The effect of grazing on the above-ground primary production and water use of a fertilised annual pasture and of fertilised sown wheat was studied. Similar studies were made of the effect of cutting on sown wheat. Two simple models—one exponential, the other logistic, both based on the dry weight of the above-ground biomass—were used to describe the primary production in all treatments.The production of undisturbed pasture and undisturbed wheat was 6480 and 7080 kg DM/ha, respectively. Grazing had no significant effect on the total production of the pasture but reduced the DM yield of wheat by up to 32%. Cutting of the wheat reduced the yield by 56%. Water use was similar in all treatments of pasture and wheat and was not directly related to production. The predicted production by both models was similar to observation in the early part of the season but differed from observation in the later part. Possible reasons for the discrepancies are discussed.  相似文献

The concentrations of Hg, Cu, Pb, Cd, and Zn accumulated by regional macrophytes were investigated in three tropical wetlands in Colombia. The studied wetlands presented different degrees of metal contamination. Cu and Zn presented the highest concentrations in sediment. Metal accumulation by plants differed among species, sites, and tissues. Metals accumulated in macrophytes were mostly accumulated in root tissues, suggesting an exclusion strategy for metal tolerance. An exception was Hg, which was accumulated mainly in leaves. The ranges of mean metal concentrations were 0.035?C0.953 mg g?1 Hg, 6.5?C250.3 mg g?1 Cu, 0.059?C0.245 mg g?1 Pb, 0.004?C0.066 mg g?1 Cd, and 31.8?363.1 mg g?1 Zn in roots and 0.033?C0.888 mg g?1 Hg, 2.2?C70.7 mg g?1 Cu, 0.005?C0.086 mg g?1 Pb, 0.001?C0.03 mg g?1 Cd, and 12.6?C140.4 mg g?1 Zn in leaves. The scarce correlations registered between metal concentration in sediment and plant tissues indicate that metal concentrations in plants depend on several factors rather than on sediment concentration only. However, when Cu and Zn sediment concentrations increased, these metal concentrations in tissues also increased in Eichhornia crassipes, Ludwigia helminthorriza, and Polygonum punctatum. These species could be proposed as Cu and Zn phytoremediators. Even though macrophytes are important metal accumulators in wetlands, sediment is the main metal compartment due to the fact that its total mass is greater than the corresponding plant biomass in a given area.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to determine the non‐specific aerobic and anaerobic bacterial causes of endometritis causing repeat breeding of cycling Iraqi buffalo cows at Nineveh province, validate diagnostic criteria for endometritis and to evaluate the treatment efficiency of using systemic or intra‐uterine infusion of antibiotics for the treatment of endometritis. Data were collected from 60 buffalo cows with history of repeat breeding in different herds. All buffaloes were subjected to detailed clinical examination including external inspection, vaginoscopy and transrectal palpation of the cervix, uterus and ovaries. Swabs for bacteriology and biopsies for histopathology were collected from the uterine lumen from each cow. Character, odour and estimation of polymorphonuclear cells (PMN) of the vaginal mucus were scored. Blood samples were collected from cows for creatine kinase (CK) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) measurement. Treatment conducted using oxytetracycline with tylosin in local intrauterine infusion or systemically with hormonal treatment. The most pre‐disposing factor for uterine infection was retained placenta (13.3%). The most prevalent bacteria in uterine lumen were E. coli (23%), Archanobacterium pyogenes (13%) and Staphylococcus aureus (10%) were mostly isolated from buffaloes with repeat breeding. Vaginal mucus character score was associated with the bacterial growth density score. The difference in PMN was highly significant (p < 0.01) in animals with repeat breeding than control groups. In addition, PMNs was significantly (p < 0.01) correlated r = 0.894 with the character of vaginal discharge. High level of PMNs observed in buffaloes infected with A. pyogenes. Buffalo cows with endometritis had higher CK (321.47 ± 39.06 vs 162.01 ± 16.41 U/l) and AST (133.93 ± 12.43 vs 97.01 ± 6.86 U/l) activities (p < 0.05) than control‐heifers, but no significant difference was observed between buffalo cows with endometritis in CK (321.47 ± 39.06 vs 208.33 ± 5.84) and AST (133.93 ± 12.43 vs 156.17 ± 9.65) activities than control‐pluriparious. It could be concluded that A. pyogenes was the only non‐specific uterine pathogen directly associated with severe endometrial lesions. Vaginoscopy examination combined with palpation of uterus increase the accuracy of diagnosing endometritis and cytogenic examination of uterine discharge is more reliable method of establishing the presence or absence of uterine inflammation in buffalo cows. Animals with repeat breeding (endometritis) showed clinical cure and improved pregnancy in all treatment groups with no significant difference. The use of oestradiol in repeat breeder cases has no effect in improving neither clinical cure rate nor pregnancy rate.  相似文献

