Soil carbon (C) stocks in forest ecosystems have been widely estimated to a fixed soil depth (i.e., 0-30 cm) to clarify temporal changes in the C pool. However, surface elevations change as a result of compaction or expansion of the soil under forest management and land use. On the other hand, the calculation of soil C stocks based on “equivalent soil mass” is not affected by compaction or expansion of forest soil. To contribute to the development of a forest C accounting methodology, we compared changes in soil C stocks over 4 years between depth- and mass-based approaches using original soil data collected at 0-30 cm depths in young plantations and secondary forests in West Java, Indonesia. Our methodology expanded on the mass-based approach; rather than using one representative value for the mass-based calculation of soil C stocks, we adjusted individual values, maintaining the coefficient of variance in soil mass. We also considered the effect of an increase or decrease in soil organic matter on equivalent soil mass. Both increasing and decreasing trends in soil C stocks became clearer when the mass-based approach was used rather than the depth-based approach. The trends in soil C stocks based on equivalent soil mass were particularly evident in the surface soil layers (0-5 cm) and in plantation sites, compared with those for soil profiles including subsurface soil layers (0-30 cm) and in secondary forests. These trends in soil C stocks corresponded with temporal trends in litter stocks. We suggest that equivalent mass-basis soil C stock for the upper 30 cm of soil be calculated based on multiple soil layers to reduce estimation errors. Changes in soil organic matter mass had little effect on the estimation of soil C stock on an equivalent mass basis. For the development of a forest C accounting system, the mass-based approach should be used to characterize temporal trends in soil C stocks and to improve C cycle models, rather than simpler methods of calculating soil C stocks. These improvements will help to increase the tier level of country-specific forest C accounting systems.  相似文献

Marker-trait associations identified in diverse germplasm can be exploited in crop improvement programs. An attempt to establish such associations was made by evaluating 205 wheat landraces for stripe rust, leaf rust and stem rust responses in the field over three crop seasons. Diversity arrays technology was used to genotype the landraces and associations were identified using a single-marker scan. Sixty-eight markers were significantly associated with rust resistance. Several significantly associated loci coincided with the presence of known major genes or QTL for rust resistance. In contrast, many marker-rust response associations identified in this analysis for each of the three rust diseases uncovered new loci. Dual associations; stripe rust-leaf rust (1AL, 2BS, 2BL, 3DL, 5BS, 6BS and 7DL), leaf rust-stem rust (5BL) and stripe rust-stem rust (4BL and 6AS) resistance were also observed. These associations could enable a cost-effective targeted mapping of dual rust resistance. Some marker-trait associations identified in this study have been validated through genetic analyses and formal naming of resistance loci.  相似文献

1. Energy measurements were made over 4 d on groups of three ducklings (aged from 5 to 22 d), and three broiler chickens (aged from 11 to 32 d) offered high‐ or low‐energy diets.

2. Food, metabolisable energy (ME) and water intakes were significantly higher for ducklings than for chickens. The ratio of water : food was 4.2 : 1 and 2.3 : 1 for ducklings and chickens, respectively. The food conversion ratio differed between diets but not species. Performance was generally better for both species on the high‐energy diet.

3. Heat production, energy, fat and protein retentions were higher for ducklings than chickens, and ducklings retained 0.44 of their energy as fat compared with 0.37 for chickens. Overall the ratio of protein (g) to fat (g) retention was 2.2 : 1 and 2.8 : 1 for ducklings and chickens respectively.

4. For ducklings, metabolisability of the high‐energy diet declined from 0.774 to 0.747, and to a lesser extent of the low‐energy diet, as they aged. There was no such decline for chickens. Net efficiency of utilisation of ME for gain was 0.64 for ducklings compared with 0.50 for chickens.

5. Fractional retention of dietary nitrogen (N) was 0.62 for ducklings and 0.55 for chickens. Gaseous ammonia‐N was 4.5 and 2.2%, respectively, of N retained.

