Anti-inflammatory effects of Houttuynia cordata supercritical extract (HSE) were investigated in a carrageenan-air pouch model. HSE (200 mg/kg, oral) suppressed exudation and albumin leakage, as well as inflammatory cell infiltration. Dexamethasone (2 mg/kg, i.p.) only decreased exudation and cell infiltration, while indomethacin (2 mg/kg, i.p.) reduced exudate volume and albumin content. HSE lowered tumor-necrosis factor (TNF)-α and nitric oxide (NO), as well as prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). Dexamethasone only reduced TNF-α and NO, while indomethacin decreased TNF-α and PGE2. The suppressive activity of HSE on NO and PGE2 production was confirmed in RAW 264.7. These results demonstrate that HSE exerts anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting both TNF-α-NO and cyclooxygenase II-PGE2 pathways.  相似文献

The diverse therapeutic feasibility of the sea urchin-derived naphthoquinone pigment, Echinochrome A (Ech A), has been studied. Simple and noninvasive administration routes should be explored, to obtain the feasibility. Although the therapeutic potential has been proven through several preclinical studies, the biosafety of orally administered Ech A and its direct influence on intestinal cells have not been evaluated. To estimate the bioavailability of Ech A as an oral administration drug, small intestinal and colonic epithelial organoids were developed from mice and humans. The morphology and cellular composition of intestinal organoids were evaluated after Ech A treatment. Ech A treatment significantly increased the expression of LGR5 (~2.38-fold change, p = 0.009) and MUC2 (~1.85-fold change, p = 0.08). Notably, in the presence of oxidative stress, Ech A attenuated oxidative stress up to 1.8-fold (p = 0.04), with a restored gene expression of LGR5 (~4.11-fold change, p = 0.0004), as well as an increased expression of Ly6a (~3.51-fold change, p = 0.005) and CLU (~2.5-fold change, p = 0.01), markers of revival stem cells. In conclusion, Ech A is harmless to intestinal tissues; rather, it promotes the maintenance and regeneration of the intestinal epithelium, suggesting possible beneficial effects on the intestine when used as an oral medication.  相似文献

Starch is often added to batters to improve the texture and appearance of fried food products. However, comparisons of commercially available starches in terms of batter characteristics are rare. In this study, various corn starches, native or modified, were mixed with wheat flour (20% dry solids basis), and the physical properties of the batters after deep-fat frying were examined. Native corn starches of different amylose contents (high-amylose, normal, and waxy) and chemically modified corn starches (oxidized and cross-linked) were tested. The batter was prepared by adding water to the starch-flour mixtures (42% solids) and deep-fat frying at 180°C for 30 sec. The texture of the fried batter was analyzed using a texture analyzer (TA) with a Kramer shear cell. The pasting viscosity profile of the starch-flour mixtures (7% solids in water) was also measured with a Rapid Visco Analyser. When the native corn starches of different amylose contents were compared, the crispness (peak number before breakage) and hardness (maximum peak force) measured using the instrument were positively correlated with the amylose content in starches but negatively correlated with the residual moisture content of the fried batters. The peak viscosity and breakdown in viscosity profiles of the starch-flour mixtures were also negatively correlated with crispness. The use of high-amylose corn starch was effective not only in increasing the crispness, but also in reducing the oil uptake. However, the fried batter containing high-amylose starch was denser and harder than the batter containing normal starch. Among the modified starches tested, oxidized (0.4% active Cl2) and cross-linked (4% 99:1 mixture of STMP and STPP) starches showed improvements in the overall properties of the fried batters. A 5 year-old, intact female Yorkshire terrier was referred for dysuria and dyschezia. The radiographic and ultrasound examination showed a round shaped mass caudal to the urinary bladder that contained anechoic fluid within the thin walls. During surgery, the cyst was noted to be attached to the outer wall of the vagina, not connected to the vaginal lumen. Cystic fluid was removed and the cystic wall was resected. Then the remaining cystic wall was omentalized to prevent a recurrence.Histological examination confirmed that the cyst was of Wolffian duct origin. In this case, a large Gartner duct cyst causing urological problems was diagnosed and removed by surgical resection.  相似文献

The short petiole trait is valuable for the development of plant ideotype with high yield. Soybean breeding line, SS98206SP, showed extremely short petioles in greenhouse and field. In this study, the short petiole of two mutant lines, SS98206SP and D76-1609, were investigated to determine the genetic segregations. These two mutants were crossed with each other and with two normal petiole genotypes. Genetic analysis indicated that the short petioles in D76-1609 and SS98206SP were controlled by a single recessive gene, respectively. The short petiole gene in SS98206SP was non-allelic with lps, conferring short petiole in D76-1609. Two recessive genes showed complementary relationship having short petioles with recessive homozygote (LPS1-lps?lps?, lps1lps1LPS?-, lps1lps1lps?lps?). Our data indicated that the short petioles in SS98206SP were controlled by a single recessive gene designated as lps3.  相似文献
