The metabolism of R-20458 [(E)-6,7-epoxy-1-(4-ethylphenoxy)-3,7-dimethyl-2-octene] by rat hepatocytes has been analyzed and compared with that of juvenile hormone I [methyl-(E,E)-cis-10,11-epoxy-7-ethyl-3,11-dimethyl-2,6-tridecadienoate] under identical conditions. The metabolism of R-20458 is characterized by the predominance of NADPH-dependent cytochrome P-450 and epoxide hydrolase reactions; whereas, JH I is metabolized mainly by carboxylesterase, epoxide hydrolase, and glutathione S-transferases. The metabolites of R-20458 have been shown to correspond to (E)-6,7-epoxy-1-(4-hydroxyethylphenoxy)-3,7-dimethyl-2-octene; (E)-6,7-epoxy-1-(4-acetylphenoxy)-3,7-dimethyl-2-octene; (E)-6,7-dihydroxy-1-(4-ethylphenoxy)-3,7-dimethyl-2-octene; and, (E)-6,7-dihydroxy-1-(4-acetylphenoxy)-3,7-dimethyl-2-octene. The production of the α-hydroxyethyl, p-acetylphenoxy, and acetylphenoxy-6,7-diol metabolites is markedly inhibited by SKF 525-A. No dramatic effects are produced by diethylmaleate and 1,2-epoxy-3,3,3-trichloropropane. 相似文献

Through a series of workshops with the stakeholders including nursery operators, tree farmers, staff of the Department of
Environment and Natural Resources, local government units and the academe, a forestry seedling nursery accreditation policy
was developed. The resulting policy was subsequently implemented by the municipal government of Palompon, Leyte. The accreditation
policy encouraged nursery operators to follow smallholder-based best management practices for tree nurseries. Implementation
of the nursery accreditation policy improved farmers’ knowledge and skills in the production of high quality seedlings, encouraged
adoption of BMP for forest nurseries, provided additional source of income for the farmers, enabled members of the groups
operating the communal nursery to forge closer relationship with each other, encouraged utilization of farmers’ free time
in productive activities, developed farmers’ confidence in producing high quality planting materials, and gained for the farmers
favourable attention from various organizations and groups. The Bennett’s hierarchy of project outcomes showed that the implementation
of accreditation scheme achieved high levels of outcomes, indicating that it led to substantial improvements in the lives

The metabolism of α-pinene, a major monoterpene in Pinus spp. in the United States, has been examined utilizing microsomal fractions from larval and adult Dendroctonus terebrans and rat liver. Under hydroxylating conditions, both insect and rat liver microsomes convert α-pinene into α-pinene oxide and several other undentified products. α-Pinene oxide was identified by mass spectrometry. α-Pinene is an inducer of cytochrome P-450 in rat liver microsomes and its effect on the pattern of α-pinene metabolism is very similar to β-naphthoflavone. No increase in cytochrome P-450 was observed when insects were treated with α-pinene; however, the quantity of α-pinene metabolic products was increased by α-pinene pretreatment. The role of cytochrome P-450 linked reactions in the production of insect pheromones via the α-pinene epoxide intermediate is discussed. 相似文献

Intracerebroventricular administration of dynorphin produced potent and long-lasting effects on motor function and the electroencephalogram in rats. In addition, local iontophoretic or pressure ejection of dynorphin consistently inhibited hippocampal unit activity. None of these effects were significantly affected by naloxone even at high doses. Moreover, a fragment of dynorphin that failed to displace any of a number of tritiated narcotics from rat brain homogenates produced similar effects on these physiological measures in vivo. On the basis of a variety of criteria for "opiate action," the results suggest that a second biologically active site within the dynorphin sequence is capable of quite potent but nonopiate effects. 相似文献

Celiac disease is an enteropathy caused by an abnormal immune response to cereal gluten proteins (gliadin). To unravel the possible role of the interactions between gliadin peptides and specific intestinal bacteria, the response of intestinal epithelial (Caco-2) cells to gliadin subjected to gastrointestinal digestion in the presence or absence of Bifidobacterium longum CECT 7347 has been studied. Changes in the proteome of Caco-2 cells were determined by 2DE and MALDI-TOF. Gliadins digested without B. longum altered the expression of a higher number of proteins than in the presence of the bacterium (21 versus 9), and these proteins were involved in disorganization of cell cytoskeleton, inflammation, and apoptosis. Gliadins digested in the presence of the bacterium influenced the production of proteins involved in calcium homeostasis and cell survival and function. Therefore, B. longum CECT 7347 might ameliorate gliadin toxicity and modify the responses of intestinal epithelial cells to the gliadin challenge. 相似文献