6. In a second experiment groups of ducklings only, were offered high‐and low‐protein diets from 12 to 22 d of age. Comparisons among four diets showed that food and energy intake was lower on the low‐protein diet than on the other three. Energy retention on the high‐energy diet was greater (P<0.05) than on the other three diets.

7. It was concluded that a high‐energy diet is important for ducklings and chickens for maximum biological performance during the first 4 weeks of life.  相似文献

Two studies were conducted to evaluate the effect of nano chromium picolinate (nCrPic) during heat stress (HS) in sheep. In the initial study, 36 Merino × Poll cross-bred sheep were individually penned and allocated to 3 dietary treatments (0, 400 and 800 μg/kg nCrPic) for 8 wk. Body composition was determined at the beginning and end of the experiment using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry. The sheep remained in their dietary groups but were then placed in metabolic cages and randomly allocated within the dietary group to differing ambient temperature regimes, i.e., thermo-neutral (TN) (n = 18) and HS (n = 18), for 3 wk. Dietary nCrPic had no effect on growth performance and body composition during the initial study conducted under TN conditions. Heat stress decreased average daily feed intake (ADFI) (P = 0.002) whereas sheep under HS had reduced average daily gain (ADG) and indeed lost weight (P < 0.001). Dietary nCrPic increased both ADFI (P = 0.041) and ADG (P = 0.049) under both TH and HS conditions such that the performance of sheep receiving supplemental nCrPic and exposed to HS was similar to that of control sheep maintained under TN conditions. Heat stress increased rectal temperature (P < 0.001) and respiration rate (P < 0.001), particularly during the hottest parts of the day as indicated by interactions (P < 0.001) between time of day and thermal treatment. Rectal temperature was lower in sheep fed nCrPic (P = 0.050), particularly under peak HS conditions during the afternoon as indicated by the interactions between dietary nCrPic and time of day (P < 0.001) and dietary nCrPic, thermal treatment and time of day (P = 0.010). Similarly, respiration rate was lower in sheep fed nCrPic under peak HS conditions during the afternoon as indicated by the interactions between dietary nCrPic and thermal treatment (P < 0.001) and dietary nCrPic and time of day (P = 0.030). In conclusion, dietary nCrPic can partially ameliorate the negative effects of HS as indicated by the maintenance of ADFI and decreased physiological responses, such as elevations in rectal temperature and respiration rate.  相似文献

Oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB) composting is increasingly being considered by tropical farmers as a worthwhile alternative to direct spreading in the field. EFB are ligno-cellulose residues comprising 46% cellulose and 16.5% lignin with a high C:N ratio ranging from 45 to 70. In hot regions, it is essential to control variations in the water content of the substrate. This case study set out to optimize the EFB composting procedure by monitoring two key factors, namely the nutritional balance of the biomass and its water content. The trial was conducted on a composting platform belonging to the PT SMART Tbk company (Indonesia) in windrows comprising shredded EFB watered weekly with oil mill effluents. The quantity of effluent to be added was calculated so as to systematically top up to 60% humidity. The initial C:N ratio of the EFB was reduced by urea and/or ripe compost applications (seeding). Application times and rates were studied on two windrows, one in an open area, the other in an area sheltered by a roof to prevent over-rapid drying. After ten weeks the compost could be considered ripe for all the treatments; at that stage, composting had reduced the volume and initial weight of the fresh EFB by 85% and 50% respectively. The combined action of a temperature rise and windrow turning led to substantial water losses through evaporation, resulting in a sudden drop in windrow humidity at the start of composting. When rainfall was insufficient, effluent applications became essential. The total amount of effluent to be applied during composting (without rainfall) was around 3 m3 per initial tonne of EFB. This amount approximately corresponded to the standard effluents : EFB ratio in the oil mill. Inoculation of the mass of EFB to be composted with ripe compost had a significant effect on the speed with which the mixture was reduced. A urea application a fortnight after the start of fermentation seemed to be beneficial. The resulting compost had a good agronomic value. However, the mineral balance was considerably affected, as the nutrients provided by the effluents were poorly retained by the substrate, and partially lost in percolation water following the weekly watering operations. For instance, almost 50% of the phosphorus, 70% of the potassium, 45% of the magnesium and between 10% and 20% of the calcium theoretically applied were lost ten weeks into the trial. Better distribution of the effluent applications, combined with a system to recover the leachings, should substantially reduce these losses, while maintaining suitable humidity for microbial degradation.  相似文献