Sudan is the fourth largest exporter of groundnuts in the world, yet little is known concerning the plant-rhizobial symbiosis. A study was made on the abundance of groundnut-nodulating rhizobia in the soils of Sudan as related to soil properties and the duration since groundnuts were last planted. Also, physiological, serological and nitrogen-fixing characteristics of Sudanese rhizobia are reported. All but one of 32 sites contained more than 300 rhizobia g?1 soil capable of forming nodules on siratro (Macroptilium atropurpureum). Several of these soils had never been planted to groundnut. A correlation matrix indicated no relationship was present between soil rhizobial populations and any of the measured soil properties, or between soil rhizobial populations and the time since groundnuts were last planted in the rotation. Individual isolates of Rhizobium from six legumes: groundnut (Arachis hypogaea), mung bean (Vigna radiata), lubia (Dolichos lablab), cowpea (Vigna unguiculata), pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan) and bambara groundnut (Voandzeia subterranea) were obtained from four locations in Sudan. All isolates were able to nodulate each of the six legumes when grown in sterile vermiculite. The isolates grew in 0.1% NaCl-amended media, but growth was variable in 2.0% amended media. Most isolates grew after exposure to moist heat for 15 min at 50°C. Optimum pH for growth was, in general, between pH 6 and 8. Agglutination reactions indicated isolates from groundnuts, as well as isolates from other legumes, belonged to several serological groupings. Some isolates formed a large number of nodules on a Sudanese groundnut cultivar, whereas other isolates formed only few nodules.  相似文献

The growth, yield and fruit quality of 7-year-old trees of “Sahahmiveh” pear grafted on six rootstocks, including four quinces (QA, QB, QC, and PQBA29) and an Iranian native pear “Konjoni,” and a wild-type European pear (Pyrus communis L.), were evaluated in a completely randomized design trial with three replications at the Agricultural Research Center of Kabutarabad, Isfahan, Iran in 2 years (2013 and 2014). Yield and fruit weight of all rootstocks were markedly enhanced in the second year of the experiment. Considering both fruit yield and quality, “Sahahmiveh” scions on PQBA29 had the most suitable performance in both years. “Sahahmiveh”-PQBA29 combination exhibited the largest leaf dimensions (5.03?cm width and 7.27?cm length), fruit size values (6.3?cm width and 9.3?cm length), fruit weight (205?g per fruit) the highest yield (41.3?kg per tree), and acceptable fruit internal quality (0.4% titratable acidity and 17.4°brix total soluble solid) in 2014. The highest yield followed by QA (39.6?kg per tree) without significant differences compared to PQBA29. However, “Sahahmiveh”-QA fruit weight (189?g per fruit) and width (5.9?cm) values were markedly less than that of “Sahahmiveh”-PQBA29 in 2014. In conclusion, “Shahmiveh” pear cultivar grafted on PQBA29 exhibited more suitable fruit yield and quality values compared to the other rootstocks and, thus, would be the best rootstock for “Sahahmiveh” pear in Isfahan.  相似文献