The strawberry phyllody is considered a reversion of floral reproductive organs, such as achenes in vegetative structures, which can be infectious and non-infectious. The objective of this research was to determine the regional distribution and incidence of phyllody in two strawberry growing areas in Michoacan, Mexico and to determine whether these symptoms are associated with the presence of phytoplasmas. The study comprised 51 strawberry plots distributed in the municipalities of Zamora, Jacona, Tangancícuaro, Chilchota and Maravatío, during the production season, 2014–2015. Phyllody incidence was estimated in 40 plants per plot (five sampling points, eight plants each) distributed approximately equidistant in a zig-zag scheme. Twenty-eight of these samples were used to run a nested PCR protocol for phytoplasma detection; primers P1/P7 were used to amplify a fragment of approximately 1800 bp, and primers P1A/ 16S SR were used to amplify a fragment of approximately 1500 bp, in the first and second reactions, respectively. The strawberry phyllody was found widely distributed with incidence levels up to 35 %. These symptoms were associated with the presence of Mexican Periwinkle Virescence Phytoplasma (MPV). This report is the first to describe this phytoplasma in strawberry in Mexico in the municipalities of Zamora, Jacona, Tangancícuaro, Chilchota and Maravatio in the state of Michoacan. The results will be used to design strategies for managing the disease in commercial nurseries and commercial plantings of strawberry. 相似文献

We examined the potential growth of clonal Eucalyptus plantations at eight locations across a 1000+ km gradient in Brazil by manipulating the supplies of nutrients and water, and altering the uniformity of tree sizes within plots. With no fertilization or irrigation, mean annual increments of stem wood were about 28% lower (16.2 Mg ha−1 yr−1, about 33 m3 ha−1 yr−1) than yields achieved with current operational rates of fertilization (22.6 Mg ha−1 yr−1, about 46 m3 ha−1 yr−1). Fertilization beyond current operational rates did not increase growth, whereas irrigation raised growth by about 30% (to 30.6 Mg ha−1 yr−1, about 62 m3 ha−1 yr−1). The potential biological productivity (current annual increment) of the plantations was about one-third greater than these values, if based only on the period after achieving full canopies. The biological potential productivity was even greater if based only on the full-canopy period during the wet season, indicating that the maximum biological productivity across the sites (with irrigation, during the wet season) would be about 42 Mg ha−1 yr−1 (83 m3 ha−1 yr−1). Stands with uniform structure (trees in plots planted in a single day) showed 13% greater growth than stands with higher heterogeneity of tree sizes (owing to a staggered planting time of up to 80 days). Higher water supply increased growth and also delayed by about 1 year the point where current annual increment and mean annual increment intersected, indicating opportunities for lengthening rotations for more productive treatments as well as the influence of year-to-year climate variations on optimal rotations periods. The growth response to treatments after canopy closure (mid-rotation) related well with full-rotation responses, offering an early opportunity for estimating whole-rotation yields. These results underscore the importance of resource supply, the efficiency of resource use, and stand uniformity in setting the bounds for productivity, and provide a baseline for evaluating the productivity achieved in operational plantations. The BEPP Project showed that water supply is the key resource determining levels of plantation productivity in Brazil. Future collaboration between scientists working on silviculture and genetics should lead to new insights on the mechanisms connecting water and growth, leading to improved matching of sites, clones, and silviculture. 相似文献

Scientists have made significant progress in understanding and unraveling several aspects of double‐stranded RNA (dsRNA)‐mediated gene silencing during the last two decades. Now that the RNA interference (RNAi) mechanism is well understood, it is time to consider how to apply the acquired knowledge to agriculture and crop protection. Some RNAi‐based products are already available for farmers and more are expected to reach the market soon. Tailor‐made dsRNA as an active ingredient for biopesticide formulations is considered a raw material that can be used for diverse purposes, from pest control and bee protection against viruses to pesticide resistance management. The RNAi mechanism works at the messenger RNA (mRNA) level, exploiting a sequence‐dependent mode of action, which makes it unique in potency and selectivity compared with conventional agrochemicals. Furthermore, the use of RNAi in crop protection can be achieved by employing plant‐incorporated protectants through plant transformation, but also by non‐transformative strategies such as the use of formulations of sprayable RNAs as direct control agents, resistance factor repressors or developmental disruptors. In this review, RNAi is presented in an agricultural context (discussing products that have been launched on the market or will soon be available), and we go beyond the classical presentation of successful examples of RNAi in pest‐insect control and comprehensively explore its potential for the control of plant pathogens, nematodes and mites, and to fight against diseases and parasites in beneficial insects. Moreover, we also discuss its use as a repressor for the management of pesticide‐resistant weeds and insects. Finally, this review reports on the advances in non‐transformative dsRNA delivery and the production costs of dsRNA, and discusses environmental considerations. © 2017 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献