A study was conducted on 20 "Rahmani" male lambs of 16 kg body weight fed on normal feed level and high vitamin A level (NF-HV); normal feed level and normal vitamin A level (NF-NV); low feed level and high vitamin A level (LF-HV) or low feed level and normal vitamin A level (LF-NV) till slaughter weight of 35-40 kg. Average daily gains of lambs were 211, 148, 117 and 87 g for the NF-HV, NF-NV, LF-HV and LF-NV groups, respectively. The corresponding feed conversions were 4.3, 5.9, 5.0 and 6.4 kg DM/kg gain. Raising feed intake and vitamin A level enhanced nutrients digestibility and nitrogen balance. Rumen liquor reflected higher pH value in animals fed higher intake (NF) in the first two diets. Both feed intake and vitamin A levels enhanced volatile fatty acids and ammonia concentrations in the rumen liquor. Feed intake and vitamin A levels positively affected haemoglobin content, packed cell volume, glucose, urea, total protein, vitamin A, insulin, cholesterol, phospholipids, glutamate oxaloacetate and glutamate pyruvate transaminases and alkaline phosphatase in blood Vitamin A, insulin, cholesterol and phospholipids in blood increased gradually over the experimental period. Dressing percentages were 56.2, 49.6, 49.1 and 44.6% for the experimental groups, respectively. Liver content of glycogen and vitamin A increased with increasing feed intake and vitamin A levels. It is concluded that higher levels of vitamin A supplementation (than usually recommended) is required during fattening of lambs. Low energy and normal vitamin A levels are not recommended in lambs feeding.  相似文献

The primary purpose of water aeration is to increase the oxygen saturation of the water. This can be achieved by using hydraulic structures because of substantial air bubble entrainment at these structures. This paper reviewed the literature on hydraulic structures used in water aeration processes. The hydraulic structures were divided into two groups as the high-head flow systems and the free-surface flow systems. The high-head flow systems were circular and venturi nozzles, pipe with venturi tube, and high-head conduit, and the free-surface flow systems were weir, stepped cascade, and free-surface conduit. Air/water flow ratio and aeration efficiency in circular nozzles with air holes and venturi nozzles were significantly high. Pipes with venturi tubes showed high aeration efficiency although they had low air/water flow ratio. In high-head and free-surface conduits, almost full oxygen transfer, up to the saturation value, occurred. Forty-five degrees triangular sharp-crested weir had significantly better air/water flow ratio and aeration efficiency than other sharp-crested weir shapes. Stepped cascades, in particular nappe flow regime, were very efficient means of aeration.  相似文献

Models created by the intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and D-galactosamine (D-GalN) have been widely used to study the pathogenesis of human acute liver failure (ALF) and drug development. Our previous study reported that oyster (Crassostrea gigas) hydrolysate (OH) had a hepatoprotective effect in LPS/D-GalN-injected mice. This study was performed to identify the hepatoprotective effect of the tyrosine-alanine (YA) peptide, the main component of OH, in a LPS/D-GalN-injected ALF mice model. We analyzed the effect of YA on previously known mechanisms of hepatocellular injury in the model. LPS/D-GalN-injected mice showed inflammatory, apoptotic, ferroptotic, and pyroptotic liver injury. The pre-administration of YA (10 mg/kg or 50 mg/kg) significantly reduced the liver damage factors. The hepatoprotective effect of YA was higher in the 50 mg/kg YA pre-administered group than in the 10 mg/kg YA pre-administered group. These results showed that YA had a hepatoprotective effect by reducing inflammation, apoptosis, ferroptosis, and pyroptosis in the LPS/D-GalN-injected ALF mouse model. We suggest that YA can be used as a functional peptide for the prevention of acute liver injury.  相似文献
