Sulphur‐containing amino acids (SAA) are essential and usually the first limiting amino acids for growth, milk and wool production. The keratin fibre that grows from epidermal tissue is rich in SAA. The rate of fibre growth and its S content are influenced by the availability of SAA. Betaine is a dietary source for a labile methyl group and actively participates in methionine metabolism by donating methyl groups for the remethylation of homocysteine to methionine. Ruminants are capable of synthesizing SAA from inorganic S sources, and most bacteria in the rumen can use inorganic S to meet their requirements for growth. The objective of this study was to examine whether betaine and an inorganic sulphur supplement could provide methyl groups and sulphur amino acids in a way that growth performance and wool production of ewes and lambs are improved. Treatments performed included betaine supplementation, sulphate supplementation and betaine plus sulphate supplementation with five replications for each treatment. The dry matter intake of the ewes was affected by betaine plus sulphate supplementation (p < 0.05). In the ewes, betaine plus sulphate supplementation increased (p < 0.05) the wool growth rate, wool yield, staple length and wool sulphur concentration, while decreasing wool wax and wool yellowness (p < 0.05). In the lambs, wool growth rate, wool yield, fibre diameter, staple length, staple strength, wool sulphur concentration, wool wax and fibre percentage did not differ (p > 0.05) between treatments. In the ewes, plasma methionine concentration increased (p < 0.05) with betaine plus sulphate treatment. No corresponding difference (p > 0.05) was observed in plasma methionine concentration in the lambs. It can be concluded that betaine plus sulphate supplementation has the potential to change wool characteristics in the ewes, while these compounds were without any effect on growth and wool production of the lambs. Combining the two supplements was advantageous.  相似文献

Safflower seed has the highest concentration of linoleic acid among 80 oilseeds but little information exists on the effective use of SS for lactation cows. It was hypothesised that a diet supplemented with an Iranian SS variety (IL-111) in combination with fish oil (FO) would result in higher concentrations of trans-18:1 (including vaccenic acid) and conjugated linoleic acids in milk fat than feeding an unsupplemented control diet. Our objective was to determine the effects of feeding diets containing: (i) Control: (C); (ii) 25 g of roasted SS IL-111 (RSS); (iii) 20 g FO and (iv) 25 g RSS + 10 g FO (RSS + FO) per kilogram of dietary DM on feed intake, ruminal fermentation, milk production and fatty acid profile. Eight multiparous Holstein cows were used in a replicated 4 × 4 Latin square design study. The experiment had four periods of 21 days. Milk Fat percentage was lower (p < 0.01) with FO supplementation and averaged 19.0 and 21.5 g/kg milk with FO and RSS + FO compared with 30.3 and 32.5 g/kg with C and RSS. Feed intake also was lower (p < 0.01) with FO vs. C (23.1 vs. 24.5 kg/day) but feeding RSS resulted in greater feed intake compared with other treatments (26 kg/day). Despite lower feed intake with FO, milk production did not change from controls but feeding RSS + FO resulted in greater milk yield than controls (42.6 vs. 39.3 kg/day). Ruminal pH was greater (p < 0.01) in cows fed FO than other treatments. Supplemental FO alone or in combination with RSS resulted in dramatic increases (p < 0.01) in c9,t11-18:2 in milk fat (12.7 and 13.2 g/day vs. 5.8 and 7.02 with C and RSS). It was surprising to note that 25 g/kg RSS can improve feed intake.  相似文献

Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are soil bacteria that are able to colonize rhizosphere and to enhance plant growth by means of a wide variety of mechanisms. In the present study, Myristica yunnanensis and Stenotrophomonas chelatiphaga strains were recognized as new records in Iran flora. According to the results, these strains significantly affected plants’ zinc and phosphorous contents which could be due to the production of phytosiderophore. Siderophore-producing bacteria increased canola zinc (Zn) content as strategy-I plant, while in maize, it can be said that probably the effect of phytosiderophore produced by plant on increasing root and shoot Zn content was more than siderophore produced by bacteria. These isolates could be used as bio-input for improving the plant productivity as a substitute to chemical fertilizers and also to correct the nutrient deficiencies in canola and maize for sustainable agriculture.  相似文献

The present work was carried out to study the potential of bacteria isolated from the seeds of rice plant for the biocontrol of five rice pathogenic fungi. Eleven endophytic bacteria isolated from rice seeds were evaluated for their antagonistic potential. Of five pathogens studied, only the growth of Magnaporthe grisea was inhibited by one bacterial isolate in an in vitro dual culture assay. Based on 16S rDNA sequence analysis, and biochemical and morphological characteristics, this strain was closely related to Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. We named this new isolate to be S. maltophilia SEN1 (seed endophyte). This isolate was further tested for the production of volatile and diffusible antibiotics against M. grisea, for plant growth-promoting (PGP) traits and colonization of some rice cultivars. In addition, S. maltophilia SEN1 was tested for its ability to promote plant growth and reduce the incidence of rice blast disease under greenhouse conditions. When applied to the soil, this isolate increased seedling growth and suppressed blast disease in plants of three studied cultivars. This study also showed this isolate could colonize the root interior of other rice cultivars. This study indicates that the S. maltophilia isolate studied has an excellent potential to be used as biocontrol agents of M. grisea or biofertilizer under in vitro and in vivo conditions.  相似文献

