Veterinarians and veterinary technicians are at risk for occupational brucellosis. We described the risk factors of occupational brucellosis among veterinary personnel in Turkey. A multicenter retrospective survey was performed among veterinary personnel who were actively working in the field. Of 712 veterinary personnel, 84 (11.8%) had occupational brucellosis. The median number of years since graduation was 7 (interquartile ranges [IQR], 4–11) years in the occupational brucellosis group, whereas this number was 9 (IQR, 4–16) years in the non-brucellosis group (p < 0.001). In multivariable analysis, working in the private sector (odds ratio [OR], 2.8; 95% confidence interval [95% CI], 1.55–5.28, p = 0.001), being male (OR, 4.5; 95% CI, 1.05–18.84, p = 0.041), number of performed deliveries (OR, 1.01; 95% CI, 1.002–1.02, p = 0.014), and injury during Brucella vaccine administration (OR, 5.4; 95% CI, 3.16–9.3, p < 0.001) were found to be risk factors for occupational brucellosis. We suggest that all veterinary personnel should be trained on brucellosis and the importance of using personal protective equipment in order to avoid this infection.  相似文献

The aim of the current study was to evaluate the effects of high carbohydrate or fat diets, fed for 15 days at the end of breeding season, on leptin, GH and LH secretions in prepubertal fat‐tailed Tuj lambs. For that purpose, 9‐month‐old ram‐lambs were divided into three groups as control group (fed with basal ration, n = 4), high carbohydrate (HC) group, basal ration plus barley, n = 4), or high fat (HF) group (basal ration plus by‐pass fat, n = 4). For the measurement of leptin and GH, blood plasma samples were collected on days 1, 4, 9 and 14 of the experiment. For the measurement of LH pulse frequency, serial blood samples were collected every 15 min for 6 h on day 14. Lambs were weighed and body condition scored (BCS) on days 1 and 15. Body weight and BCS increased towards the end of the study (p < 0.05). The BCS was higher in high energy groups at the end of the experiment (p < 0.05). Diet affected plasma leptin concentrations (p = 0.002) but time did not. The GH concentrations were not affected by diet or time. The LH pulse frequency appeared to be higher in HC and HF groups but there were no statistical difference between the groups. There was a significant positive relationship between overall BCS and corresponding leptin concentrations (R2 = 0.263; p = 0.010) and between LH pulse frequency and leptin concentrations (R2 = 0.594; p = 0.003). In conclusion, the present study suggests that rather than type of energy, amount of energy intake and body energy reserves are much important regulators of plasma leptin concentrations and LH pulse frequency in fat‐tailed Tuj lambs.  相似文献

With this study, the effect of different nitrogen (N) doses applied to sweet herb (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 N kg ha?1) on the macro/micro nutrient element content, dry matter ratio and on the chlorophyll amount in the plant leaves is examined. The research was carried out in the research and trial field of Faculty of Agriculture Agronomy department, Akdeniz University, during the 2012–2013 growing season under field conditions for 2 years with four replications according to the randomized block trial design. Chlorophyll amounts were determined and the average was obtained with three readings from each leaf by a chlorophyll meter when the plants were in the beginning of flowering. Post-harvest macro and micro nutrient elements of the sweet herb were also investigated. According to the obtained data, while the highest chlorophyll and N amounts in the leaf for both the first and second years were determined as 46.97 SPAD (Minolta Corp, NJ, USA) and 1.34 N% 44.9 SPAD, 1.42 N%, respectively, under 200 kg ha?1 N application, the lowest chlorophyll and N amounts were determined in the control group. In addition, N application in different doses for both years increased the phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) contents and increased the microelement contents, especially in the second year. At the same time, a correlation between the chlorophyll content in the plant leaves and the N amount was determined and a linear increase was observed in the chlorophyll amount with the increased green part.  相似文献

Daily pan evaporation modeling using linear genetic programming technique   总被引:3,自引:1,他引:2  
This paper investigates the ability of linear genetic programming (LGP), which is an extension to genetic programming (GP) technique, in daily pan evaporation modeling. The daily climatic data, air temperature, solar radiation, wind speed, pressure and humidity of three automated weather stations, Fresno, Los Angeles and San Diego in California, are used as inputs to the LGP to estimate pan evaporation. The LGP estimates are compared with those of the Gene-expression programming (GEP), which is another branch of GP, multilayer perceptrons (MLP), radial basis neural networks (RBNN), generalized regression neural networks (GRNN) and Stephens–Stewart (SS) models. The performances of the models are evaluated using root mean square errors (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE) and determination coefficient (R 2) statistics. Based on the comparisons, it was found that the LGP technique could be employed successfully in modeling evaporation process from the available climatic data.  相似文献

