Formalin is used in shrimp industry to eliminate ectoparasites and as a disinfectant. However, the effect of formalin on shrimp's defense mechanism is unknown. Several biomarkers were used to assess the immune response of juveniles of the shrimp Litopenaeus schmitti exposed to different concentrations of formalin (10, 25 and 50 mg L?1) during 24 and 48 h. Formalin concentrations of 25 and 50 mg L?1 produced a significant reduction in the total haemocyte count at both 24 and 48 h. Peroxidase and phenoloxidase activity did not show variations. The total protein concentration in haemolymph of shrimps was not significantly different between experimental groups. Histological analysis showed hyperplasia in the gills of animals exposed at 10 mg L?1 for 24 h; however, the exposure at 25 and 50 mg L?1 caused necrosis in gills, hepathopancreas and the antennal gland.  相似文献

Instead of sole nutrient starvation to boost algal lipid production, we addressed nutrient limitation at two different seasons (autumn and spring) during outdoor cultivation in flat panel photobioreactors. Lipid accumulation, biomass and lipid productivity and changes in fatty acid composition of Nannochloropsis oculata were investigated under nitrogen (N) limitation (nitrate:phosphate N:P 5, N:P 2.5 molar ratio). N. oculata was able to maintain a high biomass productivity under N-limitation compared to N-sufficiency (N:P 20) at both seasons, which in spring resulted in nearly double lipid productivity under N-limited conditions (0.21 g L−1 day−1) compared to N-sufficiency (0.11 g L−1 day−1). Saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids increased from 76% to nearly 90% of total fatty acids in N-limited cultures. Higher biomass and lipid productivity in spring could, partly, be explained by higher irradiance, partly by greater harvesting rate (~30%). Our results indicate the potential for the production of algal high value products (i.e., polyunsaturated fatty acids) during both N-sufficiency and N-limitation. To meet the sustainability challenges of algal biomass production, we propose a dual-system process: Closed photobioreactors producing biomass for high value products and inoculum for larger raceway ponds recycling waste/exhaust streams to produce bulk chemicals for fuel, feed and industrial material.  相似文献

Phenoloxidase and peroxidase activity were analysed in haemolymph of juvenile shrimp, Litopenaeus schmitti, exposed to different salinity levels (35%, 18%, 8%) for 48 h. A significant reduction (P<0.05) in total glucose and phenoloxidase activity in animals exposed to lower salinities (18% and 8%) was recorded, while peroxidase activity and total protein concentration did not vary. Histology revealed the occurrence of oedema in gills in shrimp exposed to 8%. The work demonstrates for the first time that in L. schmitti, low salinities can decrease glucose levels in haemolymph and create an immunosuppressive state by reducing phenoloxidase activity.  相似文献

Biodegradation of diesel oil was performed using adiesel oil-degrading bacterial consortium, in bothlaboratory and pilot scale experiments. The bacterialconsortium was prepared in liquid for laboratory testsand for pilot scale experiments, it was prepared intwo steps, liquid and then in soil. The concentrationof diesel in soil treated with the bacterialconsortium was reduced to <15% of the initialconcentration, within a period of five weeks in bothlaboratory (135 to 19.32 g diesel kg (soil dryweight)-1) and pilot scale (118 to 17.5 g dieselkg (soil dry weight)-1) experiments, incomparison with controls (without bacterialconsortium), in which initial concentration of dieselwas reduced by only 5 and 15%, respectively. Dieselbiodegradation rate with the bacterial consortium was2.13 g diesel kg (soil dry weight)-1 d-1, itwas slightly enhanced by the addition ofNH4NO3 in the presence of bacterialconsortium 2.78 g diesel kg (soil dry weight)-1d-1. The enhancement of the microbial activity inhydrocarbon-contaminated soil can be achieved with thecombination of stepwise soil inoculation and nutrient additions.  相似文献