The variation of soybean seed protein content has been investigated in performance trials of maturity group 000 to I genotypes at different locations in the eastern part of Austria between 1992 and 1994. In all experiments evaluated, significant portions of spatial variation were identified which affected seed protein content in the range of ?25 to +30 g/kg. Lattice and neighbour analysis were more efficient than the randomized complete block design in reducing error variance in most experiments. Neighbour analysis was superior to the lattice design when soil trends were changing over short distances or in both longitudinal and latitudinal directions. In most instances, neighbour analysis based on two or three neighbouring plots at each side of a test plot was more efficient than an analysis using only the nearest neighbours. Residuals derived from neighbour analysis were also used to visualize spatial heterogeneity, and clear trends of protein content were identified for particular experimental sites. The ranking of genetic entries was considerably biased by spatial variations, which would have reduced the efficiency of selection for high protein content if genotype performance was not adjusted for field variation.  相似文献

The colonizing and proliferating abilities of enterotoxigenic acapsular or K99- mutants of bovine enteropathogenic Escherichia coli strains were compared with those of their capsulated and K99+ parent strains in the small intestine of infected colostrum-fed calves. Calves infected with the enteropathogenic E. coli parent strains developed profuse diarrhea and severe dehydration. None of the calves which received the acapsular mutant developed diarrhea and one of three calves inoculated with the K99- enterotoxigenic mutant developed moderate diarrhea. The parent enteropathogenic E. coli strains colonized the middle and lower small intestine; in these areas a layer of specific immunofluorescence against the enteropathogenic E. coli covered most villi and 80% of the organisms were associated with the intestinal wall. The acapsular mutant strain failed to colonize the small intestine and fluorescent bacteria were not observed in any area of the small intestine. The K99- mutant proliferated to a lesser extent than did the K99+ parent strain in all areas of the small intestine but moderately colonized the lower small intestine where fluorescent bacteria were observed to cover parts of the intestinal villi.  相似文献

The objectives of the present study were to determine the relationship between bacteriological findings, clinical signs and histopathological changes in postpartum metritis. Evaluation of the treatment efficiency of using systemic or intra‐uterine infusion of antibiotics with some hormonal preparations for the treatment of postpartum metritis. Data were collected from 50 buffalo cows with history of calving of more than 1 month. All buffaloes were subjected to detailed clinical examination including external inspection, vaginoscopy and transrectal palpation of the cervix, uterus and ovaries. Swabs for bacteriology and biopsies for histopathology were collected from uterine lumen from each buffalo included in the present study. Bacteria identified using API systems following aerobic and anaerobic cultures. Vaginal mucus scored for character, odour and estimation of polymorphonuclear cells (PMNs). Treatment conducted using oxytetracycline in local intrauterine infusion or systemically with hormonal treatment including prostaglandinF2α (PGF2α) and oestradiol benzoate. Results revealed that the most predisposing factor for postpartum uterine infection was retained placenta and toxic puerperal metritis. The most prevalent bacteria in uterine lumen were Escherichia coli, Archanobacterium pyogenes, Bacteroides fragilis and Fusobacterium necrophorum the most prevalent bacteria in buffaloes with postpartum metritis. A. pyogenes and F. necrophorum were an important pathogens causing severe uterine inflammation as found in histopathological examinations. Buffaloes with postpartum metritis showed good clinical cure when oxytetracycline injected systemically with PGF2α. Intrauterine infusion of oxytetracycline had no advantage for the treatment of uterine infection in buffalo cows with postpartum metritis. PGF2α improved clinical cure of buffaloes with postpartum metritis.  相似文献

Sensitivity to the new carboxylic acid amide (CAA) fungicide mandipropamid (MPD) in Phytophthora infestans was measured for isolates collected between 1989 and 2002 in Israel prior to the commercial use of MPD (baseline sensitivity, 44 isolates), and from MPD-treated (25 isolates) and untreated fields (215 isolates) in nine European countries and Israel between 2001 and 2005. All isolates were sensitive to MPD, with EC50 values ranging between 0·02 and 2·98  µ g mL−1. Plastic-tunnel (UK), shade-house (Israel) and field experiments (Israel) conducted during 2001–05 showed that enforced selection pressure, applied preventively or curatively, imposed by repeated sublethal (5  µ g mL−1) or excessive (500–1000  µ g mL−1) doses of MPD on mixed isolates of P. infestans produced no isolates resistant to the compound. The results of this study indicate that the probability of a buildup of resistant sub-populations of P. infestans to mandipropamid in the field is low.  相似文献