Salinity limits crop production in large areas of the world. The application of in vitro Photosystem II (PS‐II) activity measurements to screen hexaploid wheat (Triticum aestivum, L.) genotypes for NaCl tolerance has been investigated by comparing their responses under stress and control (no added NaCl) conditions. One of the four cultivars used in the study was ‘Kharchia’ known for its high salt tolerance. Wheat seedlings were grown hydroponically in environmental chambers and treated with a range of NaCl concentrations (0.034 M, 0.17 M, 0.68 M, or 3.42 M) over a 1, 3, and 5‐day period. The salt treatments were started in the appropriate time so that they were all ten‐day‐old during harvest. Cellular membrane stability (CMS) as measured by a conductivity method and PS‐II activity values were affected adversely by NaCl concentration and duration of treatment. Both methods clearly distinguish between salt‐sensitive and salt‐tolerant genotypes. Statistical analysis showed that PS‐II activity and CMS measurements are well correlated (r=0.7589) suggesting that PS‐II activity would be used as an additional screening method besides CMS to evaluate salt tolerance of wheat.  相似文献

Six potato cultivars grown in Turkey in boron-prone areas and differing in their tolerance towards high boron were studied to reveal whether boron causes oxidative stress. To assess stress level, chlorophyll fluorescence and growth parameters were measured. Oxidative damage was assessed as malondialdehyde level, and antioxidant protection was evaluated as ascorbate (AA), dehydroascorbate, reduced glutathione (GSH) and oxidized glutathione amounts and superoxide dismutase, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and glutathione reductase (GR) activities. High boron stress affected photosynthesis negatively in a threshold-dependent manner and inhibited growth. No pronounced changes in oxidation of lipids occurred in any cultivar. Activation of APX suggested the involvement of an ascorbic acid–reduced glutathione cycle in the protection against oxidative stress caused by high boron. Efficient work of this antioxidant system was probably hindered by boron complexation with NAD(P)+/NAD(P)H and resulted in the inhibition of GR and a decrease in AA and GSH. Hence, oxidative stress associated with high boron is a secondary component of boron toxicity which arises from metabolic changes caused by boron interference with major metabolites. Potato cultivars tolerate excess boron stress well and show damage only in very high boron concentrations. The potato cvs best suited for high boron soils/breeding purposes are cvs Van Gogh and Agria.

Gully incision has been eroding the alluvial sediments and loess soils deposited and developed along the valleys in the arid and semiarid regions of Israel. This phenomenon is critical in the arid regions of the Negev Highlands where the agricultural fields, the main floral biomass and the areas which have the highest grazing value, are limited to narrow valleys filled with redeposited loessial sediments. The headcut migration and gully development in the region were studied between 1990 and 2001 in three representative drainage basins (Zipporim, Revivim and Sekher). During flood events, the runoff penetrates the alluvial cover of the valleys, forming vertical headcuts, which gradually retreat up the valley. The runoff is channeled into narrow gullies, preventing the floodwater from spreading over the whole width of the valley. The change in irrigation efficiency along the valleys is reflected in a sharp estimated drop of 70–90% in the floral biomass, causing the reduction of the range value by 83–99%. During the monitoring time interval (1990–2001), the linear gully retreat in the study area ranged between 12.3 and 250 m an average rate of 1.12–22.7 m year− 1 for each gully head. The process is accompanied by erosion of soil, which has high agricultural and range value. The total soil losses in these sites ranged between 800 and 9000 m3 at an average rate of 81–818 m3 year− 1 for each gully head, which is equivalent to 121–1227 Mg year− 1. During the monitoring period, approximately 0.11–0.87 ha of land lost its agricultural and range value in each basin under study, at an average rate of 0.01–0.079 ha year− 1. Since the Byzantine period (1400 BP), approximately 6.5 ha, which is 10% of the land that had high agricultural and range value in the Zipporim valley, lost its value due to gully erosion. No recovery effects of the gully channels were found in the nearby region. The soil erosion is generated by a long-term natural dynamic change in the soil / rock ratio evolving within the drainage basins through time since the termination of the last glacial phase. The loessic sediments, originally deposited within the drainage basins during the late Pleistocene glacial stage, are being removed under the present Holocene climate in several erosion stages. This ongoing phenomenon is causing degradation of soil and biomass and is severely reducing the agricultural and range potential of the region. These parameters indicate that an ongoing process of desertification is active in the arid environment of the Negev Highlands, and is advancing in proportion to the headcut retreat rates in the region. The soil erosion and headcut retreat have been active in the Negev Highlands for the last few millennia. If these processes continue in the future, the Negev Highlands region will lose its agricultural potential within a few millennia. However, the fact that the ancient inhabitants of the region implemented successful long-term land conservation techniques already 3000 years ago, implies that a sustainable land management policy can be adapted to the Negev Highlands, as well as to other semi-arid regions in the Middle East.  相似文献

40Ar/39Ar dating of fine-grained alunite that formed during cave genesis provides ages of formation for the Big Room level of Carlsbad Cavern [4.0 to 3.9 million years ago (Ma)], the upper level of Lechuguilla Cave (6.0 to 5.7 Ma), and three other hypogene caves (11.3 to 6.0 Ma) in the Guadalupe Mountains of New Mexico. Alunite ages increase and are strongly correlative with cave elevations, which indicates an 1100-meter decline in the water table, apparently related to tectonic uplift and tilting, from 11.3 Ma to the present. 40Ar/39Ar dating studies of the hypogene caves have the potential to help resolve late Cenozoic climatic, speleologic, and tectonic questions.  相似文献
