA in green coffee and determination by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is recommended as an efficient method for the routine analyses of OTA in green and ground roasted coffee beans. This method proved to be an accurate, sensitive, and less-expensive method that employs routine materials and available equipment. Although the immunoaffinity column/HPLC procedure tested showed a significantly higher percentage than the AOAC recommended method, it is recommended for use in processed coffee beans where low concentrations of OTA may be expected to be detected.  相似文献

Two experiments were carried out during two successive seasons to investigate the response of Dracocephalum moldavica L. (dragonhead) to various plant densities and compost applications. Compost levels had a promoting influence on most of vegetative growth parameters and accelerated essential oil accumulation and chemical constituents including total carbohydrate and photosynthetic pigments content. Similarly, wider plant spacing showed the greatest effect on growth components and chemical constituents. Generally, the maximum rate of compost (39.6 t/ha) combined with wider distance between plants (40 cm) had a favorable effect on most of growth characters. The same treatment gave the highest mean value for essential oil yield during the first season while the same compost rate combined with the medium distance (30 cm) gave the highest value during the second season. The main constituent of the essential oil was linalool followed by geranial. On the other hand, compost levels combined with different distances had a pronounced effect on the various essential oil constituents. It can be decisived that there is no significant difference between wider distance (40 cm) and medium one (30 cm); so, it can be recommended to apply the maximum level of compost (39.6 t/ha) combined with medium distance.  相似文献

The principal finding of the study is that social power positions held by Egyptian farmers sharings a common watercourse do not have significant influence in the farmer's ability to control irrigation water distribution. Other variables used to describe irrigation management; location on the water course and farmers' use of more than one source of water to irrigate; also do not yield any explanations as to why particular farmers have more control over their irrigation than others. Farmers who have more control are less likely to be affected by other farmers' actions, physical problems on delivery canals, breakdown in pumps, and government officials actions. While differences in irrigation control among farmers exist, no single cause is identified. Two explanations for the findings are (1) water control is sufficient for a large percentage of Egyptian farmers, and (2) adequately explaining irrigation behavior cannot be done with separate variables.Deceased  相似文献

One hundred random samples representing 34 species of marketable fish were collected from 8 Egyptian governorates during the period March 1986 to March 1988 and were analyzed for the presence of some organochlorine pesticides. The results showed the predominance of beta-BHC and lindane at maximum levels of 435.30 and 59.00 micrograms/kg, respectively, for fish samples obtained from Damietta governorate. The corresponding levels of aldrin, and o,p'-DDT were 34.27 and 734.10 micrograms/kg, respectively, for fish from the Red Sea governorate. gamma-Chlordane, p,p'-DDE, and p,p'-DDT were found in fish from Ismailia governorate at respective maximum levels of 36.17, 234.40, and 57.19 microgram/kg. Heptachlor was identified at 8.50 micrograms/kg in Port Said governorate fish and o,p'-DDE at 10.59 micrograms/kg in Suez governorate fish. Mirex, on the other hand, could not be detected in any of the samples investigated.  相似文献

The antioxidant activities of astaxanthin and related carotenoids have been measured by employing a newly developed fluorometric assay. This assay is based on 4,4-difluoro-3,5-bis(4-phenyl-1, 3-butadienyl)-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene (BODIPY 665/676) as an indicator; 2,2'-azobis-2,4-dimethylvaleronitrile (AMVN) as a peroxyl radical generator; and 6-hydroxy-2,5,7, 8-tetramethylchroman-2-carboxylic acid (Trolox) as a calibrator in an organic and liposomal media. By employing this assay, three categories of carotenoids were examined: namely, the hydrocarbon carotenoids lycopene, alpha-carotene, and beta-carotene; the hydroxy carotenoid lutein; and the alpha-hydroxy-ketocarotenoid astaxanthin. The relative peroxyl radical scavenging activities of Trolox, astaxanthin, alpha-tocopherol, lycopene, beta-carotene, lutein, and alpha-carotene in octane/butyronitrile (9:1, v/v) were determined to be 1.0, 1.0, 1.3, 0.5, 0.4, 0.3, and 0.2, respectively. In dioleoylphosphatidyl choline (DOPC) liposomal suspension in Tri-HCl buffer (pH 7.4 at 40 degrees C), the relative reactivities of astaxanthin, beta-carotene, alpha-tocopherol, and lutein were found to be 1.00, 0.9, 0.6, and 0.6, respectively. When BODIPY 665/676 was replaced by 4,4-difluoro-5-(4-phenyl-1,3-butadienyl)-4-bora-3a, 4a-diaza-s-indacene-3-undecanoic acid (BODIPY 581/591 C(11)) as an indicator, astaxanthin showed the highest antioxidant activity toward peroxyl radicals. The relative reactivities of Trolox, astaxanthin, alpha-tocopherol, alpha-carotene, lutein, beta-carotene, and lycopene were determined to be 1.0, 1.3, 0.9, 0.5, 0.4, 0.2, and 0.4, respectively.  相似文献