A greenhouse pot experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of application of coal gangue (CG) at different rates (0, 5, 10, 20, and 50%) and inoculation with two arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi Glomus intraradices and Glomus mosseae, as mediating plant adaptation to soil amended with CG, on the nutrient content of forage maize. The results showed CG amendment at all levels and both AM fungi significantly improved the nutrient content of the plant as compared to control. In general, the highest shoot dry weight and nutrient phosphorus, iron, and zinc (P, Fe, and Zn) were obtained with 10% CG and G. intraradice treatments, which were 49.68, 30.49, 16.72, and 75.71% higher than those of the control plants, respectively. Therefore, 10% dose of CG may be considered as a suitable dose for amendment in the corn cultivation bed in terms of providing nutrient contents for this plant as well as AM fungi root colonization.  相似文献

In the present study, 100 bacterial strains were isolated from the soil and tested for siderophore producing ability. Among siderophore producing bacteria, three superior isolates with the highest level of siderophore (F13, F58 and F66) selected for further study. Production of lecithinase, arginine dehydrolase, catalase, oxidase, hydrogen cyanide, indole acetic acid, solubilization of phosphate, gelatin hydrolysis, oxidative/fermentative, motility and gram staining by these strains was evaluated. In greenhouse experiment, the ability of selected isolates in solubilizing insoluble iron-containing compounds was examined at three moisture levels (0.45–0.6, 0.6–0.7 and 0.7–0.85 field capacity). Results showed that isolates F13 and F66 have greatest effects on chlorophyll amount and shoot dry weight compared to isolate F58. On average, iron concentration of sunflower in the presence of bacteria was 2.85-fold more than control, while it was 1.88-fold for roots. In addition, bacterial treatments enhanced resistance to water stress in sunflower. Based on biochemical tests and by comparison of 16S rRNA sequences, the F13, F58 and F66 isolates were closely related to Pseudomonas spp., Enterobacter spp. and Bacillus Sporothernodurans, respectively.  相似文献

Our objective was to study the relationships between colostral somatic cell counts (SCC, a criterion for mastitis severity at parturition) and early calf growth, blood indicators of immunity, and pre‐weaning faecal and health states. Sixty‐nine Holstein cows were assigned to three groups of greater (n = 21, 5051 × 103), medium (n = 38, 2138 × 103) and lower (n = 10, 960 × 103) colostral SCC (per ml) in a completely randomized design. Calves received 2 l of colostrum on day 1, and jugular blood was sampled at birth, at 3 h after the first colostrum feeding and at 42 days of age for immunoglobulin G (IgG) measurements. Calves were fed transition milk from their dams until 3 days of age and whole milk from 4 to 60 days of age twice daily at 10% of body weight. Health status and faecal physical scores were recorded daily for 42 days. Increased colostral SCC was associated with increased serum IgG at parturition. Colostral pH increased and fat percentage decreased linearly with the rising SCC. Feeding colostrum with greater SCC was associated with reduced serum IgG concentrations at 3 h after first colostrum feeding, greater incidences of diarrhoea and compromised health status during the first 42 days of age, and reduced weaning weight gain, but had no effects on calf body length and withers height. Colostral volume and percentages of protein, lactose, solids‐non‐fat, total solids and IgG were comparable among groups. Results suggest a role for SCC, as an indicator of mastitis and colostral health quality, in affecting calf health. As a result of the novelty of calf health dependence on colostral SCC found, future studies to further characterize such relationships and to uncover or rule out possible mediators are required before colostral SCC could be recommended for routine on‐farm use in managing dry cow and calf production.  相似文献

Habrobracon hebetor Say is an ectoparasitoid that has been used as a control agent of various lepidopteran pests. Temperature-dependent life table and thermal characteristics of H. hebetor are important in understanding the dynamics of host–parasitoid relationships and for optimizing biocontrol programmes. The influence of five constant temperatures (15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 °C) on the biology of H. hebetor when parasitizing Anagasta kuehniella Zeller was studied. The survival rate of immature stages increased from 16.67% to 83.81% as temperature increased from 15 to 30 °C and then decreased at 35 °C. Total development time ranged from 45.70 days at 15 °C to 7.10 days at 35 °C. The lower temperature threshold for immature stages varied slightly around a value of 11–12 °C. The net reproductive rate (R0) values were significantly different among temperatures and the highest value was found at 30 °C (85.10). The high survival rate and net reproductive rate combined with a relatively short generation time at 30 °C resulted in the intrinsic rate of increase (rm) being highest (0.312 d?1) at this temperature. Considering the acquired results, the temperature range between 25 and 30 °C was optimal for H. hebetor.  相似文献

Gram-positive bacteria isolated from the rhizosphere and inside the roots of rice were characterized for plant growth promoting (PGP) traits and antifungal activity against some rice plant pathogenic fungi of rice. The results showed the endophytic and rhizosphere isolates had different PGP traits and antifungal activity. Only one rhizosphere isolate and one endophytic isolate showed highly inhibitory effects against the mycelial growth of all fungal rice pathogens tested in this study. The best bacterial isolates, based on multiple PGP traits and inhibitory effects against the mycelial growth of all fungal rice pathogens, were identified. Based on biochemical tests and by comparison of 16S rDNA sequences, the endophytic isolate REN3 and the rhizosphere isolate REN4 were closely related to Bacillus cereus and Bacillus mojavensis respectively. The broad-spectrum antifungal strains, the REN3 and REN4 isolates analyzed here, exert multiple PGP and antagonistic activity and represent an excellent option to be used as either potent bio-promoting or bio-control agents in rice under in vitro conditions. This application may help to minimize dependence on pesticides, which have adverse effects on the environment, finally leading to have sustainable environments. In conclusion, the results of antifungal activity showed rice harbors bacteria with a good potential in biocontrol of rice fungal pathogens.  相似文献
