ABSTRACT

The effectiveness of N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide (NBPT) in reducing ammonia volatilization from urea-based fertilizers has been thoroughly investigated. However, the stability of this inhibitor during storage of NBPT treated urea and urea ammonium nitrate (UAN) needs further investigation. We compared ammonia volatilization from NBPT treated urea (360 mg NBPT kg?1 urea) and UAN (180 mg NBPT L?1 UAN) that were stored at room temperature for 6, 3 and 0 months. We measured ammonia volatilization with cylindrical chambers fitted with acid-charged discs at five times for 21 d. Total ammonia volatilization (measured as a % of applied nitrogen) was significantly greater in untreated urea and UAN (32% to 33%) than those in NBPT treated urea and UAN (6% to 12%). Reduction of ammonia volatilization was not significantly different among NBPT treated urea (73% to 81%) and UAN (63% to 73%) irrespective of storage time. This implies that farmers can mix their urea-based fertilizers with NBPT formulation 6 months prior to fertilization without compromising the ammonia volatilization reducing property of the NBPT.  相似文献

Elevated concentrations of potentially toxic trace elements in agricultural soils contribute to soil pollution affecting food quality and safety. We assessed pollution levels in agricultural systems, lowland rice (LL) and highland cash crops (HL), by comparing with non-agricultural soils (NA). Correlation analysis and principal component analysis (PCA) were performed, and geo-accumulation index (Igeo) and pollution loading index (PLI) were calculated. Zinc in LL, and Cd in LL and HL, were significantly higher than in NA. The Igeo values of cooper (Cu), lead (Pb), nickel (Ni), zinc (Zn), and cadmium (Cd) ranged from uncontaminated to moderately contaminated (Class 0 to 2) for LL, HL, and NA. Overall, trace element levels were categorized as unpolluted based on PLI. Soil properties significantly correlated with Cu, Pb, Ni, and Zn concentrations but not with Cd. Based on PCA, sources of origin for Cu, Pb, Ni, and Zn were lithogenic, while the sources for Cd was anthropogenic in the studied agricultural soils.  相似文献

Increase in phosphorus (P) availability with fertilizer addition is influenced by soil properties such as P sorption capacity. We investigated P availability changes and response of maize (Zea mays L) to four P fertilizers rates (0, 20, 30 and 40 kg ha?1) in a two-site field experiment, having soils of contrastingly different available P (2.9 and 22.1 mg kg?1) and P sorption capacities (171.9 and 54.2 mg kg?1). Increase in available P was significantly greater in the soil with higher available P but lower P sorption capacity, than in the other; however, yield responses were similar in the two soils. Fertilizer P rates of 30 and 40 kg ha?1 gave significantly greater maize yields than the unfertilized treatment in both soils. Results suggest the need to account for the P sorption capacity when deciding rates of P fertilizers to increase available P in soils.  相似文献

In a greenhouse experiment, P uptake by rye grass (Lolium multiflorium L.), from four representative soils of Sri Lanka were found to be signifikantly correlated with P intensity (r = 0.65**) and quantity (r = 0.68**) measurements. The incorporation of maximum buffer capacity (MBC) values in multiple regression improved the relationship of P uptake with P quantity but not with P intensity. Multiple regression equation indicated that at equal quantity levels, increasing buffer capacity tends to increase P uptake, indicating that the quantity parameter was buffered by MBC. A seedling experiment of 14 days duration using mustard (Brassica juncea L.) seedlings illustrated that P intensity had a more pronounced effect on P uptake (r = 0.80***) than P quantity (r = 0.43*). The incorporation of MBC values improved the relationship between P quantity and P uptake, but unlike the previous experiment the multiple regression equation indicated a negative relationship between MBC and P uptake at equal quantity levels confirming the importance of P intensity when P uptake is considered for a shot period.  相似文献
